I was sitting around thinking yesterday and came up with this feat

Vaulting Slash

The warrior runs at his target, sticks his sword in the ground, pole vaults off it, pulls it out in mid air and comes down with a powerful spinning slash.

Prerequisites: STR 16, Cleave, must use a Great Sword, Claymore, or Bastard Sword

The warrior needs at least 15 feet between him and his target. he runs for the first five feet, stabs his sword in the ground, then flips through the air and slashes his target. He lands in the square in front of his target. The attack cuases an extra half of the damage onto the damage total. If the attack is critical it doubles the damage instead.

I don't want to play down your description of how the feat works, but really there is already a feat that duplicates this maneuver, called Leap Attack. You can find it in the Complete Adventurer book, essentially combining a jump-charge with a power attack.

I see a problem here ... it is in the term "Pole Vault". It is so called because you use a pole to do it. If you could do it with a sword, it would be called "sword vault". Swords have many uses, but vaulting off them is not a recomended tactic; swords have a weak side that can snap, and on soft ground ... well it's not much of a vault, put it that way. Further, the pole is a lot longer than a sword (even a Greatsword). If you watch pole-vaulters, they start with their hands low down on the pole and more or less climb it as it swings over.

A major prerequisite shpould also be tumble at 5 ranks minimum (it's a very gymnastic move). I would use instead one of the leaping attack feats or tumbling attack feats. When I trained at ninjitsu we practiced a sword-draw combined with a roll that took us below an attack, past an attacker and hamstrung him as we came out of the roll - that's a more realistic move than trying to pole-vault up a great sword  ....

good points, i was thinking of it as a cool move more then a realistic one.

I would say it has to be done with a slashing reach weapon, and maybe require a jump cheack, increaseing with the distance they vault.
and if you wanted to be mean, you could require a balance check at the end or they fall prone :D

actually, it's a preatty cool idea.
vault over a line of towe-shield using enemies and land amongest their archers/casters and unlease a can of glaive-butt-kick'n!

maybe pole vualting was the wrong word, it would be more like flipping over the sword to put your body weight into the slash.

Leap Attack, from Complete Adventurer.

That would still leave the question how you put your sword on the ground in a way that makes sure it doesn't slide away. People who pole-vault usually do that on stable ground that provides them with a lot of grip and use relatively square poles instead of slim blades.
By the way, putting your body weight into the slash is what a charge is all about. If you however flip over your sword, how do you pull a clumsy Great Sword all the way back from behind your body to the enemy without losing your momentum? I may picture this wrong, but it sounds difficult to me.

If you want the fluff, take leap attack.
