| X0_Lt_0X02-18-08, 05:30 PM | Hai!!! In a campaign im in right now there is a psion........... A Werewolf Psion of all things. Anyways in combat he uses mind thrust and does 70 Damage, every time So then i looked up mind thrust on the SRD and learned that he would have to be a strait Lv11 Psion useing a maximized augmented mind thrust to do 70 DMG. right now were 7th Lv. So hes going over board by 4 Levels plus the LA of the werewolf I plan to tell the DM at the next meeting However i am concerned that my DM will let it slide and this player is a known party killer (well trying to kill my characters at least). he attempted to kill the party in every campaign ive ever been in with him. Anyways i would like to have some Defense against his Mind thrust My Character is a Archivist 3/ Wizard 3/ Mystic Thurge 1 Human with 37HP (yeah a one hit KO) 6 STR, 10 DEX, 12 CON, 24 INT, 14 WIS, & 12 CHA AC:10 Feats: Practiced SpellcasterX2 (wizard & Archivist), Alacritous cogitation, & leadership Cohort: LV5 Crusader Dwarf (going into Devoted Defender) 75HP 14 STR, 12 DEX, 22 CON, 10 INT, 10 WIS, 8 CHA Feats: Wea. Focus (Dwarven Waraxe), Alertness AC:26 (+1 Dex, +1 Full Plate (+9), +1 Steel Towershield (+6)) Any help will be appreciated =3 |

So it works or it doesn't. You functionally have Evasion versus it. 2) Mindblank: It is mind-affecting. 3) SR/PR: It has to go through these. By the way, you have terrible wisdom for a divine casting dude... Good Int though for Arcane side. Your saves are what? Base 8=+3 Wizard +2 Mythic Theuge + Archvist which I assume is good Will saves. So +2 Wisdom = Saves so far +10. Add in Closk of Resist (come on, standard adventuring gear versus Saves) +2 (cheap/affordable by your level) and we get +12. Assuming, he cheats and gets 7th level augmented Mindthrust and always rolls max (he might): he will have DC 14 + Int I'd go with 20 (+5 to DC) as reasonable by than. So DC only 19. You make it on a 7 if you got the Cloak (65% success). Without the cloak you make it on a 9 (55%). Really, the Player either forgot that one can't exceed the manifester cap or is blatently cheating. |

Archivist dont need wisdom, they neen INT, but on to other pressing matters. And by the way his INT Is in the Mid 20s Like mine, and when he does DMG, he just says he does 70, and no, he did not roll |
| Urithair02-18-08, 07:19 PM | This guy is at least ECL 10, more if he has racial hit die for they lycanthropy, in a level seven campaign. He is also cheating with psionics. This isn't a fair, so don't bring a knife to a gun fight. Here is the question you must ask yourself: Do I spend a lot of time and resources preparing for a possible attack, or do I make a preemptive strike? I would suggest waiting for him to fall asleep and CDG him with a wooden heavy pick that has Spikes cast on it (give your cohort one and have him ready an action to copy you). That should be enough to kill him. You can even spring for alchemical silver to put on the weapons and overcome his DR. Motive? Well, this is an example of pure metagaming. Your char doesn't know that his is a murderous psychopath, but YOU do. This will lead to drama, so be prepared. Apologize for metagaming and tell the DM that you forgot to put ranks into 'Knowledge: Cheating Munchkins' |
| X0_Lt_0X02-18-08, 07:36 PM | Well Im going to cast Mark of Justice (if I can ever find a scroll of it) on him and if the DM asks why im just going to say that I believe he a dangerous person to be around and with my little knowledge of psionics plus his chaotic nature, Im useing it as a precaution against him and his 70 Damage. Heck my character is a guy running around recording everything that happened in the campaign. Hes doesnt have any defense against any attack besides his Devoted Defender, which cant defend against magic, much less psionics. My character has every right to take the nessary actions to defend against this mans "Psionics". My character fears Psionics, which he has nearly no Knowledge of, far more than any magic, which he is a intermediate caster in both Arcane and Divine Magic. Do you see any Metagaming here ;) |

Show the DM the part about rolling the d10s at the very least, then show him the maximum ML this Lycanthrope has, and what his stats should look like. If it doesn't work: Metagame and kill the PKer's Character in his sleep. Then tell him to play by the freaking rules. |

At your level, if you were straight up Wizard or Archivist, you would be owning his ass with 4th level spells. Heck, at your level, you could very easily pull off the DMM (Persist) Archivist cheese via Divine Bard and Favored Soul ACFs. Essentially, that gives you access to almost every spell in DnD, as both of them are Divine casters with access to Arcane spells, so you wouldn't need the Mystic Theurge. And this guy has 2 characters? At ECL 7? And one of them is a Devoted Defender? Someone isn't playing by the rules. This person needs a folding chair. To the face. And fast! Or if you feel really evil, try one of these babies: http://www.brookhursthobbies.com/dragon/images/GatlingF.JPG |

| CrimsonDeath02-18-08, 07:59 PM | By the way, you have terrible wisdom for a divine casting dude... Good Int though for Arcane side. Wisdom only affects his bonus Archivist spells per day. Max spell level and save DCs are based on Intelligence. Really, the Player either forgot that one can't exceed the manifester cap or is blatently cheating. I suspect he's blatantly cheating. According to the thread on the Psionics board, his cohort is apparently a Werebear Troll (ECL 20). Others in that thread have also determined that it would take around an ECL 11 Human Werewolf Psion to manifest a Maximized Mind Thrust for 70 damage, and that would require Overchannel. Motive? Well, this is an example of pure metagaming. Your char doesn't know that his is a murderous psychopath, but YOU do. Actually, the character could probably have a pretty good idea. Wizards and Archivists both get all Knowledge skills as class skills. As Human Werewolves are of the Humanoid type and have a minimum of 3 HD, a DC 18 Knowledge (Local) check should reveal that almost all werewolves are Chaotic Evil. Detect Evil is on both the Cleric and Wizard lists, so it should be pretty easy to figure out if this particular werewolf is a one-in-a-million exception. (Unless you're using the Ravenloft rule where Detect Evil doesn't work.) |

Yeah my character is kinda of a scribe/researcher/seeker of artifacts kinda guy. He doesn't have a patron god, and he regards arcane and divine magic two means to the same path, nor does he prefer one to the other. And one of the other important roleplaying details is that he records "Everything" (Both arcane and divine spells, personal journal, maps, documents, etc ) in his life in this 5000+ paged book. http://www.brookhursthobbies.com/dragon/images/GatlingF.JPG :surrender |
