| Azyriel13103-07-06, 03:15 PM | So recently i was bored and wanted to see how fast of a walk speed i could get a character if hypothetically they can all stack in light or no armor and no carry weight. I came up with 270 and possiably higher. I did this from incarnates chaotic aura +50 duskling +50 sapphire sprint +50 monk lvl 20 +60 scout +20 barbarian +10. 50+50+50+60+20+10+30(human lets say)= 270. Now i am not sure if these are all accurate i got some help from friend on the Incarnum stuff, but i was curious is it actually possiable to do this ? My dm just said he thinks you could, but i don't know could anyone answer this please ? |
| DarknessEternal03-07-06, 05:25 PM | But they don't stack, at least not most of them, so what's the purpose? |
| DeadKeepWalking03-07-06, 05:49 PM | And, if you run, you create a sonic boom. A friend of my did the math, and found out that if you have a move speed of 200 something feet per move action, that you are traveling faster than the speed of sound if you ran. By the time you stopped, the battle will be far away. You would also get annoyed because everything around you is in slow motion all the time. |

I'm not even sure how to respond to the sheer stupidity of this post. This is a joke right? |

| Black Kitten03-07-06, 05:57 PM | Try contracting Cheeta-lycanthropy and try to stay a monk or something else that gives you speed. Use some magic items and you can spring at many, many feets per round :) |
| nodaisho03-07-06, 06:17 PM | try blade dancer, PrC in OA, first level you get increased speed, for a 30ft standard move, it goes from 60 at first level to 90 at 10th. that adds quite a bit of speed. |
| JulesCARV03-07-06, 07:44 PM | Going the speed of sound in a full-round Run action would take a base land speed of approximately 1200 feet, with the Run feat. The 200-300 feet base land speed is still safety. What if you're a Xeph, and you have 18 levels in monk, 1 level in barbarian (you can lose your lawful alignment and keep monk abilities: just can't gain new levels), and you had the ability to cast "expeditious retreat," and you're a nomad psion with the "burst" power, AND you have five dots in Celerity? Okay, the celerity might be going overboard. |
| Asciiman03-08-06, 05:42 AM | Expeditious Retreat and Monk Speed don't stack either. |
| MasterOfPsychic03-08-06, 08:24 AM | Simply be a epic fighter, taking Epic Speed or what it is called as feats... all the time... by level 60, youd run faster than the light... |
| Judging Eagle03-08-06, 11:05 AM | Simply be a epic fighter, taking Epic Speed or what it is called as feats... all the time... by level 60, youd run faster than the light... Except, you know that feats that don't specifically state that they can be taken over and over again and stack can't. This is the Psionic Insight bonus to Speed feat stacking thread all over again, except using spells and abilities that can't stack. So, in light of that I'm guessing the OP also stacks the Str bonuses from gauntlets of ogre str (+2), belt of giant str (+6), Bull's Str (+4) to gain +12 str? You mentioned: +50 incarnates chaotic aura [not sure what this is; is it an enchancment, unamed, sacred, profane, lawful, chaotic, morale, luck, insight or incarnate(?) bonus?] +50 duskling [again not sure] +50 sapphire sprint [not sure either, you must list types of bonuses to make the compliation of different bonuses reliable] +60 monk lvl 20 [enchancement bonus] +20 scout [enhancement bonus, won't stack w/ monk] +10 barbarian [unnamed, one of the few +speed bonuses that is universally stackable] really, you can get +70 movement, +5 with fleet of foot [feat] and say... 30-40 base with a medium or a 'fast' race. So 100-110 movement normally. 105-115 with fleet of foot (useless feat imo). [rest is all utter bullsh*t] 50+50+50+60+20+10+30(human lets say)= 270. Now i am not sure if these are all accurate i got some help from friend on the Incarnum stuff, but i was curious is it actuall Next time list why they can all stack. Adding the same bonuses is pointless since anyone can do anything if they ignore both RAI and RAW. Did you know I can have a fighter that will have a +40 BAB too? If I make him a gestalt fighter//barbarian his BAB will stack! Amazing! |
| Mist of Shadows03-08-06, 08:54 PM | I can have a fighter with a base attack of 40 :) I just take a great wrym red or gold dragon and give him a level of fighter. But seriously please list the type of bonus when you post things. duskling is a race they have a speed ability but it's enhancement Most of the things listed are enhancement. |
| Jherid03-08-06, 09:27 PM | The current speed record is 3,156 mph. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=472241) |

