| mindintellect02-21-07, 09:52 PM | I really want to play around with my PCs, so can you all help me make the absolute fastest character possible? This could be speed or just general quickness but I want it so fast the PCs will go crazy! Any level really works for me so yeah as long as it's legal. |
| Kaishi_Kyouki02-21-07, 09:54 PM | I would go to the character optimization board for that. |
| Zankue02-21-07, 10:01 PM | Ok well I'm thinking that you mean that you wanna be able to move across three boards length wise so um for that I'd say first of all be an elf (dex bonus) than take a barbarian level first level (fast movement) get boots of springing and striding as soon as you can, and than become a scout... (don't they get a speed boost too?) if you want you can get the run feat so that you can every now and then you can show off your Uber speed |
| mindintellect02-21-07, 10:22 PM | Barbarian Scout Boots of Springing and Striding Run Feat There has to be more stuff than that! |
| darkdragonk02-21-07, 10:23 PM | Level 100000000000000 monk. Althow you would probaly burn up after taking a step |
| mindintellect02-21-07, 10:25 PM | A monk would sure do it but it would have to be at such a high level that it could take the entire party in like two turns. I want something that progresses a bit faster |
| Xavon02-21-07, 10:26 PM | Monk gets +50 Speed over their 20 levels (I don't have my PH on hand so I can't tell you what level exactly). Sprint feat from Complete Warrior gives +5 Speed while lightly emcumbered. There are some fairly balanced custom PrCs here that give speed boosts. |
| Elemental_Elf02-21-07, 10:31 PM | Be a Catfolk monk! :D |
| NatchFeral02-21-07, 10:40 PM | Have a base 40ft move, take Blade Dancer from OA, get 120 ft move. Haste + Run feat gets you to 750 ft running. A level of Barbarian makes this 160 ft/800 ft. |
| Tyler Do'Urden02-21-07, 10:57 PM | Don't forget to take the sudden leap maneuver. It lets you jump as a swift action, and since your move speed is going to stooopid, you're going to have a high Jump check no matter what you do. |
| mindintellect02-21-07, 11:05 PM | So what's the best route to Blade Dancer? I suppose Barbarian is good but if i take scout or monk it'll take forever |
| Pangeon02-21-07, 11:12 PM | Play a Varag. It's a goblinoid race (3 racial HD, +2 LA,) from MMIV with a 60 ft move, and on top of that you get the Spring Attack and Run feats for free. One level of the Wildshape variant Ranger, one level of Barbarian, three levels of Scout, the Dash feat, Boots of Striding and Springing and the Quick trait will get you 105 ft. move (x5 run) at ECL 10. I'm sure there are plenty of other ways to boost your speed in another 10 levels, too. |
| mindintellect02-21-07, 11:20 PM | Thanks that's awesome! |
| Fireclave02-21-07, 11:24 PM | Awakened Cheetah Cleric 1/ Barbarian 1/ Monk 12 with the Celerity domain, Dash, Run, Natural Talent, Speed of Thought, and a Tail Ring of Striding and Springing ECL 20 Base Speed 125ft Hasted 155ft Running (while Hasted) 755ft Sprinting (while Hasted) 1550ft That's the best I can do with the materials I have at hand. I'm sure others can chesse this out more. |
| Darth Sephiroth02-21-07, 11:32 PM | Awakened Cheetah Cleric 1/ Barbarian 1/ Monk 12 with the Celerity domain, Dash, Run, Natural Talent, Speed of Thought, and a Tail Ring of Striding and Springing ECL 20 Base Speed 125ft Hasted 155ft Running (while Hasted) 755ft Sprinting (while Hasted) 1550ft That's the best I can do with the materials I have at hand. Take the Regional Feat for an extra +10 ft speed |
| Fireclave02-21-07, 11:45 PM | Doesn't work, I think the monk boost is lost on a lawfull character. Chaos Monk would work and you'd qualify for the Blade Dancer feat with it though. Take the Regional Feat for an extra +10 ft speed Actually, it does work. Ex-barbarians keep their fast movement and Ex-monks retain all of their class abilities, so it doesn't matter which of the two classes this char takes first, though dipping into barbarian and cleric first would be the most ideal since that allow you to keep progressing as a monk into epic to accumulate more speed. Ex-Barbarians A barbarian who becomes lawful loses the ability to rage and cannot gain more levels as a barbarian. He retains all the other benefits of the class (damage reduction, fast movement, trap sense, and uncanny dodge). Ex-Monks A monk who becomes nonlawful cannot gain new levels as a monk but retains all monk abilities. Like a member of any other class, a monk may be a multiclass character, but multiclass monks face a special restriction. A monk who gains a new class or (if already multiclass) raises another class by a level may never again raise her monk level, though she retains all her monk abilities. |
