| Docter_J_03-22-06, 11:09 AM | I'm playing a level6 LG Fighter human  (starting a new campaign) what are some good equipment choices to buy that will benefit my AC  -Masterwork Large Longsword (monkey grip feat) -Masterwork Full Plate -Tower shield -(Amulet of natural armor +1) -(ring of protection +1) - ... ? |
| Clawhound03-22-06, 04:22 PM | In 3.5, many problems can be bypassed with the right mixture of non-magic equipment. Some combination of weapons: * A magic weapon (bypass DR/magic) * An alchemical silver weapon (bypass DR/silver) * A cold iron weapon (bypass DR/cold iron) * A wooden weapon * A blunt weapon * A slashing weapon * A piercing weapon * A reach weapon * A subdual weapon * A light weapon (for grappling, like spiked gauntlet or armor spikes) A well equipped fighter is a swiss-army-knife of weapons. Preferably, you combine weapons together, like an alchemical silver mace, or a cold-iron short sword. I will leave the exact configuration to you. Having non-magic weapons that can bypass DR is an extremely cheap investment with a high payoff when you need those weapons. Most DR is around 5, so bypassing DR5 is better than a +5 power attack, is worth more than a mere +1 to hit and damage for a magic weapon, and far cheaper than +10 strength. Your main weapon should be your best weapon and cost the most. Don't invest too much in your secondary weapons. Layer your protection: Armor (armor bonus) Shield (shield bonus) Natural Armor (natural armor bonus) Item of Protection (deflection bonus) Dexterity (dodge bonus) Due to the pricing structure of magic items, it is always far cheaper to add a +1 from many things than a +2 from one thing. |

| taradusis03-22-06, 10:13 PM | Every fighter should carry exactly 4 weapons, too many weapons and you cant decide which to use and are weighed down. Not enough weapons and you lack flexability.I also recomend a cloak of protection.Spend half your money on armor. |
| jennibert03-22-06, 10:35 PM | As far as protective items go, a +1 enhancement to armor or a shield is cheaper than an amulet of natural armor +1, or a ring of protection +1. Money may or may not be tight, but if you need a little extra, considering going with the +1 enhancement bonus over the amulet of natural armor. (Definitely buy the ring first--it helps against touch attacks and natural armor doesn't!) If you're wearing full plate, it's probably not worth boosting your dex too much, unless it's below the max dex requirement. If it is, that's probably a good choice (again, useful against touch attacks, the bane of heavily armored fighters!), but if not, focus on the others first. |
| Docter_J_03-24-06, 02:39 AM | 6th level character 9000gp (wealth) ;) i changed the setup to: 1)M. Large Electricity Longsword (2d6dam+1d6shok+str) :D (first melee) 2)Large Longsword(second melee) 3)dagger + Throwing Dagers (small + ranged) M. Fullplate M. Darkwood H. Shield +sheat on shield other Improvements you know? |
| Docter_J_03-24-06, 02:47 AM | BTW my feat monkey grip, does it enlarge my daggers to?? |
| metamind03-24-06, 09:03 AM | I'd recomend you getting exotic weapon proficientcy with any exotic weapon not in the PHB. Trust me.A fighter weilding a lajatang is more conventiet than a londsword. Especially if you're the only one who knows what a Lajatang is. |
| Merestil Haye03-24-06, 09:17 AM | 6th level character 9000gp (wealth) ;) i changed the setup to: 1)M. Large Electricity Longsword (2d6dam+1d6shok+str) :D (first melee) (snip)You cannot afford that longsword. It's cost is 8,300 plus the price of the longsword; that leaves you with less than 700gp for everything else on your list. You may be overlooking that in order to be given the Shock special property, it first has to be given a +1 enhancement; thus the weapon is a +2 equivalent. If you make it a +1 longsword you will be fine, and have the groundwork for later enhancements already made. |
| Jherid03-24-06, 09:57 AM | A well equipped fighter is a swiss-army-knife of weapons. Preferably, you combine weapons together, like an alchemical silver mace, or a cold-iron short sword. Instead if you have access to them I would suggest just getting the Sure Striking (PGtF) + Metalline (UD) enhancements on a weapon so that you automatically get through all alignment based DR and can change the metal of your sword to get past material DR. Or if you just want one enhancement there's also Shadow Striking (ToM), which gets through alignment and material DR but doesn't give you the material's bonus like metalline does. If you realy think you might need it you could also toss on Morphing (UD) so you can change the weapon into other weapons in its size category, to get through DR slashing/bludgeoning/piercing. Still carry a backup weapon or two, though, never know when you might need it. (monkey grip feat) I would also advise against taking monkey grip, the slight average increase you get in a bigger damage dice size is worse than simply power attacking for 2, which is the penalty MG gives. |
| celtredleg03-24-06, 10:50 AM | I go for the swiss army aproach. You can get a lot of milage out of a little gold by going that route. And as a fighter, your strength is usualy high enough to pack it all as well. |
| Docter_J_03-28-06, 11:37 AM | i changed the large longsword with monkey feat into bastard sword with exotic weapon prof. good? |
