| ids the bum02-24-04, 09:55 PM | I was just wondering if anyone can relate to having or borrowing a d20 die that worked so well that you always want to use it, and blaming any other dice for not being your favorite one when you roll bad with them... Personally, I have a problem of always finding favorite dice in my fellow players' possession. It gets annoying after the 12,000th time :behold: |
| NestroEmichae02-24-04, 10:16 PM | I have a d20 that is so evil to players that it has been officially added as a lesser deity to my games. I've even got stats for it. It always rolls high when used against PCs and low when used for PCs. Any other time, it rolls average. |
| Snow in August02-24-04, 10:35 PM | All my dice are completely impartial, which can be good or bad, except for my d4 which I think is under some sort of enchantment as I can remember about two times total it has rolled a 1. Now I just need to spread that to my other ones... |
| Princeoflowlight02-24-04, 10:48 PM | My DM has a particularly evil red die with a little spider as the 20. This is no ordinary beast. I recall one time it rolled 6 consecutive critial hits from orcs attacking a 3rd level cleric I was playing. He even re-rolled the last one out of pity, and it still critted. Of course, it swings both ways. One time our party was being attacked by random griffins. Our rogue had the bright idea of trying to entangle one of the beasts' wings with a grappling hook. The DM allowed him to do this, just telling him he'd need to roll a 20 on the attack roll, and let him use the spider die. Needless to say, we still talk about that incident... |
| Cog02-25-04, 03:15 AM | I have a purple crystal caste d20 that always rolls low for the unimportant things like initiative (as a fighter with 4 attacks, I prefer to get charged), and high for hits and saves. :) |
| Ssussunriyh02-25-04, 03:21 AM | My dice are impartial, but I am completely and thoroughly convinced that all computerized dice-rollers are EVIL!!! |
| Winternova02-25-04, 03:36 AM | I got a swirly blue die that always managed to make my players cringe when they see me throw it. I stopped bringing it for a couple sessions, and the players breezed through a couple levels... until I brought it back. There seems to be a tradeoff though - even though it hits even the most ludicrously high AC, it always fails massive damage saves (in d20m), and it seems to affect my players' initiative rolls too - last session few sessions, half my players had trouble breaking a 10. |
| Brillock of Ithicus02-25-04, 04:21 AM | i purchased some of those dwarven stones (copyright) from crystal caste, and there kinda a bit lobsided, but still roll average... However my D20 likes to roll 20's and 6's its crazy, the last roll playing session i rolled 8 /20's all within about 12 dice rolls. Then i went on a dry spell. Before that I had 2 sets of dice a yellow and a red set, both where good at times to me, and mean at other times. I have sets of D6's used only for character generating because they both roll high. I usually get an 18 and at least two 16's with the set, but then it goes downhill with sub par 9's and 8's but all the more for flavor. |
| Garrum02-25-04, 02:12 PM | I've got a green/black speckled d20 that I'm using now. It has become my favorite, not because it rolls super high, but because it doesn't roll as low as the others. Without fail, all of my dice have a bad tendency to choke in any kind of dire situation. You know, like when you roll to see who takes first watch. It only gets worse the more dire the situation. God help me if I ever need to make a save versus massive damage. So all my dice are slackers, but some have been downright mean spirited. I had a totally clear d20 that failed to do anything for over 30 consecutive rolls. Over 30 failed attacks, saves, and dispel checks. Most were dispel checks. On the last roll, upon seeing it was yet another fail, I simply picked it up and hurled it over my shoulder without looking into the rafters, never to be seen again (we were playing in a partially finished upstairs section of a house). It was meant to serve as a warning to the rest of my dice, to tell them what could happen if they weren't cooperative, but it didn't work. The next 6 rolls were fails too. Then I made the coolest series of rolls ever, and should have killed a red dragon in a single hit, but the DM was a lying rat bastard and didn't allow it. So, add your stories about dice that treated you bad, as they are usually entertaining too. |
| Peter Bergholtz02-25-04, 09:57 PM | Our group put the infamous "AssassinDice" within a bowl of coke in and coffee into the fridge. Now itīs frozen in caffaine intill the end of days. Or when the PCs are in need of a really good dice... |
| edgelett02-25-04, 10:05 PM | I have a d20 that I will not let to anyone. It's my fav. Small & purple, it rolls the BEST fort saves ever. Except for last night when it rolled a 1....... after which i grabbed it and explained to it that it needs to roll higher. Next fort save..20. I will not lend this die to anyone. I won't lend dice to a DM no matter what (they'll contaminate them with their PC killing dice), and will lend only certain dice to other players (i.e dice I rarely use). Why? am i evil & uncaring for those who lack dice? no. I'm just a superstitious gamer. |
| green_yawgmoth02-25-04, 10:34 PM | My favorite d20s are the green plastic d20 my girlfriend gave me that has the mirrodin symbol replacing the 20, and my amethyst d20. |
| Capn Charlie02-26-04, 07:48 PM | I had a pearlescant blue d20 that I bought nearly a year before I heard of DnD. I felt drawn to it. I fished it out when I started playing and used it almost exclusively until I lost it somewhere in my house. I lost my dice mojo too. From that fateful day I can not roll dice with my hands. It is high when it should be low, and low when it should be high. I have to roll with a dice cup. I have a nice marble one though, so it isn't all bad. But I have the annoying tendency to roll dice with my hand that I don't particularly care about the results. The first time I grab the cup in a session my players tend to go "oh, crap, the cup". A bit of a tipoff, but better than my monsters and npcs looking like a blooper reel. |
