I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing their favorite memories of a game they'd played.

Mine?
1.My ranger character killing an evil 6th level druid by shooting him in the throat.
2.My DM doing such a great job on a game involving a wendigo (setting up the tone, atmosphere, and such) that I was actually creeped out that night (the fact that the weather outside was exactly like it was in the game-dark, eerily howling wind made it all the scarier).

3rd edition. The end of a long long campaign, 13th level and we'd hit the climax of the storyline. We had just killed hte leadership of the Ogre Army that was sieging the Dwarven city and opened the way for the dwarven counter attack. We won the day and were batterd, bruised, low on equipment and spells. This is when we have one last twist.

Seems this ally of ours in the dwarven mountain was really a red dragon (for some reason I didn't see it coming... oldest trick in the book really) So my Gnome Druid is the only one to pass his save vs Dragonfear against a Red Wyrm. With the rest of the party fleeing I do the only thing I can do... I cast the last 7th level spell I have... Harm, roll a 20 on Spell Resistance check.... and knock this dragon to 1d4 HP (This is when I learned how broken Harm was... but hey I saved the damn day).

That was a good day.

I'll never forget the day my Halfling Monk jumped up towards the Giant Praying mantis and scored a critical causing a small indentation on its beak :D and then legging when it decided to single me out and chase me all over place

Recently, we were trying to get info from a half-orc about thieve's guild. We found him at the port. Someone warned him and my PC (male halfling rouge) took after him, jumping from ship to ship. My party sorcerer tried to jump but landed in the drink and started drowning. Then the ranger jumped in to try and save the fellow but started to drown himself. THEN, the bard jumped in to try and save the both of them and, yes, promptly started to drown himself as well. We were laughing our butts off!!! :D Thankfully, none of them died (swim dc was only 10!!!).

Another incident was when my now-deceased barbarian opened a door, only to get hit by a trap door and the actual trap, a huge boulder, come rolling in after the rest of the party!!! He later died from multiple wounds caused by a juvenile dragon..

I really liked when my elven bard character (STR 10 DEX 16 CONS 11 INT 12 WIS 11 CHA 18) with his trusty bow and his stupidly low HP (HP at first level: SIX... one hit and there goes the bard) saved the party... and it happened often, like this: Once we were fighting a monster (very big, powerful monster), me and my fellows (a dwarven sorceror, a human paladin with a negative strength modifier and a elven ranger). So, the monster came and attacked the dwarven... poof, the dwarven fell... then the paladin... after a while the ranger got killed in a AoO, because he decided to be brave and go close range with him (when he could've easily taken him out with his bow)... and that was it... the only one left there was me... many many meters away from the monster and shooting away... after many arrows and some time of shooting and retreating, shooting and retreating, shooting and retreating, I finally took it down... this has also happened later on in the game a couple of times... there was also one time that I find rather funny when we fought a rustmonster and I tried to scare it away using a ghost sound spell (to mimic a dragon's roar) to scare it away... didn't work, but we laughed our asses off because of that...

My Druid/Monk Derek led his party underground to discover why trees were dying around his sworn-to-protect grove.

Turns out it was the dirty drow. And they brought a mind flayer.

DUring the fight, Derek faced off against a drow warrior riding a giant lizard. The guy was in a weird saddle that gave him all kinds of protection due to a high front.

So Derek ran and kicked off of the wall, tackling the drow out of his saddle and beating the tar out of him.

Then the Mind Flayer showed up. He blasted everyone. Half the party went down, but not Derek. The Mind Flayer blasted again, and everyone was down but Derek. Using his Jo Sticks, he smashed the illithid's brains in, saving the day.

Later, we encountered the drow priestess in charge of the whole deal. She threw a +3 drow dagger at Derek, who used his Monk feat to catch it. Then she took off down a tunnel, heading for a deadfall switch which would cause a cave in. Derek was able to run her down and kill her with her own dagger.

He kept the dagger as a trophy. He kept the mind flayer head too.

