| thadastardly107-09-06, 02:50 PM | Not exactly a BBeG, maybe just started off as a thug or crony, but always manages to come back to be a thorn in your side? My favorite is by far Nibblet, a kobold was, literally, a part of the kobold ambush that was my party's first battle when we were level 1. He ended up surviving and has so far sent gnolls after us, raided my character's house, tried to kill my char (specifically) many times. The most hilarious part is he keeps calling my character 'fat-head,' but he wants to kill him. Nothing like being a 14th level character and being worried a favored soul kobold is gonna come and kill you. |
| AlanBruce07-09-06, 03:07 PM | When my group played "Forge of Fury", the Troglodyte chieftain, Khargaaz, became a recurrent antagonist. Their first encounter with him resulted in a PK for a character and the lizard running away. Ever since, the party would be ambushed by this creepy king in the labyrinth below the Stone Tooth. They knew they could take him out, but his hit and run tactics were magnificent. Currently, we're gaming through "Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil". Chatrilon Unosh has become a favourite thorn. he's even gained some respect, sinc emy players refer to him as "Mr. Unosh". |
| smoker07-09-06, 03:27 PM | Come on. Who doesn't totally dig Tiamat and Venger fromt he cartoon? Anyway, the best villian has all ways been the setting. I had the characters selling most of their valueable items after green dragons whipped out crops for a hundred miles around. Try to sell that magic item, if someone would even pay for it, and buy food or hunt. |
| stargate52507-09-06, 04:15 PM | There was a character, a halfling, that was imprisoned with one of my 'mates early in the campaign. At the time I was impersonating a guard, and becuase of an incident with a shirt I began to call him 'six-shirts McGee'. He is now somewhere in every game I DM. |
| Count Nerindil Van Seraph07-09-06, 05:01 PM | My DM (crazy bastard that he is) has a pet antagonist named Rym. He is a pixie warlock who is (for whatever reason) constantly hounding the party. He is sadistic, evil and powerful, and were it not for the fact that he is about the size of a cat, people might find him menacing. He has an enormous ego and is infuriated by the fact that the party (my character, a warlock himself, mostly) refuses to take him seriously. |
| Kelwyn07-09-06, 07:19 PM | Oh, I just saw that youre playing Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, otherwise I would have a clear winner :D |
| coomber07-10-06, 09:38 AM | My group seem to have ended up with an un-planned recurring character. He is a Level 3 conjuror they were expected to kill during a small encounter when Level 1 characters, taking them to Level 2. Unfortunately, despite being faced with a wizard, a cleric, a commoner and a dog, the party decided to concentrate their attack...on the dog. As such the conjuror had plenty of time to turn invisible, summon a monster and escape. He now appears now and then, but every time the party don't quite manage to kill him and he keeps escaping. They're Level 3 as well now and he's about to kick their arses again! |
| WhiteRaven81007-10-06, 07:57 PM | Scalebane. Half-Black Dragonwrought Kobold Sorcerer. A egotistical war lord who believes himself to be the son of Tiamat, a constant source of mayhem and destruction in the world, who believes the world should fold over as his subservent minions and is baffled as to why they would reject the living son of the Dragon Queen. |
| Terraneaux07-11-06, 04:37 AM | Sanse, an elf fighter/rogue who likes to sneak attack people with big two-handed weapons, like greatswords, and, more recently, a Goliath Greathammer. He's horribly sadistic, and enjoys torturing young non-elf children (especially girls) to death. He has a massive amount of racial pride and heads up a small enclave of elves who share his views. He was scarred by one of the PCs in my campaign, who decided to try torturing him back, and his skin healed and tightened so his face is contorted into a permanent smile. The whole reason he's recurring is that he has the favor of an evil demigod who keeps resurrecting him. |
