Let's start from the beginning. I had a druid who I'd been playing for a few months. He was about the same level/power as everyone else in the group (level 10, in a CR 11 party). Though one day he died... and was resurrected... losing a level.

That's when things went downhill. I was level 9... then I died again, because everyone had leveled in the last dungeon, so I ended up a good couple of levels behind everyone else. So then I was level 8. THEN... my druid's soul got sucked out and destroyed. No more resurrection.

So I had to make a new character... a level 3 character. Long story short... I have a level 3 char... in a party that is now CR 15 (not including me).

What the hell should I do?

yell at your DM...or just talk to him.

A 3rd lvl PC has no chance of surviving when everyone else is 15th lvl. You have 2 choices:
1) Talk to the DM, see what he will be willing to let you do.
2) Walk away, dont play.

3rd level.
in a 15th level party.

i honestly have to ask what the heck is wrong with your dm. As stated before, a 3rd lvl character cannot survive any CR 15 encouter. Either your DM has something up his/her sleeves, or he/she is just a jerk, and either way, you need to talk to them about your situation.

I don't think your DM likes you. Either that or he's an idiot.

Love unconditionally?
Contrary to what you're hearing in the above posts, it is possible for a 3rd-level character to contribute to the success of a party where everybody else is 15th level (primarily if you are an archer, or if you specialize in "buff" spells) but it's not a whole heck of a lot of fun. (The hilarious part is, of course, that under current XP rules, every time the party defeats a foe of CR 14+, you will gain no experience points...)

When one of our PCs dies and is resurrected, we allow either the loss of a level or retention of the level but with a permanent loss of one point of Constitution. Sometimes that's a really tough choice.

When a new PC is introduced into the party, that PC is one level less than the party average. I have to agree that your situation is untenable. A 3rd level PC will not survive with a 15th level party- not for long anyway. ;)

well being a 3rd lvl char in a party of 15 does suck but it can have its advantages roleplaying wise

What you should do: Shoot your DM in the face with a hammer. New characters are supposed to start one level lower then the AVERAGE ECL of the LIVING party members.

Though, Im suprised you kept dying, considering you were playing the best class in the core game.

Ahem. My friends at the 1st church of hammergun, we join here today to observe the hammering of Golchochobo's DM, allowing him to join other great men in the hall of people with big bumps on their heads.

I would talk with the DM about it and make my case for having a character that is at least near the rest of the party in terms of level. If such could not be worked out, I would consider finding another group, seems your DM is being rather harsh or unreasonable.

On a somewhat related note, in a campaign I played in there was a similar situtation. A level one character joining a party of significantly higher levels. As the person playing him put it, it was like being a "fart in a tornado." I replied that it depended on the size of the tornado and who produced the fart. Long story short, his character was the only one who survived to the end without dying once and thus Phelps the Rogue became Phelps, The God-Fart.

"You there, whipping boy. Carry my swag, will you? I'm slightly easier to kill carrying a medium load."

You were killed twice while the rest of the party continued to level, then utterly destroyed, and the DM had you come back at 3rd level?

He hates you. Quit while you're ahead. You could try talking to him, but either he'll deny it or he just doesn't realize he's doing it.

"Ok... My thought is that you should probably talk to the DM... Ask him about letting you go on some sort of personal quest that will let you gain back some of the pernamently lost levels... either that or atleast ask him to give you HUGE exp bonuses whether or not you take part in the battle so you gain levels alot more quickly. The key is to talk to the DM.

If that doesn't work

Your doomed and you will have to ask to make a new character... the last thing I want to say is leave however you may have to compared that you may spend half a year gaining levels so you can be even slightly helpful"

My goodness after reading this over I wonder what I honestly read because it couldn't have been your post...

I'd just level him up anyway. And don't fall for that "Gimme your character sheet, you're dead" routine at any time. Your character belongs to you and [i]you[i/] hold the copyright to it. Not the DM, not Wizards, not your mom. It's your creation.

Anyway, just level him up and when you give something a good crack and he looks at you crosswise, just give him an innocent look :D

I'm going to have to vote against this solution. Talking is good, but keep in mind that the DM is devoting his time and energy to constructing the plots. If you don't want to risk your character dying, do some freeform role-playing. And it's not quite a solution, even. The DM's response could just be "Fine. Go home."

For the record, I don't think this DM is the best. I'm just stating my opinion on the above solution. Talk to the DM and try to compromise. I'm not positive, but I think it's Core Rules for new characters to be one level lower than party average, or maybe one level lower than lowest level character.