I love the drowning one.. I could picture it now. Had similar with dwarves crossing a swift flowing river ... :D
Anyway. thats not the one i am to recall.
many, many years ago, picture 14 college guys at an appartment gaming 2nd ed. AD&D from Thursday straight thru til sunday evening. (Yep nerds alright teehee)
We had 2 DMs running due to the size of our party to maintain flow. After everything had happened through the weekend, negociating, battles, exploring problem solving, pulling spear traps outa your chests, and consuming copious amounts of food, mostly KFC. We had made it to the climax of the battle at night. (Picture Helms Deep) IT was crazy with the battle table and everything. finally the battle ended with us barely making it through alive, The DM was describing the scene "as the sun was rising above the hills" And BOOM! the sun literally came up over the far hill shining right in the window into the living room.
At the second he said it as if on que... Freaky moment. We sat in stunned silence. :mymy:

My most memorable moment was in 3.0

We were using the if you roll 3 20's in a row it is an instant kill. My DM spent a month developing a two headed black dragon. I was playing a Half-Orc Barbarian using a great-axe. I won initiative and rolled three 20's to start combat. The DM ended the 3 20's rule right there, but gave me a bonus to damage. Then it tail whipped me into a river and I missed the rest of the combat. lol

(We no longer use the three 20's rule)

I was playing a cocky duelist/aristocrat and the party figured out that the big bad guy that was giving us so much trouble was a local lord. We asked for an audience and when the guy showed up we engaged him in conversation long enough to trap him with words, and then we killed him. The gaurds came and everyone ran off but me. I stayed and tried to bluff them. I rolled a natural 20. The DM made me make up a convincing bluff and roll again. 18. Even this made him have the gaurds attack my character. I slayed them easily and sat there in the doorway screaming my head off for someone to listen to me about the evil lord, and the gaurds kept coming and I kept killing them until bodies were piled up in the hallway to the audience chamber. Finally some bowman opened fire from a distance and I had to leave, but all the other players were jealous of my encounter and I still chuckle thinking about him in the doorway:

Duelist: Are you going to listen to me. This man was in league with a black drag... (gaurds attack) I guess not. STABBIE STABBIE What about you, are you going to... (gaurds attack) Stop it! KILLIE KILLIE. Crap, I don't want to kill... PUNCTURE TO THE STOMACH -sigh-

My best D&D memory was when me and a two others made a dragon hunting party, my friend had this paladin that couldnt hit the broad side of a barn, but his warhorse could kill anything on the board, so we'd just send them in to pull out the dragon and i had several ballista's that i had set up outside and we would get him with a barage of ballista bolts. it was hillarious because the dm had a seperate story going on and we'd just go off and kill dragons. he'd start the game and we would just find a dragons cave instead of the story, he hated us.

Tyler Mydle 8 Ranger/7 Cleric/2 Vigilant (ME)

After much adventure Tyler and his party find themselves in Hell to retrieve an artifact to weaken a DM created NPC to reach godhood. This act would ruin all of Toril (Forgotten Realms). A pit fiend was guarding said artifact. Well the pit fiend summons help and were getting worked. I loved this character but I knew what I had to do. Weilding "Mystra's Touch" (a short sword artifact given to me by her Avatar unbeknownst to me) I used one of the swords feature and opened a gate back to the PMPlane. The other PC's ran through and , the pit fiend seeking the portal himself, ran as well. Bear in mind this was my only use of this IGate spell. After the PC's got through, Fiend close behind, I shut the portal. Enraged the Pit fiend turned towards Tyler, surely looking to snap his neck...stupid human, and there I am with grim determination..looking at the DM...and say Let's start this man dance....

towards the end of 2e, i was playing a gnomish Clerical Necromancer...campaign rules were: Gnome Necro's were protecting the world by seeking out and killing Dwarven Necro's, who go nuts with the magic and make huge armies of undead...