| Banning07-11-06, 05:07 AM | For my group it was a lich... Okay so we're in this colloseumconsisting of 1v1 fights with all subdual damage. In the first round I'm taken out by a sorc using wail of the banshee. Round two my rogue friend meets the same fate. ****** off and bleeding from the ears my catfolk swashbuckler, and his half elf rogue decide to get some "payback" on him. We set up an ambush in the locker room of the arena and take him down HARD. Yay right? Wrong. About a month later the Sorc comes back as a lich and abducts me and my friend. We don't know how, but it happened... There was torture and deth involved along with ressurections and more death before we were freed. After escaping we technicaly didn't SEE him again, however we know hes still around somewhere. |
| Pelor_the_Shining_One07-11-06, 05:39 AM | oops, double post. |
| Pelor_the_Shining_One07-11-06, 05:40 AM | A re-occuring villian in a game that I play is a Vampire Centaur. He is the most fun villain ever! |
| hollow_ghost08-06-06, 10:10 PM | Not exactly DnD, but in a world similar. There is this Dark Angel that the GM keeps putting as the BBEG in our adventures, and it's near impossible to kill her for good. She keeps coming back. Once, she disguised herself and seduced the party druid. A month later, we know had their son to fight against. I don't really mind her, because it's usually with a face-off with her that I shine and stop doing stupid things and getting bad rolls (as in aiming for the big thing grappling the dragon ally with a legendary sling [Yes, a legendary sling. We each had our legendary item in this campaign. GM gave me a sling.]. I one-hit killed the dragon...). Then the Dark Angel comes along trying to steel a stone we have. She finally took it and was on a cliff laughing at us. I did a spell kinda like eyebite and she dropped the stone. In another campaign I was an archer. The kind of mistakes I did: being back-to-back with my friend, turning around and shooting. "But but... something was there!" What I did to the Dark Angel: "Your two arrows fly through the battlefield, narrowly missing others (two armies facing each other). You, [friend mentionned earlier], are down on your butt and see the Dark Angel charging you, bastard sword raised above her head. Suddenly, one arrow pierces one of her arm and blows up, followed by another arrow taking out her other arm. (Explosive arrows)." I had amputated her arms, allowing my friend to recover and slice n dice her. She came back, but it was awesome. |
| Thanqol08-08-06, 10:40 PM | A halfling barbarian named Toenails who is the epitome of filth, and walks around kicking a silver dragon's head like a football, has a lantern archon in a glass jar for illumination, and a necklace of moon dog (BoED) puppies. He doesn't understand that he's doing anything wrong. Has a habit of showing up at really bad times ^^ |
| zzatarr08-09-06, 01:22 PM | bump |
| Kyle_the_wizard08-09-06, 02:09 PM | Svian and the red crusaders. A gigantic band of kobalds who are attempting to catpure a small human country for them selves so they don't have to be subjected to slavery any more. My players were mad when i made the priests level 4 sorcerers with scorching ray and almost losing a party member. And next adventure they're going to find snowball the small white dragon mount of Svian the kobold leader |
| Kradlo08-09-06, 06:24 PM | Ah, recurring villains, so much fun. In L5R, I used a lady of the Scorpion clan, Yoko Saoko, as the love interest for one of the PCs. She became better known later as "psycho ninja b*tch from Hell." Ain't love grand? The PC himself, who was something of a royal bastard, showed up later in my campaign as an NPC villain. That was fun. I've enjoyed using a Dwarven thug named Borak on occasion. He's a leg breaker for the local mob, and is damned good at his job. Not much for subtlety, but he gets message across. Secret societies make great recurring "villains." Makes you want to yell, "Hail Hydra! Immortal Hydra! We shall never be destroyed!" |
| Altar_Boy08-09-06, 06:28 PM | The other PCs. No matter where I go, they're always there to claim part of the treasure. :weep: |
| allenchan08-09-06, 06:42 PM | My group really loved an NPC villian named Captain Katar in my Eberron swashbuckling game. He was a House Denieth mercenary that repeatedly showed up as a hired hand, then as a part of an opposing adventure group, and finally was hired by the BBEG because by that point he knew more about the PCs then most other people. He lived, as the party was eventually TPK'd by some Neogi, and if I ever had another Eberron game, he will certainly have a cameo. |
| Emjaysmash08-09-06, 07:13 PM | The most memorable Villian put up against our group was a man named "Happy the Bunny". (With a name like that, you know he is one sick individual.) He terrorized us for a job and made highly addictive drugs, (called "happy-happy Juice") as a hobby. One day, we finnaly killed him, and now he is being preserved by our party necromancer (for reasons he wont say. ) But we can all guess. |
