Favorite in what sense? Most useful or simply coolest?

For coolest I like Two-weapon Fighting. I just like the mental image of somebody fighting with two short swords or rapier and dagger. It may be more "efficient" to take a big strength, Power Attack and a greatsword, but it's not nearly as cool.

For Wizards: Spellcasting Prodiy
Rogues: Weapon Finesse or Improved Initiative
Ranger: Twin-Sword Defense

Karmic Strike.
The best darn mechanism for enhancing attacks-per-round there is.
Combat Reflexes is pretty high on my list, as well.

Great cleave is pretty fun.

Improved Initiative is always a favourite of mine, as is Quick Draw.

And skill focus is great for having characters truly surprise the DM with their abilities at first level. :D

For my Wizard...Reactive Counterspell. That things has saved his life at least twice already.

Weapon finesse. An absolute must for my oft played ranger/rogue two weapon combat specialist.
Draco Strang

Improved initiative without a doubt. That has saved my ass so many times.
Rancorpit

I can't decide between Heighten Spell and Craft Wondrous Item. Somehow I always end up taking them both.
Shard of Suzail

11-10-04, 11:25 AM
Skill emphasis, possibly called skill focus...the one that adds three to a skill.

Always nice to have reliable skills.

Spell caster: spellcasting prodigy
Multi-classed spell caster: practiced spell caster
other: improved initiative

I guess mine would be improved initiative, I've only ever had 1 character not to have it at 1st level.

Improved initiative has to be my least favorite feat, as it always feels like a waste of a feat to me (I am going to get a turn eventually and after seeing the number of times people with high initiatives decide to hold their actions it just seems to be a waste).

My favorite feats are:
Improved Trip (free AoO when they fall and again when they get up)
Combat Reflexes (take advantage of that free AoO, and still be ready for anything)
Spring Attack (Takes a lot of feats to get their, but once you have it just add some boots of speed or of springing and striding, and no one should ever get close enough to hit you again.)
Natural Spell (makes the druid a true powerhouse)

Oh and from the Tactical feats list:
Elusive Target (More free trip attacks, and bye-bye power attacks and flanking attackers)
devinmdp

Luck of Heroes. Gives you a +1 luck bonus to AC and all saves.

Hold the Line. Gain AoO against a charging foe.

Dirty Fighting. +1D4 damage to all melee attacks all the time!

Combat-based: Two-Weapon Fighting
Skill-based: Skill Focus()
Spell-based: *haven't played one yet*
Melpomene

I'm partial to Improved Toughness and the Cumbrous save feats.

Improved Trip, usually. Makes any front liner considerably meaner.

I like practiced spellcaster, dirty fighting, arcane strike, and arcane disciple. All very nice and synergize quite well.

Improved initiative for everyone.

For Casters - that they are first to cast their most powerful spell at surprised enemies, while they may be in group (afterwards enemies divide/charge/run... no area effect spells :( )

For Fighters - to chaaaaarge casters for abovementioned reasons :)

Isn't Dirty Fighting only in 3.0 sources?

And, when they came out with the second printing with the errata, it became useless. Sure, you add an extra 1d4 damage- but you can only do that on a FAO, and in lieu of a FAO. In other words, if you use that feat, you don't get multiple attacks. Seems sucky to me.

Many people consider the splatbooks valid...especially until the Complete series is...well...complete!

As far as errata, that's news to me. I've never seen it errata'd. Can you point me to a link?

I personally like Combat Expertise and Power Attack, mainly because of the following reasons:

With spellcasters who are unlikely to use their BAB for anything useful anyway, Combat Expertise basically gives them free AC.

For warriors, CE and PA give the ability to trade BAB for either better defense or better offense, either at the expense of accuracy. Accuracy can be improved alot by so many other sources, especially magic spells that add to attack rolls. So in a well-balanced group, most warrior classes can afford to leech off of their BAB. Since you can change it every round, you can play defensive for a few rounds, and then suddenly lash out for a ton of damage.

I agree that Combat Expertise is a handy feat, but its use by spellcasters isn't always worth it. In order to benefit from Combat Expertise, you have to take the Attack or Full Attack actions. I play a swashbuckling wizard with Combat Expertise, but I only get to use it on those rounds when I'm not casting. This works out because I like to mix it up in melee, but YMMV. :)

The Spell Fire Wielder Feat is my favorite from MoF. It provides Healing at all levels (2 per spell fire level) and a major damage attack or two that is particularly useful to any class at low levels and still quite useful at middling and higher levels that is half divine and ignores SR. Also lets you absorb targeted non area spells.

Yeh, and in return you get to be hunted by every mage, dragon, cult, or evil network around.

Furthermore it not in the FRCS its in Magic of Faerun.

Furthermore no dm in there right mind would let you take it.

