If it just says "Hitdice" or "HD" Class hitdice grant abilities, if it specifies racial, then you need racial HD.

I would advise against using the feral template anyways. It's a holdover from 3.0 with a missprint on the level adjustment. I personally think it is closer to a +3 due to it's numerous combat oriented abilities.

The core races(Humans and such) only have 1HD which is replaced by a class level.

So, for 1HD creatures that get the switch, Class HD = Racial HD.

This has been brought up many times and that was the answer that came from R&D.

Hope that helps. :)

WRONG

racial Hit Die
The Hit Dice a monster has by virtue of what type of creature it is. Hit Dice gained from taking class levels are not racial Hit Dice.

Feral powers are based on Racial HD, so no, you do not get the shiny feral powers.

The context was for the purposes of the feat, according to tech support class HD also works for gaining advancing powers.

Actually, the Special Attacks from the Feral template is based on Hit Dice, not Racial Hit Dice. Therefor a characters Hit Dice from Class lvl's would contribute to which Special Attacks is available.

My copy says Racial HD, but you mileage will vary.

They don't mention "Racial Hit Dice" but I've found this sentence under the Special Attacks:

It gains the special attacks indicated in the row corresponding to its monster Hit Dice, plus all those in previous rows.

"Monster Hit Dice" is not used anywhere else on the template, so that's the only occurence. YMMV about what this means.

Personally, for balance's sake, I'd only apply it to creatures with monster HDs, or a very high level character. Level Adjustments have an exponential cost, so adding +1 on top of another +1 or +2 is much bigger than a single +1.

Wait. Im only looking under Special Attacks right now. And i just double-tjecked. My irl copy says 'Hit Dice'. Could it have been changed in later prints?
