Eldritch Blast: Description? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-21-07, 12:04 AM How do you dsecribe an Eldritch Blast rather than saying, "I use Eldritch Blast on the skeleton."

"Eldritch Blast" just doesn't seem like something people would go around knowing and saying.

03-21-07, 12:19 AM i like the warlock class, its fun, so instead of saying "i use my eldritch blast on the skeleton", say something like "I will ruin this walking pile of bones with my anger" and let loose a seething bolt of pent-up arcane energy and watch the bastard blow apart

Channeling chaos, I distort the space before me, scattering my opponent's vital organs into a mixture which, while physically repulsive, is emotionally quite satisfying.

I am magic given flesh. I live it, breathe it, subsist within it. I will destruction towards my opponent, and magic heeds my call.

Using the rite passed down by my ancestors, I invoke the Nightstar Talon. Quick hand gestures, one pointed finger, and a beam of violet blossoms forth, cleaving the target's flesh.

I unmake him.

Hand straightens. Magic aligned. Fingers span outwards. Magic grasped. Fist closes. Magic engulfing. A certain portion of space-time, currently occupied by my opponent's left forearm, explodes violently.

Lotus Fist circles, Palm of the Tenth surges forward. A beam from the heavens smites my foe.

I shoot him in the face. With my mind-beams.

Gather power, release destruction. Gather power, release destruction. Gather power, release destruction. I could do this all day...

My hand whips forward, and the guardian of my ancestors, Ika'girin'sha, manifests, coiling about my arm and belching eldritch flame at my enemy.

Grasping mystic energies, I hurl my will into a whip of pure magical energy, its foxfire surface lashing into my opponent, searing him with an arcane crack of doom.

The air about my head hums slightly for a moment, then a sudden pulse cascades forward and slams my enemy aside.

Slamming the ground, I summon forth a wave of biting energy, tearing and gnashing as it rushes my opponent, devouring him whole.

With a snap of the fingers, I call up a tiny glimmer of light. Hurling the immaterial object into my opponent, I am rewarded with his scream of torment as it detonates.

Hands clasped before me, the darkness of heritage is called forth. A black lance of shear shadow spikes outward from between my eyes, skewering into the enemy before receding back into my ancestry.

I grasp a sphere of eldritch destruction and pitch it into my opponent.

Planting my feet exactly shoulder width, placing my hands on the third and seventh configurations, I speak a single syllable, and magic shatters around me, the shards swirling into my target, slicing him to ribbons.

The shadow profile of a Glabrezu flickers around me as I cast forth hellfire.

And finally, from my personal warlock character.
In the core of my being, I open a tiny crack in the seal that barely contains the Malicious Infinite. In an instant, it surges forth, roaring with fury, corrupting with hatred, brimming with energy. Barely containing the endless onslaught, I siphon a portion of that power, channeling it against my opponent, before fighting with all my soul to reseal the Relentless. Azure darkness cascades upon my enemy, rending, engulfing, shattering.
.....Yeah, he had issues.

Ha ha ha... i had a player who took warlock levels then monk levels to try and have a DBZ character, it didnt turn out so well

If your DM let you combine the Ki Blast feat and eldritch blast, that could maybe work. Or, better yet, if the two had one of those class-combining feats...

03-21-07, 04:00 AM Reaching out quickly to grasp a thread of my opponents essence, I wrap it around the vodoo doll in my hand, then plunge a dagger into it. Simultaneously, the same wounds appear on the victim's body.

That was a fun one, took a bit of figuring out how the touch attack played into it, but grabbing their essence seemed a decent fit.

Eldritch Blast causes Slashing damage, and is treated as a Vorpal Weapon? I like. :D

03-21-07, 09:59 AM I just describe it as being a blast of colored fire that I hurl at my enemy. No big, long-winded description necessary. Sometimes I would throw in something verbal (usually just a simple "DIE!!") for added emphasis.

03-21-07, 02:15 PM A crackling bolt of raw eldritch power. Simple, short, and it deals as much damage as any of these 5-sentence monstrosities. Remember, you'll be using this description every time you invoke an eldritch blast, which is about once per round.

Dragoncat gave many useful examples. However, more mundane examples work just as well.

Snapping a hand to my gunbelt, I pull forth the lengthy stock of wood and click at the hammer furiously. A series of smoke bleched bullets sail towards their targets. (Chain blast)

Grasping a handful of daggers, I whip them about myself in a wild spin, lacerating every foe who dares to come near! (Doom blast)

The wee halfling whirled the little sling faster than I'd ever seen, and not soon after a rock launched up, up, up and nailed the fellow from over 200 paces! (Spear blast)

Staggering around drunkly, the pot-bellied fellow hiccuped his last ale and let forth a monumental torrent of vomited digestive fluid and liqour that sizzled and burned everything in its path! (Cone blast)

After the first few times, I just used the phrase "eldritch blast," because everyone already knows what it looks like.

My threat, of course, was "I'll blast you into next Tuesday!"

For the summon swarm, I just shouted "Spiders!"

As for fell flight, "Stupid gravity. I do what I want!"
