the burrfoot 11-27-05, 12:29 PM	My character is an exalted arcanist so you can guess hes a major good guy. Hes a halfling though, and has the same cheeky attitude as the rest of them. What im really stuck with is incorporating and bonding the two so i know when the goodness of a paladin type nature begins and the jibes and mockery stop. :eek: I feel that my character has become rather stale and im a bit stuck on how to make him come alive. My other character is similar, shes a bard/harper paragon. If anyones read players guide to faerun you will know what the harper paragon prestige class is like. :embarrass Ive played chaotic good characters before, without a problem. Its just with the added "exalted" title im struggling. :weep: When im throwing spells like holy smite around i just feel like im not fitting the bill because im a ragamuffin aswell, who likes drinking, women and gambling.
Milandros 11-27-05, 02:15 PM	An exhaulted character may possibly like drinks, women and gambling, but.... 1. Would never drink to the point where he was in the slightest doubt about his actions. Would certainly never drink until he was likely to do something he'd regret later. 2. Would never deceive women, even in the normal boasting and bragging way, and would never ever allow a woman to have an incorrect assumption as to the nature of the relationship. No "I love you"s unless they were completely genuine - then taking full responsibility for anything after that. Including emotional responsibility to try to prevent any hurt feelings if things work out. No cheating on partners, no leading people on, no using the poor or desperate for money. Maybe - maybe - a high class, high price courtesan might be acceptable (as long as the code of ethics and his god's beliefs allow), if she has no need to continue in her business but does it for pleasure, but never use a prostitute who doesn't have an easy other option. No degredation of humanity. 3. Would gamble, but never on a scale that would encourage corruption or crime, never cheating, never taking advantage of another's lack of skill. No bankrupting local farmers or merchants just because you're better than they are. No leaving someone without a shirt on their back. Remember, it's for pleasure and friendly entertainment. Exhaulted isn't a bit of paladin like nature. It's what paladins aspire to. Regular paladins hope that they can be that good, and secretly fear that they can't live up to it. It's a really hard type of character to play, and I'm not suprised you're having a hard time of it. Exhaulted characters are by their nature a little less complex than a lot of other characters and are therefore often less interesting to play. Vile characters are usually similar - one can only wallow in the worst depths of degredation and villiany for so long without it getting boring. Interesting villians are often ones you can feal sorry for, or have the tiniest hint of sympathy with. In some ways, the Harper aspect of your character is what makes this possible. The rapscallion is the cover identity, the face the Harper shows to the world - Harpers work behind the scenes, after all. The exhaulted character is the dedicated, heroic, self-sacrificing noble being that hides behind the false front in order to do the greatest good.He should be the villian's worst nightmare. The moment that the happy go-lucky, laughing friendly rogue suddenly becomes the hard-eyed, uncompromising crusader against evil should send a shivver or fear through him.

Ta very much :) im going to go to my next game with a totally new perspective on my character now. So ill be happy go lucky, but when it comes to difficult fights where people are in danger (or a similar situation) ill become a real force for good. Thanks alot for your time and effort