| CowMasterTrojan02-21-07, 11:50 PM | Do all the mentioned crazy things with classes above, except make it a centaur and give them horse shoes of speed. |
| Maekrix_Waere02-22-07, 12:10 AM | Be a Paragon (ELBH) which, according to WoTC, is only ECL +10 (so....low....for....bonuses........) and it will triple whatever base speeds you have. Then, be a Varag Barb 1/ Monk all other levels. Your base speed will be 140 ft. before any bonuses from Monk or Barb. Also, ASAP, get the Boots of Swiftness from the ELHB, which will further double your BLS to 280 ft. before adding Barb and Monk. Now, activate the Boots' haste effect, and start running. Assuming +30 ft. cumulative from Monk and Barb, thats a TLS of 340 ft. (some of those bonuses might not stack, you'll pardon me if they don't.) which means your sprint speed is around 193.2 Miles per Hour (don't hold me to that). My Opinion-At that speed, you would start taking bludgeoning damage from air resistance. |
| Needle02-22-07, 12:11 AM | I think: A Centaur Monk Run feat Dash feat Horseshoes of speed. There ya go. |
| Andrew_98002-22-07, 12:38 AM | A Centaur Monk Run feat Dash feat Horseshoes of speedPlay in the blackmoor campeign. Monk of the fallen star get better fast move. Sightless sister Prc also gets move bonus, and the extra step feat adds 10'. plus all of the above. |
| unusualsuspect02-22-07, 12:48 AM | Hmmm. White Dragon Wyrmling (ECL 5)/Barbarian 1/Cleric 4/Blade Dancer 10 Similar items/feats as those presented by Fireclave. White Dragon starts with a base speed of 60 feet on land, but the real treat is that it starts with a base speed of 150 feet in flight, with a decent (average) maneuverability. Base Speed 150 ft. Blade Dancer: 450 ft. Barbarian: 460 ft Celerity Domain: 470 ft. Haste: 500 ft. This means that at ANY point in the day, even in an antimagic field, this character can movie 470 feet with each move action, 940 with two, and an astounding 2350 feet in a single run action, or over 390 feet per second. This isn't even CLOSE to optimized, really, since we haven't taken into account things like the Shadow template, which (if I recall correctly) gives you 150% your base speed. Since it's an LA template, and I'm not using LA buyoff in my calculations, we'd have to drop a level of something... Blade Dancer it is. You lose out on an increase of 50 feet to the base speed to gain, using D&D math, 75 feet. In fact, my above calculations didn't include either Dash or Speed of Thought. Nor does it take into account the Draconomicon feat that increases fly speed by 20 feet and other speeds by 10 feet. I wonder if we'd be able to actually get all these feats, AND take the feats needed for Blade Dancer... ahah! I know! Cleric 2/Fighter 2 probably covers it. So... Shadow White Dragon (ECL 7, i believe)/Barbarian 1/Cleric 2/Fighter 2/Ardent 1/Blade Dancer 7. Base Speed: 150 ft. Blade Dancer: 400 ft. Shadow: 475 ft. Dash: 480 ft. Celerity: 490 ft. Speed of Thought: 500 ft. Improved Speed (Draconomicon): 520 ft. Ardent: 530 ft. Haste: 560 ft. Double Moving/Charging: 1120 ft. Run: 2800 ft. But what about maneuverability, huh? Greater Pectoral of Maneuverability increases that so-so (average) maneuverability into that sweet-spot (PERFECT) maneuverability, which means that when you're doing those double-moves, you're capable of stopping, turning, and swirling on a dime attached to a speeding arrow. And this could doubtlessly be improved. I think someone on the CO boards did something along these lines, but used some obscure arcane spell that increased flight speed 10-fold, but only if moving in a straight line. If it (Flight of the Arrow, wasn't it? Hmm) stacked with the Run action (and I'm pretty sure it did), then you can take my previous calculation and increase it to 28000 ft in a round, or just over 5 miles per 6 seconds, or to be more specific, approximately .884 miles in a single second, or approximately 4666.7 ft per second, or approximately 3181.8 miles per hour. When an NPC is capable of