In our group we frequently have the situation that the bear animal companion of the druid can't fit through the smaller tunnels or even regular corridor's (many are 5ft, versus the 10ft area the bear occupies).

Besides that, Larger creatures (large or even huge: our own or opponents) can't really maneuver that well in a typical dungeon. This is frustrating battles.

Do you have similar experiences?

Remember, a creature can squeeze into an area half its space and operate at a -4 to attack rolls and AC, plus movement costs double while squeezing.

Yeah, sometimes this comes up. If a huge creature lives in a dungeon where all the exits are 5' corridors, theres only four options in the player's minds.

1. Shapechanger (Size and/or form)
2. Massive escape artist. (DC 30 usually)
3. Transportive Magic (Teleport/Ethereal Jaunt)
4. DM being a tard and not thinking about in-game versimilitude.

Reduce Animal is an awesome spells that druids have access to to solve most of these problems. A colar of reduce animal isn't a bad idea either, or a wand. Designate an animal companion trick as "Use Colar", get it a colar of reduce (which should be moderately cheap) and you are good to go as long as combat occurs in rooms, and at least can move at full speed if it doesnt!

Just my two coppers.

This is why I don't run 'dungeons' per se. Unless you have somebody running the show like Halaster, they just don't make sense. So if I have an underground complex it is there for a reason, and the reason dictates how it is built and what lives there.

You know, saddly I can't find any size info on bears except how heavy they can get! Example a grizzly can weigh 300- 850 pounds. but haivng lived in British Coloumbia for a while and have seen some bears I can say they can get to be about the size of a family car.

( Som bears are much larger then others, such as the black bears, that are small compared to other bears.)

Last one: That's only in combat. A bear can walk through a 5-foot corridor without penalty. It's just his fighting capabilty that's reduced. I'd say a creature could even double-squeeze into something 1/4 his size, but with no possible combat.

I don't have any books with me: So you say a Huge creature (15ft) can squeeze trhough a 5ft corridor outside of combat?

What is the limit to this in normal movement?

What is the limit to this in combat?

Here's what the SRD says on that matter:

To squeeze through or into a space less than half your space’s width, you must use the Escape Artist skill. You can’t attack while using Escape Artist to squeeze through or into a narrow space, you take a -4 penalty to AC, and you lose any Dexterity bonus to AC.The Escape Artist skill further lists 'tight space' as a DC 30 check.

But since you usually round fractions down, you could argue that half of 15' is 5' and you can thus use the ordinary squeezing rules instead.
