Druid + Animal Companion = Fighter? Two heads are considered better than one in every universe. Real life too.

At level 1 (well they have 2 HD), it has potential to have more AC than the fighter. Same Attack bonus. Better Spot/Listen.

Potential is word because some Druids don't use their animal companion as warriors: instead as roleplay (bird can't fight well, but hey whatever floats the Druids boat).

Maybe the druid will forget to buy the animal Barding: Even Leather barding is cheap for +2 AC.

Plus, remember: the Animal Companion comes with a Druid for free. Plus, the Animal doesn't get Exp so you don't lose it by having these 2. Instead as the Druid becomes stronger so does the Animal Companion.

Honestly though when you have a Druid walking around as a T-Rex casting buff spells (that also affect their animal companion) with an animal companion Raptor and gets to start off combats with high level spells before they run in to attack... its the combination of alot of factors that make the Druid better.

09-10-07, 03:29 PM It's not just the animal companion, it's the massive combinations. I'd say the animal companion itself usually does about 50% of what a fighter could do, the druid wildshapes, he's now is say 80% as good as a fighter in combat. So now the druid has 130% of a fighter's capability, and that's before you factor in say 50% of a wizards spellcasting and 40% of a cleric's healing potential.

(these %ages are all random made up estimates off the top of my head not to be considered exact by any means)

09-10-07, 05:16 PM The druid's animal companion alone is better than the fighter. Throw good saves, good BAB, full spellcasting and Wild Shape along with that, and there you go.
