| darkdragonk11-03-06, 11:17 PM | Try making your favored enemy humanoid. then be kind of an asassin then snipe people and sell them to maneating creatures for money ( but dont get eaten your self:devil: |
| Fireclave11-03-06, 11:26 PM | Be a Ranger and take Favored Enemy (Puppies and Small Children) |
| darkdragonk11-03-06, 11:29 PM | Kill Bambi's mom, and then him and the annoying woodland creatures, then open a steak house with venisin and squirrel stew:plotting: |
| The White Sorcerer11-03-06, 11:43 PM | Okay, so i want to play as an evil archer, and anyone else who does. You want to play anyone else who wants to play as an evil archer? Weird. Post your tips on playing one. I might've had advice for playing a good or neutral archer, but evil? Sorry, I've got nothing. |
| Ramrod_The_Wizard11-03-06, 11:56 PM | For an evil archer, i would reccomend scout over ranger. Scouts are sneaky, great with ranged weapons, and IMO fit better with the flavor. I made a character like this, a tiefling rogue/asassin (before i knew about scout, but i wanted him to be good at both), and i had alot of fun. Sniping and poision use will eccentuate the idea, and UMD (i think its a scout class skill) will help lots and lots. A wand of invisiblity and bottle of liquid pain are an evil archers best friend. |

Nope ... scouts don't get UMD. :) |
| Ramrod_The_Wizard11-04-06, 12:18 AM | Nope ... scouts don't get UMD. :) Aww, well then just go rogue. That character, though didnt have much play time, was one of my best ever. Deadly in both ranged and melee combat, but if you want you can focus either way easily. Sneaky and can use magic items, which is always a perk. Finnaly, poison use makes archery evil "Look how much damage you took, AND NOW FOR THE CON DAMAGE  " |

It's very hard to get ranged sneak attack, so the ninja's invisibility power is perfect. You get poison use as a class feature as well. |

I never realy looked at the ninja much, but from what ive heard its good especially with the Assassin PrC. |

The ability to turn invisible long enough to study a subject for the Death Attack comes in handy, yes. "I'm observing him from a distance of one foot. Coincidentally, my weapon is a foot and a half long." Or so I'd suspect. I don't do the Evil PC thing. :) |

The only alignment id never play, unless in a solo game, is CE because its a game breaker. You cannot mesh with your party ever, and your almost obligated to once a week murder an orphange full of sickly children. |
| darkdragonk11-04-06, 12:42 AM | Ninjas do have special abilities that would be helpful to an assasin, haveing humannoid favored enemt would be useful. plus rangers got more of that bowkinda feeling |
| Ramrod_The_Wizard11-04-06, 12:49 AM | Maybe its just because im baised against rangers, but i dont think they are the best archers. The bonus feats are restrictive IMO, and that a bow specialized fighter would be more effective if made correctly. Also rangers are more nature based, which doesnt meld with alot of concepts. I like being able to snipe people, use poison, and do overall evil archer kind of things. |

Especially if they do a wilderness ambush, with properly chosen spells, Rangers can be scary. |
| Ramrod_The_Wizard11-04-06, 12:57 AM | Im not denying that rangers cant be effective, but they are more nature based which may hinder them in certain comparisons to the other classes. The spells and animal companion do complement them well, but just in a more urban/dungeon based envrioment, thy lose some of the ooumph. |
| darkdragonk11-04-06, 07:59 AM | I think this board was about rangers not what is better thab a ranger \ |
| draco111911-04-06, 08:15 AM | Play an evil Arcane Archer. At 2nd level, Imbue your arrows with Silence, and start shooting at all the casters they send after you. Then, when they send non-casters because you've killed them too quickly, Imbue your arrows with Deathcloud. |
| The White Sorcerer11-04-06, 10:45 AM | I think this board was about rangers not what is better thab a ranger Nope. This thread is about archers. Fighters, IMO, make better archers than rangers. |
| Whisper_Swiftblade11-04-06, 12:35 PM | hexblades make for pretty good archers, maybe try that out. |
| Delfedd11-04-06, 02:02 PM | If I where you, I would definately check out Enemy at the Gates. Vasily would be a good example of a Ranger who multiclassed into a rogue, possibly even an assasin. Konig is probably a Fighter/assasin. |
| fun222311-04-06, 09:16 PM | Now I know you probably cant do this, but my DM gave 1 enemy archer the ability to slow time for everyone but her... 1000 arrows per turn =:ghosted: :elf: IWANNACOOKIE!!!!!! |
| JasonOrlandoHawk11-05-06, 12:47 AM | A few notes on Ranger: 1) Favored Enemy bonuses apply at any distance, not just 30ft. 2) Never underestimate the power of an animal companion to hurt, hinder, and kill your opposition. Also a nice source of intimidation/distraction manuevers. A few notes on Fighter: 1) Best overall archery build, but worst skill set for "typical" evil manuevers. (Ambush, backstab, etc...) A few notes on Rogue/Scout: 1) Very solid damage, but not the highest. 2) Excellent Ambush potential. My Build: Elf Wizard/Fighter (or Ranger)/Arcane Archer Focus on Figher (or Ranger) Levels, and only take a minimum number of Wizard Spellcasting Levels. Obtain Arcane Archer. Kill people in embarressing, overkill manners. For example: Craft a Death Arrow, then purchase a scroll of Meteor Swarm (you will need an Int. of 19 to use this). Load the Meteor Swarm spell into your arrow. Wait for a dramatically appropriate moment... (such as when the character you're stalking goes to the latrine...) Fire your arrow using the Phase Arrow special ability. Combine this with a very nasty bow, and you have utter embarressing destruction. Arrow hits. If damage does not kill, they must make Fort. Save or Die. If they save, they look up and realize that they have 4 Meteors about to slam into them. That's an EVIL archer build. (Phase arrow is the sniper's dream, anyways...) |
| crossp11-05-06, 12:52 AM | Go for the wounding ability on your bow as soon as possible. Reducing an enemy's fort save with every attack makes a great compliment to poisons. Have your party spellcaster cast animate object on your arrows before you fire them, so they can "wriggle". You could even design your arrows specially to work with this. Maybe give them pronged heads rather than blades. They could dig themselves deeper. If you're starting at low levels. Employ caltrops often. They're funny. They might also keep people away from you. If you go for the sneaky type: Out of nowhere, an arrow lodges itself in the eye of the party wizard knocking him dead. After failing to find the assailant, they notice an inscription on the side of the arrow. What does it say? *the fighter leans in close for a look* Explosive Runes! *spattered wizard head* |
