I'm about to start playing an Eberron game, in which the party is part of a pirate airship crew based in Lhazar. The rest of the party consists of two Warforged (a Barbarian and a Swashbuckler) and a human Barbarian. When I decided to break the general party direction and make a Cleric, the player with the Warforged Barbarian decided that was a terrible idea, since the DM informed us that there would be an Adept on the ship who would serve as a healer.

I didn't chose Cleric to be a healer (though that's not to say I won't have a couple of healing spells prepared). Rather, it's a Cleric of The Dark Six taking to the skies to show that the wrath of The Devourer is not limited to seafarers (and a female elf to boot). Domains are Weather and Destruction. Party starting level is 4, so not terribly much in the way of fearsome spells. I've never really played a Cleric before, and I want to make this character a memorable one. Basically, I want to show that the role of the Cleric is in no way limited to standing by and healing the meatshields, but can really be a force to be reckoned with in its own right. Any tips?

Ummm, just be a regular cleric. Yes Clerics have access to healing spells, but they also have access to many spells that increase a target's AC, damage, chances to hit, saves, and other abilities. A Cleric that doesn't have to worry about healing/buffing allies and instead uses all of their spellcasting to enhance their own abilities is a fearsome opponent indeed, just as capable, if not moreso in melee than most of the frontline base classes.

They'll quickly see that the Cleric is more than just a healer. Just don't go overboard and make it so that they feel they're not needed very much.

No, do go overboard.
Show them how a cleric with the destruction domain can kick serious booty, and if it takes the spotlight, good for you.
Clerics ain't all healers. Some are destroers. Show them the error of their ways.

Be the airship's pilot. There's feats that let you do it even if you don't have the Mark of Storm. Claim you're literally guiding the ship in the name of the Devourer, and be sure to liberally use Call Lightning (or similar storm spells; I'm pretty sure that's on the Weather domain) if you happen to get in any airship chases. When your skiff dodges *every* bolt while flying through a storm, but the other guys get fried, while you stand at the wheel cackling with righteous mania and shouting adulations to the Devourer, they'll think twice about calling you the box of band-aids.

Avoid anything traditionally clerical, either. Ditch the heavy armor (Magic Vestment on a pirate shirt FTW). Use a rapier (elf) instead of a mace. Wear a necklace of shark teeth or graft a sharkjaw to the hilt of your sword. Take no crap from anyone -- it is by the mercy of the Devourer that this ship doesn't sink, and you will never let them forget it while you're on board.

If you're actively evil (or just terribly malicious), consider only healing those people who submit to the authority of the Devourer, and remind them that they're already prostate before him with naught but a few planks of soarwood between them and the long drop with the sudden stop.

Mechanically, I'd suggest hopping on over to the CO boards and asking for advice there.

I'd rather not encourage actions that will more than likely result in more threads like, "HELP, MY DM NERFED MY CHAR!", "HELP! PLAYER IS OVERPOWERED!", or "CLERICS ARE OVERPOWERED!" It might also encourage any party members with partygaming tendancies to try to make clerics in the next campaign.

Going overboard with your character and INTENTIONALLY stealing the spotlight and fun from everyone else is never good.

If you are just out to prove a point, codzillia is the way to go, but personally I think you could have alot of fun with the above mentioned prestige classes.

I wish I had access to a copy of Stormwrack.

Also, the DM let it be known that none of us is the captain (or even an officer).

Mainly this character will be battlefield support (decent buffs/debuffs). I don't plan on stealing the spotlight, but it'll be interesting to show what 18 STR with Improved Sunder and the Destruction domain Smite ability can do.
