| Rood_Inverse12-11-07, 03:46 PM | Everybody loves a good haul, after slaying the BBEG. What's the coolest thing you've walked away from a hoard with? Me? I had a group who had started RttToEE, and we made it as far as the moathouse before the DM dropped a dragon on our heads. It was a little one, but we managed to snuff it. My rogue took two of its largest, sharpest teeth and fashioned a few earrings from them, that now hang off my right ear. |
| Repirr12-11-07, 04:36 PM | Similar situation where our DM set up the dragon as the BBEG's "pet." We fought it off and the following conversation insued: Me: Ok, so what loot is there? DM: Loot? For the bad guy's pet? Another player: Well yeah, we're not gonna fight off a pet dragon and get nothing! DM: Um...there's a jewel encrusted bowl over in the corner with the name "Fido" on it. Me: Ok, I'll take that. Don't laugh, I used that bowl to kill the BBEG. |
| Moosh Nailo12-12-07, 01:27 AM | Again, fighting a wee little hatchling (a green). Walked away with the corpse. DM allowed a shield to be made from the hide, sized to fit my med druid, instead of any armor. Used the fangs/claws to create a spiked dragonfang gauntlet for the halfling rogue. We both swaggered around for a while after that one :) |
| Meles_Meles12-12-07, 07:44 AM | Last session: We fought an undead unicorn which healed itself by dipping its horn in the blood leaking from my unconscious body. I cut off its horn once we beat it. Next session: I'll strap it to my head and start dipping it in blood every time we encounter something that bleeds. It won't do anything, but it'll sure be fun! |
| sirdanile12-12-07, 03:47 PM | ^^ That seems a little... like a morbidly "evil" habit... My favorite? Taking the skill "craft: taxedermy" just oozes stories for this one... ever made an angelskin robe? evil druids pay "lots" for it. |
| Cuaglar12-12-07, 04:16 PM | I remember when my sisters and I played halfdragons when we found a krenshar pelt. Since we were in a different world, and the world we had come from had most of its creatures possessing the draconic template, we almost fought over who got the non-scaly cloak. |
| HARLEYDUDE12-12-07, 06:06 PM | DM: Um...there's a jewel encrusted bowl over in the corner with the name "Fido" on it. Me: Ok, I'll take that. Don't laugh, I used that bowl to kill the BBEG. OK I want to hear that story!!! As for me - years and years and years ago I played in a 2nd ed group using the dragonlance campaign. I got the dead elven kings sword "dragonbane". the same one that Tanis got in the book. HD |
| metalmayhem8011012-13-07, 03:05 AM | Last session: We fought an undead unicorn which healed itself by dipping its horn in the blood leaking from my unconscious body. Yeah, I don't want to threadjack the OP... But this story needs to be told... And as for my favorite loot, it's a tough one. I had a warlock who REALLY angered the mini-bbeg... A ninja... This was a rivalry that was built up since I was level 1 (And he was level 10). Through weird ideas and strategies, I could always manage to stop him. Then when I couldn't stop him, I made his life difficult (His lower level wife was helping him kidnap the queen. He had the queen under his arms, I knew I couldn't free her directly. But I could grapple the wife and make him my play toy :P) Yeah, when we finally got him (I was lucky enough to get the last shot :P), I took off his gear and put it on. My character was always borderline evil, and hated the paladin. The paladin has been hoarding loot, and I hadn't asked for much... When he said "I demand half of that loot!", well, I had to try out the new gear... :D It was the most fun I've ever had :P |
| Krekzeron12-13-07, 12:19 PM | Taking a dagger from a thief in the dark, and slaying him with it, then going on to slay zombies, dragons, and evil wizards with same said dagger when all my magic weapons failed me... Necklace made of freshly slain dragon's teeth with artwork carved into each one depicting the death of it's respective dragon... Killing the BBeG cleric of Lolth who was twice our party's CR who just happened to be wielding a relic weapon deadicated to the goddess, then using same said weapon to fight a war against her in The ToEE... I could never choose. |
| Grumman12-13-07, 01:11 PM | Playing as a high level transmuter/gish, I once stole all the portcullises from a dungeon we were exploring. |
