| Taren12-18-07, 09:46 PM | I am in need of some Ideas to get the ball writing on my introduction of my familiar to the group. the setting is Faerun and the group is currently in waterdeep. my character is a gnome illusionist who pretends to be a real wizard. and he has an "eyeball" (beholderkin) as a familiar. this obviously grotesque proclaimation of his evil nature will of course not go over well which is why he's kept fluffy hidden, however the group has come to a decision (based mainly due to one player's out of character need to hide EVERYTHING about her character from the players), of havin no secrets. and to show the party I am a gnome of my word I want to introduce fluffy to them in a calm and non threatening way. I want to do it in an E-mail so I can write a dramatic tension into the story and they can react at the next game or via E-mail. please give me any suggestions you have as to the setup to help me start writing.... I hate writers block! |

| Taren12-18-07, 11:11 PM | First- are the PLAYERs (and DM) Ok with this? with my introduction of my familiar? um...I'm not really sure what you are asking. the group has been adventuring for a little while and one of the characters hides everything from the group that she can get away with, (OOC: never letting anyone see her character sheet, etc... even amidst disputes that she cannot d what she says she can.) the characters are drawing a contract of nepath forcing everyone to not keep secrets. ie they can't lie to the group, and can't keep things from the group, so I have to reveal my familiar eventually and I would rather do it sooner than later since the character doesn't care one way or the other. about it, his little eyeball has been hiding out of politeness. to the group since they are not from waterdeep the beholder reviling should not be an issue within the party. and I can continue to hide his existance to everyone else. I want the party to draw upon his bein introduced rather than introduce him myself, like something akin to the following. the group being gathered around in a temple devoted to some diety of illusion that you can't quite recognize, <insert character name> standing on a chair as is his style for gatherings. the great dinining hall is most impressive and the off comment remarks that the little gnome utility mage makes regarding its decorations makes you assume it was he who selected the atmosphere within. a large table able to accomoate 14 guests allows the group to find comfortable seats either near or far from the other members as is their usual choice. ice cold steins of subtle bubbling wine sit in front of each attendant to the meeting and is served a fresh mug if the beverage ever falls below half full. it is a delectable taste and exquisite quality. small talk not being this groups strongsuit he opens with a joke attempting to ease into the formality of the situation. "good evening, I'm sure you all have better things to do than drink the night away." with a little wink he removes his perfectly pressed fedora revealing his silver hair, and slowly he removes his glasses revealing a small shadowy mist emenating from his eyes as he continues "I trust you like my Elven Summer Wine, it is kept quite cool while in oaken casks stored in small caves....the bottles crafted from a single piece of crystal are then served packed in blocks of ice gathered from the isolated summer snow packs that still cling to the mountains from the Savage North...these types of wine are famous for quenching the thirst of travellers throughout Faerun....of noble elven lineage...and as you can see I am not an elf..." another wink as some of his guests roll their eyes at his attempt at levity. "okay okay, fine fine, I have a draft of the contract requested by non other than master <insert name of half dragon fighter> at our last formal engangement. it states in no uncertain terms that no one is to keep secrets from the rest of the group." a small dull black box carried by an unseen servant most likely as you can see no one carrying it, is placed on the table as he speaks he places a hand upon it. "it is enchanted as you might be able to see with the ability to tell when someone is keeping a secret. he taps the box with one finger and it springs open and a small chewing noise can be heard emenating from within. a look of surprise washes across his face as he exclaims "FUZZY no! bad fuzzy bad bad." picking up his napkin and swatting something from within the box, you catch a glimpse of a orb a little bigger than your fist with several tentacles ending in eyestalks quickly vanish from out of the box and disappear grumbling in a language you don't understand. rolling his eyes as the small creature quickly disappears from sight "I placed it in this scrollcase engraved with all of our names." taking a scrollcase of gold and placing it on the table, unrolling the scroll from within, and laying it flat upon the table. "any questions?" |

| Taren12-19-07, 12:40 AM | I am asking if the other players are OK with you running an Evil PC. I am assuming this is not an all-Evil game. yeah if they weren't then I'm sure they would have said something. only one member of the group is "good" the rest are morally ambiguous. as players they already know about the familiar. aside from the one new player everyone else is very open about their characters usually its to have the rest of the group help out if they forget about something. the new girl I suspect is maintaining the secrecy due to an attempt to navigate outside of the rules of the game. while we don't really care the secrecy is annoying and have created the contract Idea. |

"What, just because of what he is he doesn't get a chance to prove that he is a decent creature? Why do you automaticlly assume he is up to no good?" |
