Fast Healing and travel question [Archive] - Wizards Community

My character's managed to get ahold of fast healing 2 as an extraordinary ability.

Now my question is, does this fast healing heal the non-lethal damage taken from hustling and forced marches? From what I can tell it does as the damage is not specified as being from starvation, thirst or suffocation which fast healing does not deal with. I can see no reason why it should not since it is said to work like natural healing. But since healing the damage taken from hustling and forced marching means you do not become fatigued this would mean I could hustle for 16 hours a day (with forced march) and still get 8hours rest meaning no penalties for travelling in this manner and so I wanted to make sure of it.

Now if this is right he's also got a base move of 55 feet (Don't ask, it's compicated) which would mean his overland travel speed is 5 1/2 miles per hour or 11 miles when hustling. Doing this for 16 hours a day means that he could theoretically walk 176 miles in a single day without skimping on rest or taking any penalties whatsoever. It's unlikely he'll ever have reason to I just want to know if my thinking on all of this was correct. So, thoughts? Comments?

Yes, this does mean that you suffer no penalties for Forced Marches. Additionally I recommend a Ring of Sustenance to improve your travel time. This is the cheapest way to add 4 hours to your traveling. However, if you want to purchase even more traveling time you could pick up the Tomb Tainted feat line which will eliminate your need for sleep entirely.

Of course, the biggest limiting factor to traveling vast distances is that the rest of the party is probably unlikely to be able to do so. So, unless you're character has a plot based reason, or just enjoys wandering around on his own, it doesn't amount to much.

Yeah, I know, as I said, it's unlikely I'll ever actually use this extraordinary capacity for travel. It's just something that crossed my mind the other day and I wanted to make sure I had it right. Thanks for confirming.

Actually, it won't stop you from becoming fatigued, as the damage is still dealt, then immediately healed.

You stop being fatigued when the nonlethal damage is healed, so most of the time you'll be fine.

You'll be fatigued for 0-2 rounds at the start of every hour for which you fail the CON check. I recommend pausing for 10-20 seconds to take a drink of water.

Now, when this type of thing gets REALLY twisted is when you have a carrying capacity sufficient to do this while carrying the team. (level 17 caster with shapechange -- gold dragon)

Couldn't the party just Teleport at that point?

Most of the time, but not all the time.

Most notably, you need to have at LEAST a reliable description for Greater Teleport -- that can be hard to come by, depending on circumstances.

Yeah, at the moment the party's primary mode of transport is our wizard who teleports us around. This was more or less just the result of me wondering exactly how far I could stretch that 55ft base land speed. Actually, with boots of spiderclimb meaning he can climb vertical cliffs, woodland stride meaning he's not impeded by undergrowth, darkvision, maxed ranks in survival and endure elements as a preparable spell I've actually created a fairly impressive explorer without even meaning to. I like the idea of the ring of sustenance too, though something about the idea of walking 242 miles in a day (11miles/hour(hustle speed)x22) without becoming fatigued seems... odd :P

Hehe, I can top that. Psionic monk all of the way :D

I had a base move of like 150ft. I had a ring of sustenance and some other cool abilities (dimmension door being one of them).

It took me like 2 days to get myself to the other side of my GM's world.