| Omnirahk, half-Rahkshi12-13-07, 03:25 PM | Let's see . . . in my current campaign, I earned a reward for helping to obtain large quantities of "Primal Earth." Useful stuff for earth-based magic, and much-craved by both our college's geology and arcane departments. (Messed up modern fantasy campaign. Magic only recently reentered the world). So, I called in my reward for a special shotgun built with earth elemental magic, so it could shoot stony fists instead of bullets. That was a lot of fun. I mean to get a sucker punch setting added. Sometimes Chuck Norris is overkill. From my first campaign, we didn't get much loot, but it was memorable for how loot was involved. We had to raid Dispater's tower to retrieve our paladin's Holy Avenger and his now-mummified right arm. We were caught. By Dispater himself. After I went sky diving (with Freedom of Movement) and blew up half his tower. But since the sword was drawing unwanted attention, he agreed to let us leave with it, so long as we gave him all our other loot. I immediately drop everything, and for good measure, even pull out my pet frog and plop him on top of the pile. Dispater let me keep the frog. :dancin: So our entire loot consisted of: a sword, a mummified arm, a frog, and a ruby the size of an elephants head - an elephant that could fit in a closed hand. I don't care if the loot was bad, that was an awesome end! |
| CryoSilver12-13-07, 03:56 PM | My favorite loot ever wasn't from the dragon's hoard, it was the dragon. We were running awa from a wyrmling white dragon (party was level 1 and out of spells). I got the brilliant idea of punching the dragon to death (I had lost my spear earlier; I was a cleric). So we ran around a corner, and I readied an action to partial charge the dragon and tackle it. I did so, and my first unarmed strike was a critical hit, plus my prodigious strength modifer, and I dealt the dragon 13 subdual damage, knowkcing it out (as we had hurt it slightly earlier). So we tied it up, roped its mouth shut, and had ourselves a pet dragon, which we named "Jim." |
| weasel200712-13-07, 04:17 PM | My blackguard wore a Rakshasa pelt for a while and the party rogue had a hat with an angel feather in it. |
| A_Ninja_Errant12-13-07, 05:56 PM | I think my all time favorite was when our DM threw a homebrew trapped door at us, if you hit it, it would repel you back with equal force taking no damage itself. So we took it. My elf rogue/sorcerer later used it as cover when attacked by tall mouthers. The look on that critters face when it tried to punch me and flipped halfway across the room made it worth hauling that stupid door all over the dungeon. :D My first 3rd edition campaign. |
| Mock2612-13-07, 06:09 PM | Years ago, back in the early days of 2nd edition, my 1st level group found a letter of credit worth 100,000 GP. Unfortunately for us we were just outside of Waterdeep and the letter of credit was from some merchant company out in the lands of Kara-Tur. The best offer we got in Waterdeep was something like 15,000 for it and being the greedy buggers that we were we set out on our quest to find this merchant company. It took us a long time to get out there and when we finally arrived we were something like 10th level and really didn't need the money. But, we cashed it in and then started a whole new campaign out in the far east. It was two great campaigns with some really fun characters. |
| DM_Shonuff12-13-07, 07:08 PM | Archibol Barrisol, Grey elf Spell filcher and his group of sell swords got to the BBEG, a human lich of small power, While the group faced the BBEG, "Archie" grabbed the Lich's Bear rug and threw it over his own back and screamed he couldn't help, the bear rug was attacking him. Moving around a bit, it gave Archie time to look through the Lich's stuff for his Phylactery. Upon finding it, The lich turned and actually ANIMATED the bear rug! After fending the rug off (for real) and the Lich destroyed, The pelt was Archie's one magical find. It was a carpet of flying with an animated spell on it, so it did his bidding AND was his flying carpet. Or Rungo Ironcheeks, Dwarven Battlerager in an all Demihuman group. Found a few Drow crunched and went looting. He found a pair of the mechanical arms that Drow were known to create for lost limbs out of Darksteel or adamantine.(see Drow of the Underdark 2nd ed.) He used the arms to hold his weapons, and then held onto the shoulders of the arms, extending his reach and dmg, but lowering his attack bonus.(think unskilled power attack) After a bunch of levels, and scaring intelligent drow they came across seeing a battle rager using Drow amputated arms as weapons, holding weapons....He convinced the Gnome tinkerer (through voilence) to attach them to his plate mail. Now he was a 4 armed battlerager with four weapons, two could NOT be disarmed, and he ran around screaming "Ale and mead Beer n' wine, if I cut off yer limbs I keep it fer mine!" Fear factor in full effect!!!! or Dread Lord Fulshunior , Human Necromancer. - After Killing a Adult White dragon with the help of the entire Ng-CN party, they all went into an uproar over the Hoarde. Fulshunior Just walked to the corpse and claimed the dragon's corpse....and raised it under his command. |
| kurieguru12-14-07, 11:22 AM | My all time favorite loot that I ever got out of a dungeon was a Half-illithid Minotaur head. After the guy tried to eat my brain and we were finally able to escape from him. I asked to borrow the monk's kukuri and sliced off his head, as soon as I could I got gentle repose cast on it, and Pulled it out of my belt-o-pockets whenever I needed a circumstance modifier on Intimidate. |