My picks

-Improved Init
-Quicken Spell
-Practiced Spellcaster
-Craft Wonderous Item
-Improved Counterspell (especally with a sorcerer)

Because I will kill you...

But really, That wasnt ment as much of a flame, it was just there to point out that the feat isnt all that great when you take into acount the problums it creates. It wasnt directed just at him.

Thanks for the correction regarding Magic of Faerun as the correct source. I amended my earlier post.

Have to disagree about the hunting since MoF mentioned the feat was not as rare as commonly believed but it depends on your campaign. Also have to disagree as WOTC has Spellfire wielders and Epic Spell Fire Wielders.

I like the feat for the edge it can a PC and his or her group in one or two encounters with emergency healing or damage dealing for an encounter or two.

Unforantitly it completly unbalances the game when one character can absorb spells, blast for no SR, and heal. I'm not saying it wasnt ment to be played, I'm just saying its hard to fit into a game very well from a balance stand point, and the feat specifically says you need to speak to your dm first. To my knowledge its the only feat that has that discalamer in 3.0-3.5.

As for the varius groups out to get a weilder, I have to disagee with you. The abillity is far more common, but most people dont know that, and most wielders keep there abillities secret, only using it when they absolutly have to. If word gets out you will be hunted.

Posting Topic is Favorite Feat Not Spell Fire Wielder is Bad, Unbalanced and No DM would ever allow.

Most people have several favorite feats. I use 25 to 32 point buy and no templates greater than +2.

Hidden Talent would by my second favorite feat with Astral Construct (also requires DM approval :) ). Craft Wonderous Item makes the top 5.

I really like the Blood Lines from UA which grant bonuses to skills, abilities, ability scores and feats something at every level for not to much cost and depending on the bloodline includes Improved Initiative or others.

As this post is about Favorite Feats. I really like taking Extra Feats at Level One. Take Two Extra Feats and Two Extra Debiliating Feats from UA. Now take VoP. :)

I would like to see a bonus feat at level one based on best ability score.

Regarding spell fire wielders they can not absorb area attacks and are limited by constitution for total spell fire levels absorbed and do have overloading penalties additionally spellfire is a targeted attack not auto hit.

Agree keeping ability secret in best interests of the wielder but disagee about the hunting down by everyone. The book Spellfire was weakened mechanically in 2.0 and again in 3.0/3.5 no killing the dragon with one attack like the books. Realistically after a few levels and a few surviving enemies in any campaign a PC spellfire wielder will gain a reputation for possessing the ability and some enemies (not all) will take actions to negate the ability.

In the intrest of the thread lets stop agruing.

Atleast we can agree on Improved Init and Craft Wonderous Item, if not on Spellfire Weilder.

Oh, and I stand corrected about the reqiures dm approval statment.

It was in the second printing of the book. It is likely around here somewhere, but since I don't play 3.0, I am not going to dig for it. Ask around. Sorry.

My standard feats: Improved Initiative, TWF, Combat Reflexes, Weapon Finesse. They always make it into my character's repertoire, so I would say that these are my favorites.

Right now, I am trying out a Quicker Than the Eye/Expert Tactician combo. I think it will work out nicely. Especially with the feats from above.

Energy Sub: Cold or Lightning.

I play casters 99% of the time, and I like those two elements. Sorcs usually get Cold, Wizards get Lightning. No idea why.

Sometimes I get Innate Spell: Lightning Bolt ;p

Improved trip

"I ready an action, when he gets close I trip him."
"Alright, make a touch attack and a strength check."
"I got a 23."
"He goes down."
"20 to hit on my attack."
"He's hit!"
"Ok, I'm flurrying."
"Alright, two hits. He's getting up."
"No he's not, roll opposed strength."

I once held down two CR's that were above my level and nearly killed them both that way ^_^

Spellcasting Prodigy is in FRCS or MoF ( I cant remember which). It allows a spellcaster a +2 to his primary ability score for the purpose of spell use only (i.e. Spells known, Bonus spells, and Spells/Day).

It is beneficial if you are going to multi-class as a second spellcaster. For instance, In a game in which I am playing, I am a Wizard/Cleric (soon to be Mystic Theurge). Since we were only given a 32-point buy (I know, some of you think that is a lot), I put a 16 into INT and a 14 into WIS. With Spellcasting Prodigy, I put that +2 into WIS, and now both classes are equal (as far as casting is concerned).

.

Well, that's 3.0. Best feat ever, then. It has now been re-done for 3.5 in PGtF, and the bonus is now only for extra spells cast per day.

I really like Exalted feats in general, though Vow of Poverty is cool. And True Believer. For flavor, pretty much useless though. As for feats that are actually good, well... I can never say no to power attack and a barbarain :)