going over Mach 4 (Using the number for 15 degree Celcius temperature in the atmosphere, before I get jumped on), that's bound to get some attention... if the sonic boom doesn't cause the offedning players' heads to explode. I think the best thing about this is that the White Dragon's land speed and swim speed will both be as follows: 60 ft base Blade Dancer 160 Shadow 190 Barbarian 200 Celerity 210 Speed of Thought 220 Improved Speed 230 Dash 235 Ardent 245 Haste 275 ft This Tiny white dragon can use the Run action on the ground or in the water to move 1375 feet in 6 seconds, or approximately 156.25 miles per hour. Even though this next mode of movement is the slowest, I think it is ultimately the most impressive: Burrow speed 30 ft base Blade Dancer 80 ft Shadow 95 ft Barbarian 105 ft Celerity 115 ft Dash 120 ft Speed of Thought 130 ft Ardent 140 ft. Haste 170 ft. That's right, folks. This Tiny wyrmling white dragon is capable of burrowing in soft sand in a single move action faster then a halfling 20th level monk can go in 2 move actions. A note of relative importance: I did not check many sources, but as far as I know, all the separate sources of speed increases stack (in terms of what type of bonus they give to speed). Another point of great importance is that some of the abilities I named may not work for fly speed, swim speed, or burrow speed... Looking at the SRD, I see that Barbarian Fast Movement only helps land speed, and I wouldn't be surprised if Dash did the same. Ultimately, though, the real workhorses for this build - The Shadow template and the Blade Dancer PrC - work absolutely fine with any and all modes of movement, and that still leaves us with a creature capable of burrowing 145 ft with a single move action. |

I'm not seeing it, either in the ELH or in the 3.5 update booklet, |
| unusualsuspect02-22-07, 01:42 AM | Having checked my sources, I've ended up with these base speeds before Haste: Land Speed: 245 ft (60 ft -> 90 ft[shadow] ->190 ft +10[Celerity] +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +10[Barbarian] +5[Dash] +10[Improved Speed]) Fly Speed: [b]520 ft (150 ft ->225 ft[shadow] ->475 ft +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +5[Dash] +20[Improved Speed]) Burrow Speed: [b]130 ft (30 ft ->45 ft[shadow] -> 95 ft +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +5[Dash] +10[Improved Speed]) Swim Speed: [b]225 (60 ft -> 90 ft[shadow] ->190 ft +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +5[Dash] +10[Improved Speed]) With Haste up, add +30 ft to that. This uses the following build: Shadow White Dragon Wyrmling (ECL 7)/Barbarian 1/Cleric 1/Fighter 2/Ardent 2/Blade Dancer 7 Domain: Celerity Mantles: Freedom, Combat, Time Feats, in order taken: Run, Improved Speed (Draconomicon), Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Weapon Focus (bite), Practiced Manifester, Dash, Speed of Thought. Single Magic Item: Greater Pectoral of Maneuverability - Draconomicon, 90k, increase maneuverability by 2 steps, 5 lbs. Ring of Constant Haste ends up being 120k gold using the formula, but its a custom item, so that, uh, probably shouldn't be allowed. Edit: Let's say we're trying to maximize, oh, a single speed to really, REALLY get that sonic boom going. By using a Young White Wyrm, and redoing the build/feats, you end up with this: Land Speed: 220 ft (60 ft -> 90 ft[shadow] ->170 ft[bladedancer] +10[Celerity] +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +10[Improved Speed]) Fly Speed: 705 ft (200 ft ->300 ft[shadow] ->665 ft[bladedancer] +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +20[Improved Speed]) Burrow Speed: 115 ft (30 ft ->45 ft[shadow] -> 85 ft[bladedancer] +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +10[Improved Speed]) Swim Speed: 200 (60 ft -> 90 ft[shadow] ->170 ft[bladedancer] +10[Speed of Thought] +10[Freedom] +10[Improved Speed]) Your burrow speed is still faster then a 20th level human monk's landspeed, and unlike a monk's landspeed (an enhancement bonus), Haste gives all of your movement speeds +30. This bad boy, hasted, now can fly at approximately... *giggle* [b]420 miles per hour when "running". He can't keep that up all that long, of course... Hustling, though, he's still going about 168 miles per hour, and even at a leisurely pace, he's going 84 miles per hour and can keep that up 8 hours a day without breaking a sweat. All that, with Good maneuverability. |
