I have a dilemna that maybe you guys can help. In a current campaign I am in I have a 2nd lvl elven ranger/fighter that uses a longbow and 2 short swords. In the our 1st adventurer our DM gives the fightr/thief a dual crossbow from Arms & Armor 3.5. I believe he misread the description, because he now allows the PC to fire at 2 different targets in a round, basically getting 2 attacks, while the rest of the party gets 1 attack. The DM also allows that the PC takes no penalties. My character has to use a feat or chose that ranger path just to get rapid shot and still take -2 to each attack.

Now I believe that you only get to shoot both bolts at 1 defender at a -1 penalty or 1 bolt at no penalty.

Am I right?

03-13-05, 05:01 PM In Arms and Equip there isnt anything that is a dual crossbow... the closest is an elven double bow. In this case:

1) they have to go to the same target
2) they are at a -2 penalty
3) it takes a move action to nock the second arrow
and 4) they need an exotic weapon proficiency feat to use it

Beyond that, the only crossbow in arms and equipment is the Great Crossbow, which just does more damage.

Just let your DM know... but remember that its still up to him even if it seems unfair.

03-14-05, 10:56 PM Firstly, Arms & Armor is not The Arms & Equipment Guide. It's a 3rd party book (green ronin, I think?), best thing to do is check out the publisher's site for info, as most folks around here won't know what exactly your discussing.

Secondly, a lot of 3rd party stuff is dysfunctionally unbalanced, so what you're describing wouldn't surprise me one iota.
