ECL 16 character suggestions? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-14-05, 10:29 PM My current DM is holding a campaign, a "pit tournament" as he calls it, everyone was instructed to make an ECL 16 character with the following guidelines:

- 34 point standard point buy
- any type, race, template, class, whatever character as long as it's ECL 16
- 260,000 gp to start off with
- the character needs to at least seem like it was progressed from first level
- no one item can take up more than 1/2 your total gold

I think I can figure out the items/equipment on my own, I just need help deciding on a character type. The only current other character that I've heard about is the DM's own character, which he brags about constantly, an ECL 16 Warlock that can baleful polymorph 1/round and has a free action eldritch blast. The only good thing about this campaign is that there will be no NPC characters, just all of our PC's beating the crap out of each other.

If anyone has any ideas for a character that could possibly dominate this campaign, please enlighten me.

12-14-05, 10:49 PM Midgard Dwarf from Frostburn, get 3 item creation feats free, and don't need the spells or lvls to make the items. Also make all your items usable only by dwarves to reduce the item cost by 30%.

- 3.5 Dungeon Master's Guide
- 3.5 Player's Handbook
- 3.5 Monster Manual
- Draconomicon
- Arms & Equipment Guide

A feeble list to be sure, but could you keep it within the pages of those books?

12-14-05, 11:48 PM For a tournament-type setup, look at pixie, ogre mage, and rakshasa. They have very useful racial traits and except for rakshasa (starting ECL 14) you have plenty of room for class levels. I made a really devestating pixie dervish but even without that PrC, you can do wonders with rogue levels: invisible at will, and damage (before sneak attack) has a minimum of 1 point, so don't worry about putting anything in strength. If you'll be facing your opponents after they can prepare for your known tactics, maybe think about a couple caster levels.
