| Zaryn_Maelstrum03-09-07, 08:44 PM | My friend wants to start a new campaign. I want to play a Duskblade- like character, but I've read on here that they suck. What is so wrong with them? On paper, they seem very powerful. |
| Prator_the_Legendary03-09-07, 08:48 PM | ...Duskblades suck? I don't really see how. You can make the same arguments against DBs as you can against fighters: In summary, that other classes can do the DB's jobs more effectively than DBs can. That said, if you're clever about optimizing your Duskblade's power, there's absolutely no reason why it shouldn't be a pretty effective character, relatively speaking. The same applies to fighters, incidentally. |
| Azezel03-09-07, 08:51 PM | Duskblades rock. Serriously - I have Dm'd for one, and seen my DM use them as NPC's - in both cases, the Duskblade is a cast iron bastard to fight. Never underestimate the flexability of a good gish. Out of combat, they are not quite so good, but you should have fair charisma na dintelligence, and there's no such thing as a bad roleplaying class. |
| FrostHammer03-09-07, 08:54 PM | They'd be fairly good if their channeling allows their spells in a full attack to affect the same creature. |
| YamiSouru03-09-07, 08:55 PM | Some people would say so because duskblades are geared to doing one thing. Damage. They can do damage by the tons but higher up in levels battlefield controll becomes very usefull and last time i checked DB arnt the best casters for that. however they will eat through the BBEGs hit points. |
| Rillek_Denar03-09-07, 10:33 PM | They're pretty good. I like having 10 spells per day of any level, and sudden quicken 4 times is a lovely feeling. |
| TheChilliGod03-09-07, 11:24 PM | Eh, I think some people claim Duskblades to be underpowered because they still can't find where the class's real spell list is. :D |
| Board_Rider03-09-07, 11:45 PM | I think that the Duskblade can be the primary fighter without any issues. This class can crop HPs quickly. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash03-10-07, 12:32 AM | The class is okay. It's a bit of a one-trick pony, with channeling spells as your main source of damage, and a lack of versatility from any bonus feats. It looks like there's a lot of spells, but I've seen that they burn up quickly. |
| FrostHammer03-10-07, 01:10 AM | I think bonus feats, and a an Advanced Learning technique ala Beguiler might help. |
| Grod_The_Giant03-12-07, 11:01 AM | They're the arcane gish. They get touch/ranged touch damaging spells and buffs. What more could they need? |
| Crimson_Concerto03-12-07, 06:06 PM | They're the arcane gish. They get touch/ranged touch damaging spells and buffs. What more could they need? 9th level spells and spells that are useful for something besides damage, like, say, a properly built gish utilizing prestige classes such a Abjurant Champion, Eldritch Knight, Spellsword, and others? :D Duskblades are good, but their job can be done much better through prestige classes. That being said, Duskblades DO give you the option to play a solid character for all 20 levels, which some gish builds to not do until later levels, so the Duskblade is still very much a solid class. |
