Fighting with 2 Double Weapons...??? [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-17-07, 01:24 PM Hello everyone. I have a character that I want to be able to use 2 two-bladed swords. Is there rules for this so that he could fight with both ends of them during combat?

"A creature wielding a [double weapon] in one hand can’t use it as a double weapon—only one end of the weapon can be used in any given round."

The only way around this is to play a character with 4 arms.

Thri-keen is the usual choice for things such as these.

You need to use two hands to use both sides of a double weapon. Even if you had one double weapon and one light weapon, you would still be holding the double weapon in one hand, which only allows you the use of one side of it.

If you had four hands and arms, you could wield two double weapons, each in two hands, allowing you to use both sides on both of them.

There is a rule that covers this. It's called common sense.

02-19-07, 04:55 PM Here's the skinny: (I know all about this since I'm playing a four-armed Thri-Kreen Ranger).

Usually, when you wield a double weapon in two hands, it counts as wielding a one-handed weapon and a light weapon (for determining penalties). The entry for the Thri-Kreen's racial double weapon in ExpPsiHand, the Githka, states that a Thri-Kreen may wield two Githkas, but if he does, each Githka off-hand attack counts as a one-handed weapon.

So, if you want to play with four arms and roll four dice, doing it with two double weapons will come out to a higher penalty than, say, four short swords. If you are really gung-ho about the whole double double weapon thing (like I am), take the feats Multiweapon Fighting (obv.) and Oversize Two-Weapon Fighting. How the latter applies to this strategy is a little unclear, but my DM says it works.

02-19-07, 04:58 PM Doesn't matter. True, it's a one-handed weapon instead of a 2-handed, but the rules with double weapons still apply.

Easiest way to fight with two two-bladed swords is to have a Xill character. Another way is to have permanent Blessing of the Garillion (SS) cast on him. This comes with some annoying penalties, making it more trouble than it is worth.

02-19-07, 05:25 PM A Tri-Kreen with Multi-weapon fighting (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsterFeats.htm#multiweaponFighting) takes a -4 attack penalty to all arms when using two double weapons.