| nephsytis02-22-07, 09:25 AM | greater teleport. |
| Vintar02-22-07, 10:53 AM | Don't forget to take action surge to be able to boost your speed by another move action. (does take 2 action points) |
| Zoycitenega02-22-07, 11:25 AM | feral creature(+10 to speed) base speed of 40 + 3rd level scout become a monk Haste Trait Quick Non-spellcasting Ranger variant gains fast movement at 6th level finally, become a barbarian. |
| johnkretzer02-22-07, 12:12 PM | In 3.0 a Psychic warrior with nothing but Speed of thought could move about 360' at 20th level. Though that doesn't work anymore because that feat no longerstacks. |
| Dei02-22-07, 12:17 PM | Try playing a Xeph from Expanded Psionics, they can get a +30ft boost to their move speed 3/day. Give him levels of monk, barbarian and scout and boots of haste as well as a ring or wand or something of expeditious retreat. You're already looking at a move speed of something in the region of 150ft, with the run feat that's like 750ft/round or about 125 ft/second. Meep meep. |
| DarknessEternal02-22-07, 12:56 PM | Haste, Blade Dancer, Scout, Monk, and Boots of Striding and Springing are all Enhancement bonuses. They do not stack with each other. |
| Magrus02-22-07, 01:10 PM | Haste, Blade Dancer, Scout, Monk, and Boots of Striding and Springing are all Enhancement bonuses. They do not stack with each other. Now you just ruined my fun for the day. I was going to hope someone would come back and say their DM had laughed at them. :weep: |
| Dei02-22-07, 01:49 PM | Haste, Blade Dancer, Scout, Monk, and Boots of Striding and Springing are all Enhancement bonuses. They do not stack with each other. Good point, just came up with my idea off the top of my head but it's still decently valid. Start with a Xeph, base move 30ft. Racial +10 ft for three rounds (additional +10 for every four levels above 1st.) (Competence Bonus) Expeditious Retreat +30ft 1min/level (enhancement bonus) Level of Barbarian +10ft (unnamed bonus) Already looking at 80ft per round for 3 rounds minimum with run feat that's 400 feet of running. |
| unusualsuspect02-22-07, 02:49 PM | Unless Blade Dancer was updated to 3.5 in that one issue of Dragon, I don't see anywhere in my Oriental Adventures book where it states that their Fast Movement (su) is anything but an unnamed bonus - in fact, it doesn't really follow the rules for bonuses at all, but instead works as a MULTIPLIER, hence why it stacks just so with the Shadow Creature template from Manual of the Planes. You are right about the other bonuses, though. |
| snakeman83002-22-07, 03:31 PM | Monks speed bonus is an enhancement bonus Haste is an enhancement bonus horseshoes of speed is an enhancement bonus boots of striding and sprining is an enhancement bonus. Enhancemnt bonuses do not stack. I like the awakened cheetah idea. Give it levels of monk +1 level of Barbarian. If you could find a way to give it quickness like a choker, that would just be insanely fast. Or you could just do Pun-pun. |
| unusualsuspect02-22-07, 04:05 PM | Monks speed bonus is an enhancement bonus Haste is an enhancement bonus horseshoes of speed is an enhancement bonus boots of striding and sprining is an enhancement bonus. If you could find a way to give it quickness like a choker, that would just be insanely fast. Or you could just do Pun-pun. It certainly is more viable quickly, and probably can actually be used for combat... unlike my dragon build, which (while having pretty decent saves and OKish HP) doesn't have much in the way of offensive capability. The awakened cheetah could definitely be improved, of course - the Shadow Creature template, Blade Dancer levels, Quick trait, etc - but it would be a lot of fun to play, especially if you get Power Attack and Leap Attack involved. Also - Add Singh Rager 4 to the build for Pounce. Also: Pun-pun is never, ever, EVER anything but a theoretical exercise concerning the abuse of a mechanic that should never have existed. People asking for an optimization of a concept (in this case, the "fastest creature possible") should never be answered with the Pun-pun build. It shouldn't be used to "punish" DMs whose houserules you don't like, either, since that's just stupid... but that's another topic entirely. |
| EvilVegan02-22-07, 04:25 PM | Action Surge would be good too, gives you an extra standard or move action. Takes action points though. |