so, Gohmon Rey, the Gnome, sets out with a couple of companions and we go adventuring...then i learn the spell Fist of Stone which was a stone domain necro spell...essentially gave you a d8 dmg unarmed strike and the to hit bonus of an 18/00 char (+4 to hit, +4 damage)...prob was, you can't use that hand for anything besides bashing, seeing as how its now made of stone (for the spell's duration)

combine that with vampiric touch, and a good dex, and the vs. giant bonuses i got, and you get the ingredients of one of my all time favorite game moments...

the party (Gohmon, a hum. wiz with combat spells, and an elven maiden who thinks she's spiderman (jump, web, etc...) happen across 3 hill giants, walking our way and feeling beligerent...they toss a couple of rocks our way, which we are able to handle, and we begin...

Round 1: I cast fist of stone, wiz cast's ice storm and slicks over the road the giants are walking on, elf casts [jump] on me

Round 2: I cast vamp touch and charge, have to jump next turn, wiz prep's a combat spell, elf casts jump on self, moves to trees to start sniping...giants fall down or otherwise occupied right now...

Round 3: I leap to the Giant's face (2e jump allowed for 40' leaps, IIRC, punch him in the head, and vamp touch him for a fistful of d6's, 2nd giant gets a lightning bolt to the chest, 3rd gets peppered with arrows...

the fight proceeds in a like manner...with the temp HP given by the Vamp Touch spell, Gohmon was able to withstand the punishment from the Giants, when they were able to hit his small, fast butt, and smack the living poo out of them with his small, but very hurty fists...

i don't know what it is about that fight, but the idea of a gnome about 3 ft tall taking on, and winning a fist fight with a hill giant is just golden to me!

the hamster

(at the end of the camp, Gohmon met the Goddess of death, and became her paramour, where they "lived" happily ever after....even though he died for it)

2e - First character I ever made, a lizardman fighter, dives into a pool after a black dragon because he's by far the best swimmer in the party. Several rounds later, emerges with a dead black dragon that he had to kill with his backup spear, after it broke his first one.

3e (epic, so those who dislike epic stuff can skip ahead) - My epic level half sapphire dragon monk, who used two nunchuku (inspired by Ninja of the New Ninja Warriors, if anyone's a SNES fan, I recommend playing it... he's a 6.89 foot tall, 1540 pound robot that uses a nunchuku with handles 2 feet long) and had perfect two weapon fighting, as well as bracers of the blinding strike, thus gaining 12 attacks per round. Well, the drow under the city we had built (I told you it was epic) were breaking the agreement we had with them, so we stormed their temple to have a word. After killing the immediate bodyguards, a swarm of drow rushed to protect the priestess. While our city's leader (another PC) convinced the priestess just how stupid it was to mess with us, my monk stood in the hallway, which was 20' wide, and kept the entire advancing army back, due to infinite deflection and large and in charge (gets AoOs that stop opponents within reach, and could deflect all the arrows the ones in back were firing). The whole hallway. The enemies were drow fighters of about level 18, and he was killing two a round. God it was wrong. But oh so fun.

ahh.. Mad God's Key module its great. when we went to the cave my charactor (cleric of Wee Jas) was the only one willing to go into the blood pool too look for a switch. When we got inside and saw the pool of blood at the bottom. instead of walking down there we started climbing with rope, the bard was getting impatient waiting for us and just suddenly jumped off casting feather fall in mid air....when he got to the bottem he walked into a hall....with zombie rat swarm.....he then ran to the other side of the blood lake and right in the middle he was surrounded by 6 skeletons..... good thing the party wizard cast a illusion on the bard and concealed him..i jumped off 30 ft and rebuked, rolled nat 21 on check and they were all under my control...... muhahahahahha :schemes:......... but the stupid cleric of corellon turned and destroyed them.... :weep:

During my first try at AD&D (we had an old 1ed. players hanbook, no MM or DMG) our 3 man party was exploring an underground ruin when we came upon a room with a rust monster (back then I knew that rust monsters eat metal bec. I had read the old Mika Oba novels) I quickly shut the door and informed my other players that the thing would turn all our weapons and armor to rust.

