I am playing DND using D20 and I can't find anything on experience and level-ups and the like. Could anyone give me some info or tell me where I can get it? Thanks in advance.

Buy the books.

How about a less rude answer?

The tables for how much experience needed to level up is at the start of the classes section in the Players Handbook. The tables for how much exp monsters will give you is in the Dungeon Masters Guide.

You can also use the SRD which you can download from the wizards of the coast website.

All basic information on experience and more.
Nothing is contained about that in the SRD, buy the books. :D

Quamuu is evidently trying to play with only the SRD (or "d20", as he called it) for reference. It actually does not contain information about experience and leveling up, as that information is not covered under the OGL.

It's his right to play "cheap", but I won't pity him because of it.

:banghead:
I tryed to explain that it's not like pure evil or somthing, but she is SOO stuborn.

you could always device a formulae for calculating experience... such as:
((X^2 - x) * 1000) xp would be a pretty good formulae as it results in:
level 2: 2000
3: 6000
4: 12000
5: 20 000

etc.

Yes, all of those are evil, but mostly Ronald McDonald.

I'll just tell you this:
To reach the next level, you need an additional amount of XP equal to your current level * 1000.

Ironically, i know a few dms who have all the books, and don't use the experence rules. Just level your players when you feel it is appropriate. It works better than one would expect

I would recommend you some how convince her to take a look at the Players Handbook. Get her to go to chapters and sit down and read the thing. as well there are several sites out there that show that dnd isn't evil and are actually benificial to a growing young man. (fight her with logic. lol)

hope that helps, if she still doesn't want the books, well at least shse made an educated choice.

Not only that but it's probably a Red State...

I'm still amazed that there are actually people in the US who are still so backward that they think a GAME can steal your soul or that books about fantasy (like Harry Potter) need to be BANNED. It actually hurts my brain that there are people like this...

Tell her to send me an email with a point by point explanation as to how it is evil and I will debunk EVERY point made.

Ill also explain how D&D may have saved my life.

Most people who have the opinion that D&D is evil ussually have no logic, points, reasons. Logic does not work on the illogical.

In fact, saying that it may have saved your life sounds more sound than calling something arbirarily evil.

At 19 I had suicidal thoughts.

I stopped having them after joining a D&D group.

Therefore, it MAY have saved my life.

Why not listen to your Mom? Hell, maybe she knows something you don't. Besides, in two years you're off to college and she won't have a say in it anyway. Is it really worth all the drama to play some stupid game? Why not just grab d20 modern (which totally pwns, BTW) or take up paintball. Martial arts are fun. Highschool wrestling is cheap and will get you in really good shape.

In two years, go to B&N and buy out their stock of D&D stuff, but seriously, is it really worth the trouble right now?

Your mom is just tryin' to do right by you, so cut her some slack.

Dude, he's 16 en there is no such thing as soul-stealing-books. There is NO WAY his mom MAY have a point. It's a freaking game...

He didnt say she was right. He said she was trying.

At 16 though, you do get the right to challenge your parents' beliefs when they push them on you.

Ask her WHY she thinks that way. Be calm, dont act like you are talking back, ask as if you honestly dont understand why (since you probably dont anyway).

Ineeitably I guarantee it WILL end with "Because those are MY rules and you live in my house" or some variant thereof. But It WILL make her think. And if you keep asking and she is unable to find a real reason, she'll realize you are going to do it anyway and accept it.

Theres books inciting hatred or wrong acts, however. D&D books are not part of that category. Books that list text such as

And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea

That is inciting hatred. D&D on the other hand, does not.

I still contend that these are very good sources of information to educate people on why dnd isn't evil and is actually good for you.

So buy a copy anyway and hide or keep it at the place you game each week. What she does not know will not get you into trouble.

Personally, I'd recomment to buy to book and dón't hide it. Show her what choice you made and that it's yóur choice. If you hide it and she finds it, you acted like you knew you did something wrong. If you just read in it and carry the book along as if it's the most common thing in the world, it's an whole other story. :D

Solution to parents believing that D&D is evil:

Start dressing in all black and convert to Wicca. Dramatize Wiccan rituals a bit and make your parents think you've been possessed or something. When your parents call a psychiatrist/exorcist, tell them that you want to cast spells and such and that your parents denying you the outlet of D&D caused you to convert.

Once they buy you the core rules, go back to acting normal, and expand your collection with allowance money. :D
