| AngelicWarlock01-01-04, 12:58 PM | Looking for a female gamer to play in a new online campaign. It's a first level medium-magic campaign. No extreme changes to the game or anything. The party is likely going to be 3-4 people in size, it is currently 2. If ya would like to join or have questions on the campaign's details message me at AIM screenname Mezerous or MasterOfPuppets38@hotmail.com, or my friend at AIM screenname BurnItLoseIt or Burn_Rock_and_Roll@hotmail.com. We use mIRC to play. AngelicWarlock |
| Morthec_Gruan01-01-04, 01:02 PM | Last time you posted my AIM and MSN, hookers camped out on my lawn for 3 days! I had to fend them off with sprinklers and a hose...:smirk: |
| satyrgrrrrl01-01-04, 03:45 PM | First off, try here: RPG GAMERS CLASSIFIEDS (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=347) Secondly, because it just begs the question: why does it have to be a female gamer? |
| wdarkk01-01-04, 04:48 PM | Third, how will you tell online? |
| satyrgrrrrl01-01-04, 06:41 PM | Originally posted by wdarkk Third, how will you tell online? Good point. I'm still  .... |
| AngelicWarlock01-01-04, 07:24 PM | Yeah, sorry, I shoulda said just to email one of us. I'm lookin for a female player because my games are almost always too masculine. It'd be nice to have a change in that matter(I have had one before, but she was a horrible roleplayer and turned the games into "every man/woman for himself" basically). I've already had one person message me and it seems she wants to play, so I've got one space left. If yer still interested e-mail MasterOfPuppets38@hotmail.com or somethin. |
| DakezDarkenblood01-02-04, 10:59 AM | Too masculine? Not sure what that means... but every woman I've gamed with has taken my game to new levels of destruction and mayhem. |
| Bacon and Eggs01-02-04, 11:23 AM | Can it be a boy pretending to be a girl? Now that's Role Playing. |
| satyrgrrrrl01-02-04, 04:42 PM | Originally posted by DakezDarkenblood Too masculine? Not sure what that means... Yeah, I'm with you. Maybe not on the destruction and mayhem, but definitely with the "too masculine". But oh well. Hope you find your gamer. |
| Morthec_Gruan01-02-04, 04:52 PM | Use some :censored:ing common sense guys... :censored: you're all the people supposed IQ's of 300 eh? You must be pretty :censored:'ed up... Dumb:censored:'s |
| Felonious Monk01-02-04, 05:04 PM | I agree with DD - the two women in my campaign are the barbarian and the rogue, and both very likely to be the players who make me say, "Roll for initiative." |
| AngelicWarlock01-02-04, 05:16 PM | By too masculine... I don't know. Basically it's just because there aren't any women playing. I understand games go on like this all of the time, but still. From the experience I've had, the women do seem to be the better roleplayers(no offense to anyone out there), even if they do destroy and such. |
| Avalongod01-03-04, 02:22 AM | Originally posted by AngelicWarlock From the experience I've had, the women do seem to be the better roleplayers(no offense to anyone out there), even if they do destroy and such. I always get a kick out of people who say something negative, and then say "no offense"...Could you imagine Hitler "The Jews are the root of all of Germany's problems and I'm going to make it my life's work to kill every one...no offense mind you" :b: Can it be a boy pretending to be a girl? Now that's Role Playing. I've done this a couple of times. Pretty fun. Some DMs don't like it though...some seem to think playing an opposite sex character is a sign of latent transsexualism. |
| DakezDarkenblood01-03-04, 09:54 AM | I played with a guy for a bit who ONLY played C to DD cup charisma 16+ elven or half-elven women (or the game system's closest corresponding race) and always made it a point to describe how scantily they were clad and periodically made some ... well... odd... comments. I don't think he had latent transexual feelings (though it's not impossible). I think he was just immature. And I think a lot of DMs, especially online where things can get mixed up anyways, are afraid thats the kind of immaturity that will be brought to the table - virtual or abused kitchen - if they allow crossplay. |

Exactly what I'm getting at. I've only ever had a guy play a girl ONCE in my games, and even then it was with a female player(who I won't play with or talk to anymore), and there was a heavy 'romance' there so... |

And I think a lot of DMs, especially online where things can get mixed up anyways, are afraid thats the kind of immaturity that will be brought to the table - virtual or abused kitchen - if they allow crossplay. While it's a legitimate concern-- not everyone is mature enough to tie a shoelace without supervision-- I think it depends on the player. I could play a female character in an online game, and I seriously doubt anyone else in the group could tell I'm not one. It has nothing to to with transsexuality, latent or otherwise, and everything to do with the fact that I do a good deal of writing and acting in my spare time. As always, though, it depends on the person. There are some guys in my group that I'd certainly let play female characters without giving it a moment of concern. There are other guys in the same group that I know couldn't handle it. |
| Avalongod01-03-04, 11:46 AM | True...I could see where the immaturity could come in. Playing a character in order to have your own pin-up would be problematic for most campaigns. This could be solved by having the players write up a brief background for their characters and scrutinizing it for intent. If the background was along the lines of "...after serving several years in Selune's temple at Silverymoon, she was sent on a quest to recover..." then the player is more likely to be mature about playing cross-gender. If on the other hand "...after several years working as a topless bar-wench..." or "...having perfected a technique for knitting her own chainmail thong..." shows up anywhere, it is probably time to veto that character. |
| Lewin01-03-04, 11:41 PM | Both of the female players in my party play the "my character is chaotic neutral, but I play it chaotic evil". They have no compunction against torture, murder, greed, or anything else if it helps them reach their goal. Definitely an "ends justify the means" type of play. Seems like some women have a lot of pent up desire to do what they want with all of the apparent pressure to conform to society's whims. |

