| McShannon11-06-06, 08:20 AM | I need ideas and opinions to HELP my DM let me try playing as these two characters. Note I know it is going to be more powerful then any one character, again I am explaining it as two. Ok now for the Idea, it is one body (a fighter) with two in the head continually having internal dialog (they get along well this is not a power struggle story) the other in the head is a spell caster. They will get one action per round, one set of HP (the fighters). Any spells will need to be cast still because the fiscal movement is the fighters (speaking is one voice and is rotated as wanted) Looking here for some helpful ideas on anything special you would do, for him/them. Ok yes he is more powerful then one character, but two I do not think, at least not automatically. Please responded with information to Help! Thank you! P.S. I do not want it to be consider one character multiclassed, or any thing else like that. (note I know and am sorry placing this in multiple threads, I was not sure would get the response I want, and I want it quick) |

Gestalt characters may not be quite as powerful as two separate characters, but they're definitely more powerful than any normal character, and they throw the (already shaky) CR system straight out the window. This as a roleplay quirk in a fully gestalt game, though, could be relatively cool. |
| Noria Merfolk Mage11-06-06, 12:52 PM | I've always wondered if it would be possible to do a two-headed giant type character, with 2 players controlling one body. But 2 bodies (or minds) for one player won't work outside of gestalt. |
| Reversefigure411-06-06, 03:14 PM | Well, you have a couple of options: 1. Gestalt, with his personality being the split one. Haven't seen that in a gestalt yet. Be warned: for this to work you need to be playing a gestalt game. Bringing a gestalt character into a non-G game is a BAD idea. 2. Multi-class between Fighter and a spellcaster. 3. Have no mechanical effects from it. The spellcaster who has been put into the Fighter's body has lost his spellcasting powers from it (this works best if it's a Sorceror, as you could claim his inate magical powers have stayed with his body. And who's controlling that now? Insta-plot hook). Alternatively, put the caster into a Fighter's body that doesn't have the necessary stats to actually cast! A Fighter with negative charisma or Int could be humourous, as the caster constantly rails and complains about the limitations of this stupid body. |
| albinomonkeyking11-06-06, 05:12 PM | Yeah, best you can get is by the rules buddy. I would say (speaking of concept) to go fighter/wizard and then multiclass, or start off as a class that already can, hexblade or duskblade. |
| Kapalen11-06-06, 05:34 PM | Play a duskblade, then rp their abilities as the two minds learning to work as one. |
| McShannon11-07-06, 11:03 PM | Right now we are think that, we are make some modification and limitation to both class and considering two character and giving him ECL + 2. By considering him two character (but in reality weeker) we are going with the theory of ECL +2 from the this quote from the DMs Guid "As A rule of thumb, doubling the number of foes adds 2 to the Encounter Level" |
| Shaggy_Shaggs11-08-06, 07:16 AM | Encounter Level != Effective Character Level. |
| Pathanus11-08-06, 06:00 PM | I don't think making up a new mechanic for 1 character will work well with the rest of your group. One guy getting the benefits of 2 classes (even with restrictions) and multiple actions per round probably won't work well if all the other PC's aren't doing the same type of thing. It sounds like you want to play a gish character (strong melee and strong caster ability character) and you don't need to create an elaborate system to do that. Check out this thread for ideas about powerful gish characters: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=150451 You can still roleplay a dual personality conflict with the character and not need extra actions to pull it off. edit: fixed some grammar and spelling, heh |
