| Bafaap03-22-07, 10:50 AM | I'n currently playing in a campaign in which our DM gives us quite a lot freedom of movement, but how far should I go in exploiting it? I'm already building two castles which are both payed by the government because of strategical advantages, and I have 2,5times as much money as I should have because of lots luck. I'm lvl 8 and I had an equal amount on money on hand as a co-player's equipment was worth. My two artifacts not included. So what should I do, continue to enrich myself, or stop exploiting my freedom? PS: non of my actions influence the storyline, I just do what I'm expected to do (except for the unreasonable amounts of money). And my alignment is CN. |

Marry a beautiful princess? Do you have anything in your background that would motivate you? Dream up what your character would want, and work towards getting it. If you save the world a couple of times along the way, that's a bonus! |
| DyloniusFunk03-22-07, 11:11 AM | How does the rest of the party feel about all this. Are they being over shadoweded by you and your stuff? if so i would back off for a bit and let the others get some time in. If everyone is equal than it's really up to how you feel your characters motivations and goals would affect his decisions. Two castles and artifacts are quite a bit of wealth. If it were me i would back fof for a bit and see what kind of adventures the DM can provide with all the material you've given him. |
| Kursk03-22-07, 11:25 AM | Always exploit a Monty Haul campaign. Otherwise, what good is it? |
| DreadArchon03-22-07, 02:00 PM | Build Gundams. We have golems, we have flying creatures, and we have Golem Armor, so why not make Flying Golem Armor? |

If you save the world a couple of times along the way, that's a bonus! I do have a couple of goals: owning a castle* owning a city owning a large compagnie owning a private armie becomming inmortal* ruling the world owning a guild win the war against the drow we're fighting kill Hiladir (drow leader, lvl 60 character, was our boss) * = already completed that goal but some of them are a little impossible Build Gundams. We have golems, we have flying creatures, and we have Golem Armor, so why not make Flying Golem Armor? If you mean the Gundams from Gundam Wing, then no way I will. That's just too sick and overpowerd. I'm a ranger archer, with favoured enemy elf, fighting in an elf-against-drow-war. So I pretty much own everything. But so do my teammates. How does the rest of the party feel about all this. Are they being over shadoweded by you and your stuff? if so i would back off for a bit and let the others get some time in. If it were me i would back fof for a bit and see what kind of adventures the DM can provide with all the material you've given him. The castles are not entirely mine, but it was my idea and I'm trying to buy the other ones out of it. The artifacts are not really combatoverpowering, but more usefull in the far future or useless. This are the artifacts, or at least how we named them: 1 Amulet of immortality unless you're killed: you do'nt age anymore. 2 Farmer's amulet of weather: you can change the weather type, but only like a peasent predicts weather; if you want it to rain, it'll rain in about two days. And it has one very big disadvantage: the eye of the storm always goes your way. I'm not wearing that one, because I've to make some strange saves if I unequip the first amulet. And I'm not overshadowing the other players, I need them as much as they need me; for some reason I always end up in the middle of the fight while I'm an archer. I take out the Drow, they do the healing and battle everything else, which is quite a lot, because the Drow have hired humans and Orcs and strange other beings too. So I'm not overshadowing them, does that mean I can still exploit my freedom for personal gain? I do waist a lot of money, because I've bought a large house with everything included for 7000 gp, have 2 servants and I've already paid them for an entire year and I give some money to they merchants guild every now and then. |
| DarkNick03-22-07, 10:33 PM | I still don't really get what your question is. Are you more worried about being the centre of attention? Are you worried that you hog the spotlight. Do you feel guilty that you have more than the other players through taking advantage of the dms leniency? Are you being greedy and feel guilty about it? What's the problem? What freedom are you talking about? Is this an alignment issue. Give me and example of your 'freedom'. If you mean that the dm does not railroad you, you're just playing the game. I thought that was just something most of us take for granted. Ofcourse you can act for personal gain, why not? If that what interests you go ahead. You seem to be surprised that you have what most players have - freedom to buy a house if you want to. :thinks: You basically said that your team mates take on the small fry (servants of the drow) while you kill all the tough stuff (drow). You have enough petty cash worth at least what another players equipment is worth in total not even counting your two artifacts so your wealth is significanty more than the other players. Yeah, sounds like you're on even footing there  . All I am hearing is "help, I'm more wealthy than everyone else and I love it but I feel guilty because of it but don't really want to give up my weath gathering" |
| Bafaap03-23-07, 02:27 AM | The kind of freedom I have is almost unlimited, I can do whatever I want as long as it's realistic. So I do whatever I want. I pretty much do everything thay increase my wealth. I've money to waist, so I'm the only player with a house. There's a reason wy my friends call me the lootmaster;) The drow and their servants we face are usually striketeams, with one drow leader one level higher than the rest of the team, so the humans and orcs are the same level as the drow are, their not the weaklings. But should I continue to enrich myself, because I can and my DM let's me, or should I calm down a bit give some more to the other players to compensate my extraordaniry wealth and should I stop abusing the government? My friends do the same, but they just don't do it as efficient as I'm doing. One of them is trying to set up an tavern, which should give him a steady income. Mine is just based on loot. |
| AffableDoomwalker03-23-07, 02:48 AM | I find it ironic, you're given a massive amount of freedom, and you're asking us what you should do with it. If I were in your position, I'd do whatever I wanted, honestly. You should too. Also, I'm a bit confused about the specifics of your question... it seems to me you're just asking "Should I make more money? Or slow down and let the little people catch up?" Either or. Do what you want. |
| Prince_of_Murder_Kinghall03-23-07, 09:30 PM | I played (and sadly ruined) a game like this: I was part of a squad during a large war between two nations. My squad lost contact with the rest of the army we where fighting for and wondered the plague ridden forest filled with enemies who attacked us at every moment, squad leader died and I found myself in his place. Anyway we find a small fort the prince of the enemy nation was holding (we did not know he was there) we could not attack it so we waited out side taking out their patrols. after a wile the rest of our army shows up and attacks but the defenders launch a counter attack leaving them exposed as our squad took it commando stile. We found the prince wounded from an earlier battle along with a healthy sum of money. I kept the prince hostage until one army was willing to trade me for something i liked (lordship over some land). After the trade I used my small lordship to get enough money and build a near by city on the shore that doubled as a pirate city I used to laugh raids on my enemy's trade routs until they bowed down to me or I got enough money to invade them (this was after the king died and the nation was falling apart). EDIT: the prince was some sort of son of a god king who was needed by either nation to forfill some sort of desteny witch is why no one wanted him dead. |
| Archangel_Tyrael03-24-07, 03:21 AM | There's always the Manuals and Tomes that give inherent bonuses. 137,500 gold pieces each. _____x6 825000 gold pieces for all of them...+5 to all skills |
