Right now my friend and I are battling Hextor or it was his son I forgot exactly. My friend's charachter is a level 4 Wood-Elf. He is a fighter and something else but they won't tell me what that other class is but the only clue to that class is the mention of his guardian powers showing and his weapon is a great sword, a greater great sword and +7 great sword called excelcius(I think it was called that) My charachter is a level 1 Young Adult Steel dragon and is a cleric. The only difference in level is because they are still in school and I'm in college right now and it makes it hard to hang out except on the weekends. I could say there is nothing to worry about but my HP, Armor class have been reduced by 3/4 and my only weapon is a scimitar and a claw weapon with the symbol of the elf goddes on it. The goal of the campaign is to take out the wizards Humans and Elves who are forcing a war between the humans and (Wood-elves mainly). And also there is supposedly 2 othe charachters on the way or whenever we meet them 1 is a npc and the other is played by one of my other friends. What should I do?
When using polymormh you can just transform into about anything right? One of my ideas is to transform into something that is really quick in order to try to defeat the monster any help would do and a listing of creature(s) that have a lot of dex or whatever the stat is that represents their speed.

You're fighting a god with a level 4 Pc and a young dragon?

Don't try to polymorph (unless you could polymorph into hextor...), FLEE!!! Or, no, scratch that. Don't bother fleeing. he is a god. He's gonna catch you anyway.

What he said. Even if you are a high level character, any God will crush you into pieces after torturing you (if the god is an evil one, like Hextor!), so, if you still didn't get it, you wouldn't stand a chance even against a common priest of Hextor, because you aren't powerful enough to challenge him, let alone defeat him. If your DM told you that you ARE fighting the God as a BBEG, then remind your DM that you are way too much behind a God.

I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit - it's the only way to be sure.

Failing the possesion of nukes or their equivalent, I would simply CdG myself, effectively spitting in the god's eye, denying him the kill.

I guess, I should have also said was before my friend's charachter was knocked out cold. He attacked with excelcius he slashed a gash into him that it was close enough where possibly with one more hit from it we could see inside his head. His other class which, I don't know what it is could have a say into it why he was able to cause such damage and i just remembered an effect of the sword roll a percentile if it was a critical. If you rolled between 40-60 you were safe any higher or lower than the number suffered con damage but the attack was quadrupled. And of course there is probably a hidden weapon which will help us win the fight. The last campaign where he was the DM we went into hell to stop a war between the demonlords while fighting the god clones along the way a couple of evil gods decided to aid the demonlords. My charachter with a +7 Holy Great Sword of Lightning faced Nerull and Orcus one-on-one and survived and my charachter was a level 11 Neutral Half Human/Half Gold Dragon. I wanted your input on this before my friends and I meet again and continue the battle.

Whoever your DM is doesn't know how to run gods. Any powerful god is immune to damage done by anyone who doesn't have divine ranks... I don't care what kind of weapon you have, it just wouldn't do enough damage to hurt him. DR 50/epic, huge amounts of fast healing, both very easy to get even for a low-ranking god. It is a GOD afterall...

Any powerful god WILL win initiative, and WILL kill anyone without several hundred HP in a single round.

My sugjestion... don't fight him, you can't win unless your DM is a fool. Not being mean or anything, but it's true.

My DM is a little bit psychotic when it come's to pushing the limit like our confrontation with Hextor. Well, I called him for a recap on what happened the last time we played to refresh my memory and he forgot to tell my friend and I before we left that it is Hextor's son and he is widening a portal to the plane of coruption or um, I already forgot what it was called but it has a part to do with the war between the Humans and Wood-elves. Well Hextor's son is so busy with the portal the DM claims we could pretty much continuslly coup-de-gra(I think this is how you spell it) but, I can't attack because the fighter doesn't have any healing potions or any healing spells in case I got knocked out cold and I don't know about his other class if it has any healing spells. The only advantage what the DM claims to be an advantage is that Hextor's son is focussing all his strength and mentallity into widenning the portal that he is not healing his wounds.

