Morbid4ngel 04-17-07, 12:26 AM	I have an arcane spell caster with Charisma as the main spell casting stat, and a race with a bonus to charisma as well. This puts me in a position to make use of alot of charisma based skills/feats that I previously (and many people in the circle of friends I play with) Ignored. It has been brought to my attention that there are 3 levels of fear, (Shaken, Frightened, and Panicked). This makes sense and all but I came to notice however that there's tons of ways to make people shaken. As a result of there being multiple ways, would effects from diffrent fear sources stack? or would they simply over-lap? This is going to determine greatly if I invest in certain prestige classes I have in mind. To clerify what I'm asking, lets say you have a class ablity like a fear aura that makes people shaken if they fail a will save whilst in your presence. That same person in the same round gets subjected to say, the Intimidate skill (Demorilize opponent, PHB pg. 76) Would they be considered 'shaken' still? or would the application of 'demorilize' opponent make them "frightened" as it is the 2nd step in the fear chain (due to them being effected by the first fear effect.) I haven't been able to get any clear awnsers on this so I turn to the boards for help. Thanks ahead of time for any information to clear this up. If possible: (Please give some refrence books/articles/eratta where such information about fear can be noted so I can present said information to my DM)
Azar 04-17-07, 12:46 AM	Page 294 of the DMG: "Becoming Even More Fearful: Fear effects are cumulative. A shaken character who is made shaken again becomes frightened..." So yes, if you had an aura of fear (Such as Frightful Presence) and preceded to demoralize a shaken opponent, they would instead by frightened.