| mindintellect02-22-07, 09:51 PM | Haste, Blade Dancer, Scout, Monk, and Boots of Striding and Springing are all Enhancement bonuses. They do not stack with each other. Does that mean all sources of increased speed don't stack? I still need this guy to be legal so.... would barb -> blade dancer still be legal? Or for that matter any of the stuff people have been suggesting? |

Speed of Thought grants an insight bonus to speed Dash is an unnamed bonus Run doesn't directly affect your base speed, so it works reguardless Haste, Blade Dancer, Scout, Monk, and Boots of Striding and Springing, as DarknessEternal pointed out, are all enhancement bonuses and therefore don't stack :( My awakened cheetah idea is still valid The speed bonus from the Celerity domain is unnamed, so it stacks The speed bonus from the barbarian's fast movement ability is unnamed, so it stacks I'm unfamiliar with some of the other sources presented here, so I won't comment on those. Other things that would help: A four levels of Psychic Warrior or five levels of Psion can get you access to the Burst power, which grants you an extra move action. It's more than a dip, but still an option. If you have a pair of Cryan Gliding Boots (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cw/20061120a) and access to the Gust of Wind spell, you can double you speed for that round. If you use action points, the Action Surge feat grants an additional standard action or move action. If you have access to rage, the Raging Luck feat can help mitigate Action Surge's cost. |

Can you point to your source for reasoning that Blade Dancer's fast movement ability is an enhancement bonus? I don't have the 3.5 update to OA from that one Dragon magazine, so if it mentions it there, I'll take your word for it... But in the 3.0 OA, I don't see ANYTHING indicating the bonus is anything but a multiplier to your base speed. |
| DarknessEternal02-23-07, 12:15 AM | Can you point to your source for reasoning that Blade Dancer's fast movement ability is an enhancement bonus? I don't have the 3.5 update to OA from that one Dragon magazine Yeah, I got that one wrong. The only errata to Blade Dancer was to change their alignment requirement to any non-chaotic. |
| Maekrix_Waere02-23-07, 12:34 AM | Where do you find the WotC approved LA for the Paragon template? I'm not seeing it, either in the ELH or in the 3.5 update booklet, ECL for a Paragon Mind Player is listed as a 26, and base ECL for a Mind Flayer is 16 (8 HD+8 LA). 26-16=10 |
| breizh2302-23-07, 12:55 AM | Burst is enhancement as well, but Skate would provide 15ft. circumstantial when going downhill (and 15ft. enhancement, but that wouldn't matter). So one level of Psychic Warrior or Psion could pick up Skate (up to +15ft.), and Speed of Thought (+10 insight). |
| RellenMarn02-23-07, 01:36 AM | Well a simple way is to cast Phantom Steed with a caster level of 14 plus. This gives you a steed that lasts for 14 plus hours, can fly and has a base movement of 240', so run 960'. Or you can go Druid and take the even tastier Phantom Stag. Of course you might not strictly count it as the character's speed, but it might as well be. |
| Nathreet02-23-07, 01:45 AM | The barbarian's +10' is not an enhancement bonus. Go with that. Who says you have to walk? A pixie (LA 4) gets 60' fly (good, i.e., like a hummingbird). Plus a whole lot of other VERY nice abilities. I'm sure there are other creatures that are even faster. The difference between fly (good) and fly(perfect) is that you must spend 5' of movement to reverse or change directions, and you fly upwards at only half speed. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/sprite.htm#pixie expeditious retreat grants an easy +30' enhancement from a 1st level spell. A rod of lesser quicken (35,000gp, 3/day, max 3rd level spells) and a single level of wizard would give you an easy +30'. That's 100' so far. Or get multiple rods of regular quicken (75,500gp each, 3/day) and 7 levels of wizard. Go to town with quicken dimension door. Pop yourself anywhere within 680' AND still get a full action. Not to mention all the other possible quickened spells. Like haste or greater invisibility. |