| Ollee6412-14-07, 11:38 AM | my favorite loot i have if my rouge/cleric's necklace of trophies. From every BBEG or even guys who were pain in the asses, i take a trophy of some sort. Rings Teeth(from a dragon) daggers and fingers. Its pretty neat now... my favorite loot that was in any of the campaigns ive played(which is a limited number) was my friends dwarf barbarian. He bought all his armor spiked and a spiked helm and gauntlets and shields. and wound up with an illithid head on top of him, an bird wing on one side hanging off of him, and a bat like wing on the other and a bunch of spider legs, spider heads and other limbs. Most of the things were actively rotting on him, but he looked wicked... |
| lonewolf633912-17-07, 04:09 PM | A Hill giant's dirty loin cloth. The party killed the giant by casting enlarge on the female fighter who had 20 charisma. She distracted it by flashing it while the others got around behind it and the party sorceror unloaded on it. They later used the loin cloth as a gag for the mini bbeg when they captured him and draged him to the nearest town. The mini bbeg commited suicide afterwards yelling somthing about never getting the taste out of his mouth.:D |
| happy_fuzzy12-18-07, 12:15 AM | The tongue of a slain dragon, because I actually had profession (cook) and my character was too lazy to carry the head. |
| Shadowshimmer12-18-07, 07:47 AM | Scales off of a Dragon and tried to make a shield out of it like from the movie Dragonslayer. Never got to test it though. |
| Johnathan_Vagabond12-18-07, 09:16 AM | I don't really know what my favorite trophy was. I have a habit of collecting them from all of my enemies post mortem. I think my favorite was with the character Dwovar Jarvarson, who despite being a beligerant, rank, and caustic dwarf, was locked away for being beligerant, rank, and caustic. They underestimated (however) his strength score and when I realized that he was held down with two 100lb ball-n-chains, I realized it was high time to break out of jail, using the two 100lb ball-n-chains as two 100lb flails. Sure, I had a hefty penalty to attack, somewhere along the lines of -8. On the other hand, penalties don't matter when you roll 20, 20. So, after using a full power attack to break down the prison door (we housruled something like 4d6) I got a crit with a 4d6 20x2 and knocked the poor guard unconscious and bleeding out. Up until the very last campaign when we were up against a monster with an AC too high for me to hit regularily, I pulled out a 100lb ball-n-chain flail. There were a couple other throphies, but that was probably the best. |
| Rulebook12-18-07, 12:05 PM | i have two pieces of favorite loot the first was with my lvl 15 halfling rogue. we found a 50,000gp platinum crown in some superloot, but i refused to sell it. she still wears it to this day! i think i had her enchant it, but i dont remember the second, i forget what character, but not the loot. i found this copper and lazurite drinking mug (worth something sick like 300gp or something) so my 2nd level character that finds it (yeah... superloot rules) dosent sell it. instead he drinks out of it. once a thief stole it... we went on a quest to retrive the stupid mug because he loved it so much. i mean seriously, a 12th level character questing to retrieve his favored beverage recepticle... man i loved that mug. |
| gixanthrax12-18-07, 02:34 PM | A waterskin filled with the left ears from all goblins of the sunless citadell... And once our female barbarian was wearing the 14 end antlers of some deer we encountered. It was great fun, when on the next time playing she was asked by a city guard why she was wearing them... Well and our evil cleric was most amused about a minotaurzombie wearing fullplate of some sort... |
| angelus_truelove12-18-07, 05:19 PM | My favorite came in my first time ever playing. We were a large party of level 3 characters. We were in a vampire's home and we had just defeated his cook, a huge ugly creature that wielded two humans on pikes (skewers) for weapons. I was looking for something to leave with, seeing as there wasn't any real treasure and this was the only fight we were getting in. So what I found was the guy's butcher knife that was big enough for me to use as a greatsword. I named it Reek of the Dead and the DM decided to give it few non-magical abilities. And when I transferred the character to another campaign with the same DM he allowed me to transfer the weapon as well. During the second campaign I had it enchanted to my liking, though the best part was when I was swallowed by a demon and then pooped back out, the non-magical bonuses went up in DC. Those bonuses were fear, nausea, and poison to anyone hit by it. |
| korifugi12-20-07, 07:03 AM | I've played alongside a Necromancer that likes to loot the bodies - Literally! (Yes, Aotrscommander, I'm looking at YOU!) Having a couple of Fog giants walking alongside the party might be conspicuous, but boy does it help in combat. |