01-14-05, 07:02 PM
Well, if it's that easy to kill him, then you could just coup de grace him like your DM said you could. Then you should probably ask Hextor's brother if you could hang out at his house for the next couple of centuries. If he doesn't have visiting hours at the moment, you should seriously consider Phrennzy's advice.

Why bother with a wuss like Hextor go stright to AO and then become the god of gods.

I recall the build of two characters, using highly improbable magic and items, along with every loophole savage species contains, a bunch of PrCs (all WoTC though) to create two level 20 characters capable of killing hextor and herienous both in a single round, even if they were on different planes.

I'd still say you're in for a short combat and a slow painful death. You don't seem to have near the ranks in munchkinism as they did.

Of all the posts I have ever read, this one is my favorite. I do have a couple of questions though.

What in the world is a charachter, and what college do you attend?

What did you see when you looked in Hextor's head?

Finally, has anyone in your group, including the DM, ever opened an actual Dungeons and Dragons rulebook?

That is all.

To your qustions

Your PC, I keep on misspelling the word they should add spell check to the Wizards.Community Boards and I will not say what college, I attend.

What did you see when you looked in Hextor's head?
I saw a very huge slash and could see faintlly blood vessels and part of the skull.

Finally, has anyone in your group, including the DM, ever opened an actual Dungeons and Dragons rulebook?
Yes. The DM has been playing a few years longer than us. I have a DM guide what page and paragraph, am I supposed to look at? I havn't had a chance to read it yet, I bought it yesterday.

Clearly your DM isn't playing this guy by the actual god rules, because you're doing quite a good job of killing him. Maybe he's not really Hextor's son? Maybe it's an illusion, or a bluff...

Because players are power freaks. It's basically so that the DM has a better leg to stand on when he says "no, you can't kill God". It's a battle against the "because I said so" theme of DMing.

Ouch. An incrideble mistake made by WOTC was providing STATS for the gods. STATS. Even Divine (with a capital D) feats.

1): Who cares if a greater deity can use divine true sight at 1245.8956432Xpi square at will and got a BAB of a few millions? He's a GOD. He should be a concept, not a statistical character.

2): The sheer stupidity of a god failing his fort saving throw against a death attack made by a level low-level assassin or failing to nuke the heroe with improved ungodly-übered improved greater empowered maximized divinely-twinked utterly unsoakable flame strike (the god CHANNEL a small part of his divine might to his priest all across the realms. If 100 priests can use flame strike at once, just immagine what the source of that power (the god) can do in person.

3): A sad fact of RPG: Anything that got stats is killable. nothing's immortal unless stats-less.

And beside, your DM and your group probably suffer from delusions of grandeur (or utter dependancy on Skittles)

I agree completely. I'm tempted to say "Amen", but the plot devices might not like it.

The gods aren't even statted well. In mythology, you frequently see battles between gods (Ragnarok was mentioned, and of course the Greek gods fought all the time). However, due to the Divine Rank system, any battle between deities not of the same divine rank is an easy win for the higher ranked deity. And there are 20 different divine ranks! The odds of any two being the same rank are pretty small.

I never really liked the way wizards tried to deal with the gods. I tend to assume that gods have two forms: their avatar which can surface once in a while for a short time which has slightly better stats than they did in life, and their form the rest of the time which is a imaterial conciousness bound to the outer planes which feeds on the energy generated by worshippers. Kill the avatar and the greater form loses part of its mind and possibly dies. Kill the greater form and the avatar either falls or is destroyed. This allows for epic level characters to fight gods and for gods to fight each other while still keeping the game bound within a more regular structure.

Could someone help me find my brain, it slipped out of my nose somewhere around the fourth post. . . .

I remember DMs and their adolescent obsession with power games, but this is ridiculous. One character has a +7 great sword (which should cap at +5 with some magical powers at most), and the highest lvl character is 4th? Oops, I think I slipped on some brain matter, which means I found my brain and so I am leaving now.