| blackjackg02-23-07, 02:16 AM | Anthropomorphic Magebred Valenar Riding Horse (Valenar Riding Horse and Magebred Template from Eberron campaign setting and Anthropomorphic Animal template from Savage Species) is no-LA, two racial levels, base speed 70. Massively broken, made from the combination of two or three things that should never have been combined. My speedy build was Racial 2, Druidic Avenger (Unearthed Arcana) 1, Cleric of Fharlanghn 2, Fighter 2, Scout 3, Blade Dancer 10. If I remember correctly, that gives you a speed of 280 or 310 before spells and items. |
| Karish02-23-07, 06:27 PM | Ex-Barbarian/Monk Run Feat Imprived Initiative Feat Quick Draw Feat Quick Trait (UA) Aggessive Trait (UA) Boots of Striding and Springing II feat, QD feat, and Agg Trait aren't speed, but add an element of quickness. |
| InterSilva02-24-07, 12:00 AM | Be a Paragon (ELBH) which, according to WoTC, is only ECL +10 (so....low....for....bonuses........) and it will triple whatever base speeds you have. My Opinion-At that speed, you would start taking bludgeoning damage from air resistance. Terminal Velocity for a human is about 125 mph. I'm pretty sure that would hold in this situation. |
| Archangel_Tyrael02-24-07, 03:37 AM | Terminal Velocity for a human is about 125 mph. I'm pretty sure that would hold in this situation. But humans aren't running while they're free-falling. |
| unusualsuspect02-24-07, 11:25 AM | Plus, for a skydiver, the only thing pulling the skydiver towards greater speed is the force of gravity. A character capable of running thousands of feet in 6 seconds is likely operating with access to a generator of force significantly stronger than the constant force of gravity. Besides which, this is is a land where 100+ ton Collosal Wyrms fly without any magical support whatsoever. Moving (or flying) faster then a human could fall is comparably a piece of cake. |
| Saytr02-24-07, 02:53 PM | I really want to play around with my PCs, so can you all help me make the absolute fastest character possible? This could be speed or just general quickness but I want it so fast the PCs will go crazy! Any level really works for me so yeah as long as it's legal. Throw a Choker with PC levels at them, the extra standard action evey round will annoy them to no end. Maybe a Warlock with the Summon Swarm thing twice per round. Swarms are a good "go crazy" type of encounter. |
| kshade02-24-07, 05:16 PM | If you need extreme speed for 1d4+1 rounds, go for time stop. |
| InterSilva02-24-07, 09:52 PM | Plus, for a skydiver, the only thing pulling the skydiver towards greater speed is the force of gravity. Touché. |

| Drausktanchache02-25-07, 12:54 AM | If you really want to have fun, give a character, like a monk, blink, say it is a human with these bonuses. -2 Dex -2 Str -2 Wis Loss of human feat, and skill points Inherent bonus: Psionic Blink at will (recharge 1 round/ 50 foot radius)- psionic to keep anti-magic, if they have it. They become phisically weaker, in order to allow themselves to, move around at an accelerated speed. This may be a very interesting twist on say a fighter, or something, like a thief... :schemes: |
| Maekrix_Waere02-25-07, 01:16 AM | Terminal Velocity for a human is about 125 mph. I'm pretty sure that would hold in this situation.   Who said anything about a human? I said Varag. With all the stuff I mentioned, a Human would be running at only about 136.4 mph. Which is, relatively, not much higher than terminal velocity. Also, I made a math error, the creature I proposed would have a TLS of 420 ft. and would run at 238.6 mph. I wrote down 140 ft. when it should have been 180 ft. |
| jeffseadot02-25-07, 01:43 AM | Ask your DM to adopt a house rule where all characters get +5 to their base land speed for every 1 in their dexterity modifier. I actually tried that once (the logic is plenty sound: dexterity is a measure of quickness, so a more dextrous person would move faster)... the rogue spring attacking from 50 feet away quickly put an end to *that* nonsense. |
| NerdNumber102-25-07, 10:54 AM | Check at the Pun-Pun (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=491801)thread. It has a way to get invinent speed, actions, and reach. I know pun-pun is not allowed by any sane DM, but it is the most optimized character in existance. |
| Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi02-25-07, 01:14 PM | I'd recommend a werecheetah xeph with the feat Speed of Thought. That'd be +40 to your base land speed (or 70). You also get sprint, allowing you to move at 10 times your speed once every hour. And with run you can move 5 times your speed the rest of the time. Tack on the monk/scout/barbarian levels, the boots of striding and springing, and haste/expeditious retreat. Boom. Just call him Sonic. |

To be specific, my complete and utter distaste for anyone who suggests Pun-Pun for any and all optimization requests. *sigh* Sorry, but Pun Pun is optimazation's greatest champion and greatest failure. It shows us that there is a line none should cross and the dangerous line between order and chaos that we all walk. If you want to bend the rules to your every whim, use Pun Pun. Maybe I'll make Pun Pun a deity of rule manipulation and the pursuit of power. |

| NerdNumber102-25-07, 06:44 PM | There are divine abilities that increase speed, but the fastest way from point A to point B is teleportation. With summons, construct, and undead you can make your presense felt in several places at once. |
| Nathreet02-25-07, 07:49 PM | x10 for Cheetah's Speed (Complete Divine) x10 for Fly like an Arrow (Dragon 308) multipliers don't multiply eachother, they add. That alone drops the speed down to ~780mph or ~6800 feet per round. Plus you have to make sure all the bonuses actually stack. |

Plus you have to make sure all the bonuses actually stack. Well, actually, I don't have to make sure of anything  . That's not my work. I was just posting that quote, and those links, to help you guys find a few more bits and pieces to add. (Also, as that post was made in July '05, I'd say the chance that a few things have changed is pretty likely, possibly causing bonus type conflicts.) So there ya go. My philanthropic moment for today. |

Plus you have to make sure all the bonuses actually stack. In DnD, only non-real multipliers "add". Things such as distance and weight are multiplied normally. The rule "two doublings equal a tripling" is only for stuff like critical threat range and other such things (and since 3.5 you can't even "double" threat range twice). That's why the speed is what it was. |
| mobius270203-05-07, 12:09 AM | The speed bonus from the Celerity domain is unnamed, so it stacks The speed bonus from the barbarian's fast movement ability is unnamed, so it stacks From SRD A barbarian’s land speed is faster than the norm for his race by +10 feet. This benefit applies only when he is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the barbarian’s speed because of any load carried or armor worn. Not sure if I can quote the CD verbatim (Copyright stuff and all)... suffice it to say the Celerity domain power is amazingly similar. So, do these really stack? If your normal speed for your race is 30, then each one would be 40. They each only add +10 over the norm for your race, not +10 over the norm for your race and then another +10 over the norm for a barbarian of your race (or vice-versa). Still, impressive speeds here... |

I'd guess you'd do at least 2d8 sonic damage to anything within 30' of your flight path! Probably more/farther than that! |
| snakeman83003-06-07, 03:40 PM | I think that would be closer to: *Blur goes shooting past* Guard: "What the-" BOOM!!! Guard is deafened for the rest of his life. Edit: Oh yeah, then he gets blasted by the wind into that wall he was standing next to. |
| fiendish_platypus03-06-07, 04:42 PM | My dad is a powergamer, he has a crazy character build, his monk is extremely fast (level 18 [I think] with a speed of like 120, and the run feat), not to mention an incredible grapple,I'm not sure of his build is entirely legal (does fast movement stack?) anyway, the DM allowed it, if he was here, I would ask to see his build, but he's not, so... |
| fiendish_platypus03-06-07, 04:43 PM | Okay, y'know what? Ignore that last post, I just looked at some of this stuff, and well... it's better |

| pookha03-06-07, 07:20 PM | My current character, while not the fastest, is pretty fast when shifting. Ftr 2/Rgr 4/Barb 1/Weretouched Master 5. Longstride shifter with longstride elite. Usually has longstrider spell going as well (lasts 4 hours). Base speed 40+10 from longstrider spell. When shifting has +20 to speed. Dodge, mobility, spring attack, quickdraw, shifter defense, greater shifter defense, healing factor, power attack, cleave. While I could have optimized this even more for speed by taking dash, run, etc., it would not have fit my concept of my character. |
