| hollow_ghost08-19-06, 11:31 PM | PHB as written: "The runes detonate when read, dealing 6d6 points of force damage. Anyone next to the runes (close enough to read them) takes the full damage with no saving throw, any other creature within 10 feet of the runes is entitled to a Reflex save for half damage." Question: What happens if your wallpaper is an Explosive Rune? When detonated, is the creature 30ft away affected anyhow? |
| Steidas08-20-06, 12:53 AM | It doesn´t damage him. |
| Pegasos98908-20-06, 06:00 AM | Well, the spell makes so small runes that it can only be read very close. Were there to be a larger version, it would not affect anyone that far. |

| IceFractal08-20-06, 11:33 PM | A nasty trap you can make with Explosive Runes: Explosive Runes does force damage, so ethereal runes still damage material people. Therefore, the trap is simply a room, which on the ethereal plane is filled with dozens of (floating) pieces of paper with runes (high CL) on them. When the trap is triggered, the effect is a Dispel Magic with minimum CL. This sets off the runes, and suddenly the very air around the victims explodes! End result, lots of force damage, and even if the trap is detected people may mistake it for a weak dispelling trap. And if someone has turned Ethereal to navigate the dungeon more easily ... well, they'd better not read anything. |

Their effects extend onto the Ethereal Plane from the Material Plane, but not vice versa. An ethereal creature can’t attack material creatures, and spells you cast while ethereal affect only other ethereal things. Certain material creatures or objects have attacks or effects that work on the Ethereal Plane. So unfortunately, ethereal exploding runes only explode on the ethereal plane. |
