| daen08-18-06, 02:47 PM | Hi this is my first post so bear with me if I make a mistake. My brother and I just bought a basic game and we got one of my freinds to be the DM but after killing some kobolds we asked what our experiance was, so my freind looked through the book and couldnt find anything about experiance anyware so we gave up and I went and bought the players handbook but all it said was that the DM asisgns the experiance so does the DM make it up as they go along or is there a book that tells the xp of everything? any information would be appreciated thanks |

Though it doesn't have the Experience table, the D20 srd (www.d20srd.org) is a good place to quick reference rules if you need something specific. |

Daen, The rules you are looking for are on pg 10 of the "First Adventure Book" and pg 37 of the "Advanced Rule Book". XP is awarded once you go "back to town". The initial adventure is worth 150 XP for the kobolds plus 120 XP for the trap, divided evenly among the PCs. Other rooms have an XP award listed in their room description. Like the initial XP, this is divided evenly among the party once they go "back to town". If your DM is customising the adventure, the "basic monster manual" (Advanced Rule Book pg 54 ff) contains XP awards for each monster. All traps are worth 120 XP each (see pg 33). If you choose to upgrade to "real" D&D, the Player's Handbook and Dungeon Master's Guide have a bunch of rules about XP and levelling that supersede the D&D basic game rules. |

Ah, my bad. I think I had the D&D basic at one point, and I think I forgot it existed. :embarrass Yeah, what Nom said is pretty much right. If you enjoy D&D basic, then by all means step up to the real stuff, and feel free to ask about anything that's got you confused. MOST of us won't laugh at you, and those who do will probably catch flack for it. :D |
