I have a PC in a town that revolves around arena combat. It was my goal to attain championship status and cement my place in the ranks of the towns elite - perhaps rule it as the champion has huge sway in the town. My DM has encouraged this from day one but told me a while ago that the current champion is a Titan with 10 fighter levels!

Now I feel my PC has no chance against this guy, I assume as I am a straight fighter(16)/barbarian(5) - made initially for arena combat. Ive played the guy for years but we do not play the game anymore as I have a fear I will lose my guy. I guess I could adventure more in the hopes of gaining powerful magic items to aid me but still! Do you think a straight fighter type character would ever have a chance of beating this behemoth?

Do you have to actually kill him?

If you have a means of contacting the Titan, ask him if he'd take a dive for you. Offer him all the money and then some if he does, or even ask him if you could do a QUEST for him (might give the DM a good idea of an adventure hook) in exchange for him taking a dive.

If he can't feign it and has to actually die, that's another quest to figure out how to bribe the guards, fake blood, all that good stuff.

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it's a new approach and I hope it's helped.

copious amounts of poison in his wine:P . or try to get him in a tight spot. those "summon a tree" items and the instant fortress make very good ways to get cover. hurts his hit chance, and his armor if he tries to come after you

Do you stand a chance in an arena against this thing? No, not really, at all in fact. The champion is effectively a CR 31 vs your level 21 character. Such a creature wouldn't be some local champion it would be famous throughout the world, the country that could count on it's alliegence would have unrivalled military power. This is the type of creature that would be the champion of Sigil's arena, anything short of a diety is going to have pause for thought before tackling something like this.

It's full attack is going to be minimum +50/+45/+40/+35/+30/+25 each of which will deal an average of 45 damage on a hit. You're also looking at minimum 600hp. Then there's considerations like reach, change shape, quickened spell like abilities, damage reduction and last but not least, its feats like improved sunder which will have been expanded and improved by its 10 fighter levels.

Short answer, either find a way to get sponsored for Godhood before you tackle this thing or settle for second place and make good friends with this creature because you sure as hell don't want to be its enemy.

Fixed. DMG states that you gain no new attacks once you hit a certain point. For him to have six attacks, he would need ITWF.

I really like they way you are thinking. I had not thought of it this way and it could really make for some good gaming. The potential is there for a great adventure before I have to die at his things hands. :D

This is what I thought. I asked the DM why this Titan which is practically a demigod is a champion of some backwater, seedy hole of a metropolis. He said the Titan is corrupted and under the control of another within the town - bound to him through some controlling magics.

With the above ideas and yours I am going to suggest that I seek out the root of this manipulation and eliminate it. Potentially making a Titan ally in the process by freeing him form slavery or whatever is controlling/influencing him.

Then maybe I can ask him to take a dive for me! :D

So now, not only are you dealing with a godlike being, you're dealing with its master?! Ugh. On the bright side, IF you succeed in freeing him, chances are he'll just abdicate the title and go home.