Not sure what that means... but every woman I've gamed with has taken my game to new levels of destruction and mayhem. No! Everyone knows female gamers are into parlaying and would NEVER attack things on sight! I mean, my drow cleric of Mystra would NEVER attack the cleric of Cyric with with a disintergration spell to the face, JUST for being a cleric of Cyric! My gaming group calls me BoomBoom just as a term of endearment!:D |
| Morthec_Gruan01-04-04, 10:17 AM | Thats great GayGoddess, but I think you should all stick to the thread topic and stop having this as a debate |
| Avalongod01-04-04, 12:32 PM | I think she is trying to be sarcastic to make a point and I think that she is basically on topic. |
| Morthec_Gruan01-04-04, 12:35 PM | I don't want this to turn into an argument thread, but if she's not asking about the campaign, or requesting to join, she's not talking about the thread. |
| YaoiGoddess01-04-04, 12:47 PM | Originally posted by Morthec_Gruan Thats great GayGoddess, but I think you should all stick to the thread topic and stop having this as a debate Get a :censored: sense of humor. You're the one starting the arguement. And it's YaoiGoddess not GayGoddess...I don't really appreciate people casting aspersions about my sexual orientation. If you knew anything about anime, you'd know Yaoi is for straight women. So shut the :censored: up! |
| Morthec_Gruan01-04-04, 02:00 PM | The direct translation of "yaoi" is gay, or gay related activity |
| Bacon and Eggs01-04-04, 02:01 PM | But what girl in her right mind would want to subject themselves to this kind of testosterone? (Looking at the posts above that is) |
| satyrgrrrrl01-04-04, 02:36 PM | Originally posted by Morthec_Gruan The direct translation of "yaoi" is gay, or gay related activity Direct towards a femal audience. Yaoi is a woman's genre of manga (comic books) and short stories, produced by female artists and writers for the enjoyment of female readers. It's a fantasy form which focuses on the romantic, emotional — and above all — sexual relationships of guys together. So, she's not a "gay" goddess, she's a goddess who enjoys the relationships between two men. Besides, making attacks on people because of their handle is just rude. So is calling someone gay as an insult. To the original poster: This isn't the right forum for your request, as it is trying to find players, not asking what a player should do in a situation. Also, I think you're looking for the wrong thing. Women aren't better role-players than men. And a hack-and-slack game isn't "masculine", nor is a role-playing game "feminine". There are good male role-players, and bad female ones. Gender doesn't determine role-playing ability. Perhaps you should ask for someone who really wants to roleplay. In The RPG Gamer Classifieds (http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=347) |
| YaoiGoddess01-04-04, 07:25 PM | Originally posted by Morthec_Gruan The direct translation of "yaoi" is gay, or gay related activity WRONG! There is NO 'direct translation' for yaoi, since it isn't a word. Yaoi is an acronym for 'yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi': no mountain (ie peak; climax), no point, no meaning. :teach: But what girl in her right mind would want to subject themselves to this kind of testosterone? (Looking at the posts above that is) Bacon, are you taking about my post? If you are, you realize I am female, right? If you aren't, disregard this reply:D satyrgrrrrl Thanks for your reply!:ayyyy!: |

Ummm...threads have been known to move on past the original post. Particularly as you posted this in the wrong area anyway, I think other posters are within their rights to take this post elsewhere from where you might have originally intended. I think this post had moved on to the rationalle behind looking for female gamers specifically. As far as that goes, YaoiGoddess (spelling?) seemed on task to me. Don't like where the thread goes...don't post threads. Or at least post them in the right area. In the RPG Classifieds you'd have merit being upset if an "I'm looking for players" thread got highjacked. |
| Bacon and Eggs01-04-04, 09:21 PM | Originally posted by YaoiGoddess Bacon, are you taking about my post? If you are, you realize I am female, right? If you aren't, disregard this reply:D Well, it was not directed at you. But I'm going to reply anyhow. That's just the type of guy that I am. I think that mixed gendered groups are beneficial as there are cases of one gender upping their ability (in pretty much anything) to attempt to impress the opposite gender. But having a mixed gender group is a privledge not a right. Anyhoo, I'm looped. http://www.geocities.com/baconandeggs2/Nov2003/Male.txt + http://www.geocities.com/baconandeggs2/Nov2003/Female.txt |