| Aterum08-09-06, 07:35 PM | The NPC that was supposed to be a returning villain got killed the first night of the campaign... by the DMs girlfriend! The other PCs. No matter where I go, they're always there to claim part of the treasure. :weep: I thought this was sad... and funny. :D |
| Ashok_Lal08-10-06, 01:41 AM | Simon the thief!!! Master of diguise. Crafter of bogus magic items. (Another fine product from Simon inc) This is a Rule 0 NPC. Now my DM is threatening to bring him back in our new campaign. Kind of imagine Q from startreak (God i hate him) |
| Elucidus08-10-06, 02:25 AM | A few years ago, my group and I were early level and traveling between the towns and stumbled accross a displacer beast. We brought it to 0 HPs, it staggered and fell over. Not sure who, but someone decided it would be a good idea to sell him to the local mage guild. The ranger tied him up and we took him back to town and sold him for something like 3000 gold. The trip back was very memorable, as the beqast kept asking for food. And when we got to the guards of the town he asked if he was food, he wouldn't let us in and one of us looked at the guard as the displacer beast said that and he offered to let us in then. This was all well and good. It turns out that the mages experimented with him and one of them ended up mutating himself with the displacer beast and they became one character. Well the new creature, a humanoid displacer beast type thing had a battle of wills and the displacer beasts proved stronger. He hired us on a quest, in a very secretive way that we did not question too much, I think on our second mission for him, he attacked us on a ship. Apparently blaming us for his new state. I rememebr the battle well, he was going to throw us in the water, starting with the dwarf. Picked him up and I enlarged the dwarf at the same time. The dwarf fell on him and he escaped overboard himself. We ran into him again later on, but I can't remember what happened? |
| borninshadow08-10-06, 04:29 AM | Well, my favorite villain-y type character so far has probably been a lich with memory problems and a flair for flowers. Sits in his lair, reading odd books (our barbarian found "The Mating Habits of Halflings" among his collection) and rifling through drawers and whatnot. Currently he owes the party a debt (since they accidentally gave him back his phylactery) he's tolerating their company. Quite fun to ask him questions and have him fumble through his bad memory for an answer ;) Course his love of flowers is interesting too, since he was distracted enough by a bundle of flowers the party brought him that he pretty much ignored them. I enjoy him a lot :P -Aaron, second worst DM ever |
| Monsco08-11-06, 12:53 PM | In my champagne, there is this one human called Columbus. Every new moon, he comes to my level 26 monks village and gets his *** handed to him. he's completely hell bent on capturing the village for the army he's working for, even though they dont want it. Best of all, he always brings a array of weird solders to help him out. Why isn't he dead? 1) he either escapes a la vampire in Gaseous form 2) my monk is forbidden to kill him. still, he its always fun to see him come back and get walloped :twitch: |
| Aterum08-11-06, 01:24 PM | In the game I'm playing we have this ambigious NPC who is a lich. She has helped us before but she also raised the BBEG from the dead (she didn't make him evil though.) What makes her a villain is that she can see the future but whenever we need to talk to her she either suddenly disappears or the DM will end game. She'll be in the middle of breakfast and then she'll excuse herself and leave. Or the plot will radically change and we'll be forced to go somewhere far away from her (like the Underdark!!) In my champagne, there is this one human called Columbus. Every new moon, he comes to my level 26 monks village and gets his *** handed to him. he's completely hell bent on capturing the village for the army he's working for, even though they dont want it. | Heatseeker08-11-06, 01:30 PM | My DM's crazy. He constantly brings up a level 3 commoner named "Lamaman" that is dressed in a lama suit and constantly tries to kill us dead. The wierdest thing about it is his story. me and my adventuring party were visiting a store when he suddenly came out of nowhere and attacked us. ever since, we've always had to have someone on guard. still though, it's fun to stick arrows in him :dancin: |