| BW022203-09-06, 08:01 PM | >A friend of my did the math, and found out that if you have a move speed >of 200 something feet per move action, that you are traveling faster than >the speed of sound if you ran. At sea level, the speed of sound is 979 ft/sec. (667 miles/hour) In D&D, each 10 ft of movement represents 1 mile/hour of long distance movement. Thus, sound has a movement rate of 67 at the long distance scale. At the tactical level, sound moves 5874 ft. in a standard combat round (6 seconds * 979 ft./sec). This is about 1.1 miles. If sound had the run feat, it could would have a movement rate of 5874/5 = 1175. Sorry. To make a sonic boom you need a speed of 1175 and the run feat. |
| storm140203-09-06, 08:17 PM | My honest Question is why would you want to run that fast to begin with? I have seen vampire NPC's with amazing speed but it fits the archetype but why would a pc want to run that fast? |
| Asciiman03-10-06, 03:07 AM | Because... Seriously, you don't need a better reason then that. Don't believe me then go over to the character optimization board and look at some of those builds. So many of them are not playable, but were built just because. |
| ShadowDragon868503-10-06, 03:14 AM | Pun-Pun can run faster than the speed of light. How can he do this? Because he has the infinate energy required. Needless to say, he can break the sound barrier ten ways from sunday. |
| Kerri_Evanwood03-10-06, 03:20 AM | The speed of sound is approximately 1,115 feet per second, or 6690 feet per round. Assuming the Run feat, this would require a land speed of 1338 feet (or 1340, since land speed is almost always in multiples of 10). Bad joke: if your base land speed is 1337, you can run the speed of sound. |
| Judging Eagle03-10-06, 12:41 PM | Bad joke: if your base land speed is 1337, you can run the speed of sound. Sorry, but that's just siggable. |

To make a sonic boom you need a speed of 1175 and the run feat. mostly agree with ya except for 1 thing, 668 m/h is the speed of sound if your at cruising altitiude, for sea level, its about 761 m/h (source = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_of_sound) so lets do the math again :D with 5280 feet per mile, we get a speed of 1116 feet per second or 6697 feet per round. so, quite simply you need to get 6697 feet in 1 round to be running at the speed of sound. Assuming run feet (5* move), this equates to a movement rate of 1339.4 or needing about a 1340 movement rate |
| Surgo03-10-06, 04:38 PM | Of course, it also varies with ambient temperature and pressure so these sorts of calculations are rather silly. |
| Silverthumb12803-10-06, 09:05 PM | Bad joke: if your base land speed is 1337, you can run the speed of sound. Its worth hearing a 3rd time. Judging Eagle is right, that's just sig goodness. :D |
| BW022203-11-06, 05:06 AM | Mirage_1, Thanks. Good catch. Of course in order to run you need to move in a straight line across flat terrain. Any difficult terrain would imped your movement. I don't know how one could pick any spot over a mile away and draw a straight line without running into atleast a 5' square of something. Maybe a flat lake and a ring of water walking? Either that or a dry lake bed? Of course we could try the calculation for how much damage you would take from running into a 5lb sea-gull at over 700mph. However, needless to say it would be pretty fatal. |

| Ozymandias V.03-11-06, 11:43 AM | Worse Joke: If you can get your move speed up to 155 feet, you can travel through time whenever you get hit by a lightning bolt. |
| Suzaku45503-11-06, 02:12 PM | Worse Joke: If you can get your move speed up to 155 feet, you can travel through time whenever you get hit by a lightning bolt. Do I get XP if I was trying to defeat him when I cast Lightning bolt? |
| tharivol26603-12-06, 08:04 PM | yea air temperature has alot to do with the speed required. the number i saw for the speed was 1129f/s which related to 1693.blah without run and 1354.8 with run. which then relates to 770 mph. hey i just realized i beat that on my way to school everymorning. lol. now then back to what i was saying. terminal velocity is about 120 mph so hitting anything when your speed exceedes 210 base land speed with the run feat(or 1050 feet/turn) would deal more than 20d6 points of damage. now the speed of sound is about 6.5 times terminal velocity so at that speed hitting soemthing would be 130d6 points of damage. for an average of 455 points of damage. |
