Here's one of my favorite and incredibly destructive combos from 2e: I had a 10th level fighter dual-class into a mage. I'm not sure what level I had the mage up to, might have been between 13-15, and he had over 100 hps, and high mastery in the quarterstaff. Cast Tensor's Transformation and Haste= juggernaut with over 200 hps that could kill almost anything singlehandedly. |

| GilaMonster08-12-05, 10:03 AM | I think mine must be silence and shatter. Both have got my previous group out of a couple of sticky situations. |
| Twisted Puppy08-12-05, 10:32 AM | For lower level casters, web. Great for making sure the enemy can't leave, or making sure you can. |
| Elrana08-12-05, 06:35 PM | I was playing in a group with a Rogue who hated mages. I mean really, really hated and wanted to kill them. Including me. This was a very proud and independent Rogue, brought up on the streets and convinced she needed no help from anybody. Annoy Rogue, (oh sorry, I think it's actually called Knock) made me smile every time the group had to ask me to cast it because the Rogue couldn't get through a lock! Me: I cast Annoy Rogue and tap lightly on the door. DM: It opens. Me: <Smug mode> Does that count as a new application for an existing spell?! :D |
| ^Graff_EpsilonIX08-12-05, 09:23 PM | twinned harm then inflict minor. mwhaaha! 3.0 is EVIL. |
| Rumple_Cragstan08-12-05, 09:29 PM | Web x Ray of Enfeeblement. The party in my last campaign took down a dragon 5 CRs above them with little more than chicken scratches.... they had weakened the dragon so much that it physically couldn't break out of the web spell, so they all just pelted on it until it died. Every once in a while it used its breath weapon, but they all spread out so it only ever hit one at a time. The fact that the mage had wands of magic missile was really horrible... there was no worry about the dragons AC or running out of spells >_< |
| chimp man08-13-05, 02:58 PM | sumon iron golem+heat meatal :evillaugh burn baby burn just got a burn. |

| Doklahar08-13-05, 04:44 PM | Wall of Fire and Hold Person/Monster It requires a little math, but you paralize a single opponent, then cast the wall of fire with a 10ft radius around the target. Then you have the fire damage affect the inside. It deals about... Now the math: Considering each 5ft section of wall puts off 2d4 damage (thats the big thing with this combo). This works by considering this: there are 2 Medium sized creatures next to each other in front of the wall. each takes 2d4 fire damage. Now, remove the second creature and wrap the wall around as in the exapmple below: / / M /_ _ _ and it would take 4d4 fire damage. Noe, with the creature in the middle of a 20ft diamater cylinder with a radius of: 20xpi=62.83185ft circomference 62.83185/5=12.56637 5ft squares, each dealling 2d4 fire damage. 12.56637x2d4=25.13274, round down to 25d4 fire damage. So, for a number of rounds equal to your caster level you deal 25d4 fire damage that allows a single will save per round against the hold spell. So an average caster who prepairs these spells can deal 175d4 or more damage with 2 spells (it just takes 7 rounds to do), as long as the target fails the saving throws. |
| Wil Harvey08-16-05, 11:54 AM | One side of the wall, selected by you, sends forth waves of heat, dealing 2d4 points of fire damage to creatures within 10 feet... That's it. 2d4. Nothing more. Fortunately, the damage dealt from this spell doesn't change if you're affected by 1 or more 5-feet sections of the wall. Why? I don't know. Maybe the magic is only capable of heating up a single creature by so much. Who knows? It's magic. I do know, though, that a creature on the damaging side of the wall takes 2d4 damage. Plus, anything that involves busting out the formula for finding the circumfrence of a circle has absolutely no place in any of my games. |
| Shashu X08-16-05, 02:20 PM | My favorite spell would have to be Flaming Sphere. It only does 2d6 dammage, but I like the novelty of chasing my enemies with a 5 foot ball of fire. |
| TinManFan08-16-05, 02:57 PM | Trollish Fort (all non fire/non acid dmg is non-lethal) Energy Immunity x2 (Take a guess which types) Favored of Illmater (Immune to non-lethal dmg) Play a Curst with Persistant Spell Immunity (Choose Remove Curse) and you're immortal. A dragon eating and digesting you is just a break in the action (Depending on the metabolism) |
| Norhg08-16-05, 03:27 PM | Trollish Fort (all non fire/non acid dmg is non-lethal) Energy Immunity x2 (Take a guess which types) Favored of Illmater (Immune to non-lethal dmg) That has a funny effect you know, you take full damage from everything but Acid and Fire. (...it is suggested...) |
| LCD2YOU08-16-05, 03:45 PM | I keep on forgetting if Grease or Glue are WotC core spells. I think Glue is WotC but they are both great. But Grease covers the same area as Glue and it is the same level. It is best used at the bottom of a sharp turn on a stone ledge. Watch your opponents lose their footing and good flying off of the ledge and into the chasm of Doom. Glue is also a great spell as the bad guys can't overwhelm you. Remember these when you're a 3rd level nothing Mage. |
| Red_Ninja08-16-05, 04:39 PM | Level 2 ninja (shadowfoot) / wizard 1 fast (move 40 light load) +3 to AC from dex, +3 to AC from int (artful dodge) MAGE ARMOR +4 to AC 3 lvl char has 20 AC, light load, no armor I love that! I also love... charm monster!- it can change the tide of battle especially vs those "minions" that usually don't have high Spell resistance or will saves... I hate the "prismatic" spray/wall/globe/fetus spells |