If you're going to insult someone, at least quote them so that people know to what you are referring. What's more, you just seem to be raring for a fight. What's wrong? Bad day at work/school/whatever? Anyhow, back on topic, I'd say that just because someone's a girl doesn't mean they're not "masculine" in their playing style. My friend's ex-girlfriend was positively evil, both as a PC and as a DM. Violence, definitely not a stranger. Anyhow, perhaps you should ask instead for someone who can play a sensitive, kind character? Just my two cents. Edit: Interesting to know, YaoiGoddess. One really does learn something new every day. At least, I didn't know that. |

In all cases, he resorts to childish humor, overuse of the :censored: Smilie, and/or personal attacks. And he wonders why the ladies aren't lining up to play in his group? |

| Timewilltell01-06-04, 10:42 PM | The only thing that sets my female playr from the rest of the group is that she is not so inclined to make OoC jokes every 20 seconds. |
| Cloud Strife01-07-04, 04:53 AM | In my gaming group we are 7 males only, and the ooc jokes and childish humor can sometimes reach epic proportions. I think that if we had a serious female gamer in the group we'd be more careful with the childish humor and possibly even RP more. Only thing is that where I live there are almost no-one that plays d&d, and those that do are nowhere to be seen as they just sit inside all day infront of their computers exactly as I do  We just need to face the fact that girls make guys behave! |

Which can be seen on any of the social boards in this place. Well, it's something that I have noticed anyhow. If there are a cluster of males playing then the state of conversation is usually a bunch of rambling usually in the form of a (let's say) whizzing contest. But the moment that a female joins those ranks then the style conforms to more of a "playing a role" aspect. But the boys choose this behaviour without being asked or made to do it. Curious. |

| Bacon and Eggs01-08-04, 01:52 PM | It's not an apology ... and has to do with Women and Men being the same, because if you can explain the difference without peronal bias that would be great! |

| Bacon and Eggs01-08-04, 02:32 PM | Well, I'm looking at a few pic now... for educational purposes of course. :mymy: I've seen the same gaming behaviours in both genders so often that I don't know if there is a differnece in their styles. What I do find facinating is when the two are mixed. Then individually the style of role playing changes on a case by case basis per person, boys and girls. Which is part of the sub-topic, why a girl is desired to play more so then a boy. Didn't mention if the girl was a hack and slash type, or a heavey Expressive type. Just a girl was needed, RP-type is irrelevent. |

Didn't mention if the girl was a hack and slash type, or a heavey Expressive type. Just a girl was needed, RP-type is irrelevent. Exactly. And that's just silly. Girls don't rp better than boys. Heck, girls don't even rp differently than boys. People rp differently from other people, regardless of gender. I have had hack-and-slash guys and girls, guys and girls who do nothing but make jokes OOC, and guys and girls who really get into their characters and hardly say anything OOC. And a hundred other variations. And most of these posts have been saying much of the same thing. If you're looking for a player who's really into role-playing, then say that. Don't ask for a female player just because you think they role-play better, because they don't. It just shows your bias and belief in stereotyping. |

| satyrgrrrrl01-08-04, 04:38 PM | Originally posted by Daemongar ROTFLMAO! Sheesh - what are they teaching in schools nowadays? Hm... That men and women should be treated and expected to behave the same way? I believe Bacon and Eggs was speaking about role-playing, not purely physical attributes. We all know there are physical differences between men and women... Bacon and Eggs was looking beyond that. And we could get into an argument over the "natural" behavior of men and women, but that really isn't a good debate, as there is no definitive conclusion on the whole "nature vs. nuture" fiasco, and would probably just degenerate into anecdotes and gender stereotyping. And run-on sentences. |
| bitnine01-08-04, 05:38 PM | Hell, I think that the most feminine member of my current gaming group is currently not female. Though that might be a different topic. |
| pascalnz01-08-04, 11:59 PM | everyone does roleplay the same satyr grrrl but when a member of the opposite sex joins a groupcomprised entirely of the other sex it does change the dynamic. this has nothing to do with how we roleplay but everything to do with how we deal with the other sex. I know this question won't lead to any great all encompassing answer but.. just out of curiosity has anyone ever played with a girl who wasn't at least as violent as the guys? and ,as a bonus question, for any women [y'know you can always call boys or men "guys" but girls or women.. "gals" doesn't seem to fit so well] how would you rate your own playing style ? I just want to get a tiny slice of info from the people on the board ...thankyou |
| satyrgrrrrl01-09-04, 01:28 AM | Well, being "at least as violent as the guys" is a relative term. I have a female player who is consistantly more violent than any of the guys (she likes to play warriors), and I have some guys who are more interested in playing "talkers". Actually, most of my guy players have played characters that would rather talk than fight. Hm. I, myself, have played warriors, socialites, occultists, and space pilots. I usually don't find myself being too terribly violent, but I certainly enjoy a good fight. Ultimately, I play to do cool stuff. Saving the universe, uncovering mystical artifacts, trying to counter an Antedeluvian's plot, whatever. That's why I end up playing varied characters. I understand the change in dynamic for including a member of the opposite sex, and I can even agree that it happens (not that it should happen or that it's a good thing, but that's a whole 'nother rant); what I was so against was this assumption that women are better role-players than men. It's just silly, and I'm glad to see there are people here who see it that way. |
