| snakeman83002-20-07, 05:19 PM | My DM has recently been showing favoritism twoard my character. (not haveing a 1-hit-kill attack that I wouldn't survive target me) While this on it's own may not seem too bad, the real problem is that he hates the others in the party (purposely targeting said attack on others in group). My example is just one of many I could give, so don't say "Oh, that's not favoritism, he expected the others to survive it". His favoritism twoard me goes as far as letting me have a unique weapon (an automatic pistol in the standard D&D world) among other things. His hatred has involved sending an ancient pyroclastic dragon chasing after our monk when there was a barbarian (who out-damaged the monk) and a fighter pounding on it and me flinging high-damage spells into it's face. The monk had taken heavy damage and was running to save his own life. I suspect his hatred has come out of two sources: 1. one of the players is his older brother 2. My campaign. The monk is played by the same person (my brother) as the catfolk rouge in my campaign. He, admittably, has uncanny luck, but since the die rolls were out in the open, nobody can challenge it. The rouge is the only character that has been in the campaign since the beginning (the only one that hasn't died). My DM's character in the same campaign has changed so many times it's not funny due to death. They both have 15th level characters in my campaign. They started at level 1. Kind of a long explanation, (I'm sorry), but I need help. How can I get the DM to stop showing such favoritism for me and not to let his issues become the party's? |
| Krusk02-20-07, 07:44 PM | I had a dm who did the same to me. Unfortunatly there is almost nothing you can do about it. Even if you flat out say to the dm, stop favoring me. They will not. In the end my solution was to attempt the most ridicilus things i possibly could and see how much i could get away with until the other players said something about the favoritism to the dm. If you dont want to see what you can get away with first, just ask the other players if they notice it, and would like it changed. Have them bring it up to the dm. |
| Prator_the_Legendary02-20-07, 07:47 PM | Yeah, what he said. The powers of democracy, flagrant abuse, or some combination of both are yours to command. |
| snakeman83002-21-07, 09:01 PM | I had thought it obvious that his favoritism was not my biggest concern. Apparently not. Even though I don't like his favoritism, I'm more concerned for the subjects of his hatred. Are there any suggestions on how to get him to stop screwing them? If it also gets him to stop favoring me, that's a bonus, but not the main focus. The other players have noticed this and have left it up to me to keep their sorry butts alive from a wrathful DM. While it is interesting to watch him struggle on how to continue with his favorite player gaurding the others, I know it is only a matter of time until he does something that my influence won't stop, and I really don't want to have to deal with that. It's more fun when chracters last a while. |
| Prator_the_Legendary02-21-07, 09:17 PM | Interestingly enough, you can use EXACTLY the same tactics we've already described to stop the hating as well as the favoritism. The only difference is that I would lean more towards democracy and less towards flagrant abuse. |
| johnkretzer02-22-07, 12:21 PM | Do you know why he hates the other players and not you? I am confused by this. It is rare ,atleast in my experience, to come across this. I have seen favoritism but not hate against the other players. Or I have seen DMs just hate their group of players. But I haven't seen them combines in this light... Is he trying to show you favoritism to get you to show it to him in your game? |
| Magrus02-22-07, 01:16 PM | Threaten to stop gaming with him? Just a thought. He's immature and needs a reality check. A sudden "I don't have anyone to play with. I shouldn't have treated my players like crap..." might do the trick if he doesn't react to the threat in a positive manner when your group games without him. |

| johnkretzer02-24-07, 03:34 AM | I don't know for sure, but in my original post, I put my suspicions. Ok that is why he hates your brother.... why the others players and not you? I mean you have killed him alot? Why isn't he targetting you? |
| Raymond_Luxury_Yacht02-24-07, 03:47 AM | Do everything in your power to annoy him. Kill every NPC you meet. Cheat ludicrously and obviously (like rolling a 7 on a d6). Do other annoying things that I can't think of right now. |
| Solik02-24-07, 04:27 AM | Step 1: Verify that the other players feel this way. Step 2: Have the other players talk to him about it. Step 3: If the DM does not change, remove him. Some people just aren't mature enough to DM. |
| snakeman83002-24-07, 04:09 PM | I now have a way to hopefully stop his favoritism (demilich template from EPH should be effective). The problem of his hating remains. |