After that we came upon a large chamber guarded by an Iron Golem (We had no idea what that was at the time), after hitting the golem with everything weve got and not being able to do any real damage to it we decided to retreat with the golem right at our tails. That was when I remembered about the rust monster at the other room, so we headed back there, let the little critter out and watch it make shot work of the iron golem.

I guess we were pretty stupid, but it was our fist game of D&D and what could you expect.

BOK2, that is the GREATEST way to kill an iron golem I have ever heard of. I don't even care if it's supposed to work in the rules or not (I'm pretty sure that it in fact DOES work, though), it's awesome. Kudos to you guys for using your available resources, and not just giving up when your sword doesn't work.

My best memory was of the final module in the WOC series, the one with Ashardalon. The gist of the module is that the unborn souls of newborn people and animals are being consumed by the dragon. While in game previously my character (elf monk-wizard) had married his cohort (human devoted defender) who had missed the last adventure due to being extremely pregnant. While she gave birth to a soulless child. During the adventure my character scryed on her a couple of times to make sure she was alright due to her getting more and more despondent over the plight of our son. So when we finally saved the day and slew the dragon and went home in triumph I was very suprised to find out that the creatures already born without souls didn't get souls suddenly in some happy hollywood ending. So I got to roleplay my character mourning and having to stop his wife from first making deals with some extremely unsavory sorts (high priest of Cthulu) and then stopping her from suiciding. Regrettably the campaign ended there due to the DM not being willing to try and run an Epic adventure, though she has said never say never.

Something pretty funny happened last week... we were bored, so we decided to get our 15th lvl characters and dueling them, just for fun... I was using my lvl 6 fighter/ lvl 7 blackguard half-fiend with a very boosted mercurial greatsword, a mithral demonic armor and a lion shield, plus one of those belts that give you a +6 STR. My friend was pretty cocky (I was not, as I always think I'm going to lose... I'm a bit of a pessimist) so he challenged me with his lvl 15 human barbarian... got him killed pretty soon... then he fought me with his lvl 15 human monk... got him killed thanks to a successful critical hit (77 damage on one attack... gotta love mercurial sword's x4 multiplier, combined with flaming explosion [extra 3d10 fire damage is always welcome]). Then, he decided to challenge me with his lvl 15 sorcerer lich. Lich vs Half-fiend. Munchkinism vs munchkinism. That's when I thought: "Oh, hell... I'm screwed... his lich is a beast... I won't last a second." However, you should see the look on his face when his spell that should be dealing 60 damage dealt single digit damage (thanks to a +17 reflex save bonus and 20 resistance against fire, ice, lit and acid). However, I couldn't do much about him either, considering that, thanks to Stoneskin spell's 10/+5 damage reduction, I was limited to dealing 16 damage per round (somehow, I always seem to deal 18 (minus 10) damage on my attacks... and I usually scored two attacks per round). Considering that liches recover HP at 5 HP per round while my character was not only hard to hit, but also had insane saves and a +24 to hit, the battle wasn't going anywhere... we soon got sick of it and decided to call it a draw and go have lunch... but I was pretty happy my character could face a lich 2 lvls higher...

I rember (i havent been playing D&D for that long) it was just befor the end of our first campaign and my 2nd level paladin had recently recived a holy longsword that allowed me to turn at +2.(we were playing a really interesting modified advanced D&D) I was running around turning things like hell. We came accros some weird shadow things that our 6th level cleric couldnt turn. I turned every single shadow and rolled 3 consecutive 20's on one (insta-kill in that system). Yeah that was fun. We also took our DM's d20 and started rolling it and got these numbers 20,20,20,19,18,17,16,15,20,20,20 in that order when our dm rolled it again he fumbled.

Favorite memorywas near the beginning of a campaign, where we were facing a band of goblins. Our 3rd level Barbarian/Ranger (with goblins as his favored enemy) Goes nuts. Takes out the whole band one after another.