I think my brain is hemmoraging sanity after reading that.

You. Are Fighting a GOD... At level 4...

That fight would go like this. "Okay. You're dead. And you're dead, too."

It would be just like that. A God can pretty much kill anyone without any save at any time and place they give enough of a damn to do so.

Yea, but then it gives characters a goal to shoot for. After all, if you can kill Gruumsh, or Hextor, or Cyric, or any god ever, then aren't you just the baddest thing ever?

Basically creating a character to fight a god is the ultimate definition of Munchkin I have ever seen.

Sure, if you are bored one night and want to run a 1v1 combat that doesn't involved plots, storylines, or has any actual bearing on the campaign, then go for it. But the second it becomes part of the story, the god should win flat out.

She doesn't have stats, she has a stat, singular. She's still inviolate until they give her a second stat. ;)

Here is some advice:
Tell your DM to buy a Monsters Manual, and run a normal D&D game for once.
A 4th level fighter should have great difficulty fighting, say, a frost giant. No way are you ready to do battle with a god.

But since he's got a +7 Greatest Greater Great Sword of Greatness, you can check out the Monsters Manual II, where there are some pretty challenging stuff for you to kill.

DMs like this make Baby Jesus cry. :weep:

To continue the Aliens dialogue ... the next time you see your DM, you should say, "Get away from [me] you b*****!"

I'm not sure what a "Greater Great Sword" is, but I think a "Shorter Short Sword" is also called a "Dagger." Also, following the format for superlatives, one might assume that, somewhere out there, the "Greatest Great Sword" remains hidden, waiting to be found.

The only time I have actually fought a god was when the DM had us start out as demigods, it was part of the story (basically a divine power struggle) and quiet intresting actually.
Ze_Mighty_Vegetable

02-02-05, 02:06 PM
Don't forget the other combinations... The Shorter Great Sword is actually a long sword. The Greater Short Sword is a longsword. The Greater Dagger is a short sword and so on... Über-Lesser Great Sword would be a dagger.

Let's face it, a rogue has more class when he say I sneak attack him with my Über-Lesser Greater Sword than when he call it a dagger.

Beside, it allows you to fight 2-weapon style with a Greater Large Dagger and a Lesser Shortsword (the dagger being the longsword and the shortsword being the dagger). Oh, the possibilities...

LOL ZMV

I don’t know why but this exchange reminds me of a player I knew about twenty years ago. He was a real nice guy and a very earnest player, but he just wasn’t that bright. I was DMing at the time and his Thief’s inventory list included two “Daggars.” Of course, he pronounced the word “Dagger,” but I was too intrigued by his spelling to let the matter drop. I decided to add the “Daggar” (pronounced “Dag-gar” with the “gar” rolled as in Pirate Talk … “gaarrrrr”) to the repertoire of weapons in my world. It had identical stats as a “Dagger,” but had a slightly different appearance. The “Daggar” became a mainstay in our games for years to come.

On a side note to the suggestions of nuclear attack:

In Greyhawk 2000 (from Dungeon mag), they finally killed Iuz in CY 1956 (I think) with a combined nuclear, biological, and chemical strike. However, this turned the former Kingdom of Iuz into a vast, radioactive wasteland that spawns the occasional mutated monster.

Well...

The reason they stat out gods has less to do with munchkinism and more to do with their origins. In most D&D mythologies, gods are simply ascended mortals. Become powerful enough, and your character could become a god. How do you know when you are powerful enough? You kill another god.

Er... wait... that is munchkinism. At least, it is in most circumstances in which it is implemented. It would take a strangely mature group to have an encounter with a god have any meaning. No offense...

As for the original poster and his dilemma, I have exactly no idea what you are asking, and I find the premise (as I interpret it) of your post to be utterly ridiculous within the context of the rules as I understand them.