All of us are watching this going on, and OOC, someone pipes up out of nowhere, singing "Go Go Raging Ranger" to the tune of the old Power rangers theme song. Then the Baranger faces up against the Goblin leader. The two of them duke it out, the Ranger losing one sword due to a fumble. Both get down to low hit points, when the Goblin Leader critically fumbles, and failed the save. We watched as the DM ruled that the Leader's sword shattered when the Baranger blocked it, and then.... The Flying Shards KILLED the goblin leader.

Ranger: Roll a survival check

**Rolls and succeeds**

okay..... Roll a notice check (spot & listen combined)

**Succeeds**

You feel a dripping on your head

"I run away as fast I can, screaming!"

Okay......

"Is there a tree around?"

Dude, you're in a forest.

"Okay, well, I climb a tree, then"

**Succeeds climb checks**

"That *****, I'm gonna kill him" <- in house wizard and ex-DM, John

Ranger: "I signal to John" (starts mimicking a crow complete with arms flapping and cawing) "Ka-KAW, Ka-KAW!"

Me: Roll an intellegence check

**succeeds**

Me: It's raining, you moron. Those drops were raindrops

Ranger: Oh, I thought it was saliva from a monster above us

Me: You are NEVER allowed to play a ranger again, got it?

(Actually he played a druid, but since my favorite class is a druid, I changed it here. Besides, I forgot what he was until I finished typing this :P)

There are so many...but here's one that comes to mind:

The Party:
CE Hafling Rogue/Shadowdancer named Yrev, CN Human Psion named Joseph, and a LG Human Paladin/Fist of Raziel named Zelekhut.

Joseph, after becoming severely depressed, makes a deal with a powerful devil and becomes immortal. He cannot be killed by any means (you'd think this was unbalancing, but Joseph was always being suicidal, it was funny). Yrev knows about this, but doesn't care, because he is a bloodthirsty maniac. Zelekhut is an NPC who has been helping the party fight some powerful demons (enemy of my enemy is my ally).

To test Joseph's story of being immortal, Yrev leaps onto his back, knocking him over. He then commences to stab Joseph in the back vigorously with his poisonous dagger. Joseph plays dead. All of this was done in the presence of Zelekhut, who promptly uses Divine Sacrifice + mega Smite on Yrev, golfing him off of Joseph's back. Yrev scuttled away into the shadows with only 6HP level.

*Side note: That was the closest Yrev has ever gotten to death. The little bugger is unkillable. He has murdered hundreds of people, but due to his +40 on hide/move silently, ring of blinking, hat of disguise, +30 bluff, and shadow jumping, no one can catch him. Everyone in the party always talks about killing him, to his face. But none of us would ever try to go through with it, because we know that if we fail and Yrev escapes...we're dead.

Oooh, just thought of a great moment involving Yrev, everyone's favorite pint-sized murderer...

The party is entering an advanced city, with abundant magic and etc. Everyone must pass through check-points before entering. The first check everyone registers their name and occupation (class, basically). Next is the equipment check, everyone registers what items they are bringing in. Lastly, is an alignment test (basically, detects what alignment the person is). Yrev does the following:

Checkpoint 1) I'm a cleric of Obad-hai. (remember, +30 bluff). This little bugger is wearing a dark cloak, a strange hat and has an evil look in his eye.

Checkpoint 2) Guard: "Please state and show all items on your person."
Yrev (remember, the cleric of obad-hai): "Mmm, Dagger of Venom...Boots of Sneaking...Cloak of the Night...5 vials of poison...Hat of Disguise...ring of blinking..." Everyone is on the floor laughing.

Checkpoint 3) Yrev has no way around this one, he gets tagged as Evil, and is forced to wear a special necklace showing he is not to be trusted while in the town. Yrev hooks up with the local Thief Guild and has it removed...then kills a hundred people in their sleep...

1st ed: Tossing a damaged staff of lightning into a room of 100 orcs. It blew up, killing half and stunning the other half.

That character got killed while rowing a boat across a subterranean lake, and a water elemental got him.
