| Chronos11-30-03, 03:35 PM | Many of you are familiar with my parties situation but I will recap for the benifit of those who don't. My party (lvl16 pal, lvl 16 rogue, lvl 15 barb., lvl 13 lcih/sorc.(don't ask), lvl 12 sorc. and lvl 12 fighter) is in a huge dungeon looking with the intent of killing an adult red dragon. We have ran into a variety of other monsters including but not limited to a nightmare, night hag, devourer, and an adult green dragon, all of which we have killed but we didn't think we were strong enough to fight the red dragon yet so we went in search of some other monsters to get experiance and items. We found out that our "guide" we met in the dungeon turned out to be the younger brother of the red dragon with a special item that masked his identity, alignment, and motive. He was leading us to the adult red dragon so they coudl double team us so it turns out it was a very good thign that we didn't fight him right than, we woudl have been slaughtered. Anyways, we got through numerous traps and got to the younger dragon's layer and were able to lure him into a hallway were he couldn't fly and managed to kill him after a grueling fight and many of our party members almost dying, but fortunately none of died. Here is the stupid part. After fighting a red dragon and not dying, the stupid sorc. runs into the dragon's layer starts blindly grabbing treasure, and is killed by a TRAP. Now we are faced with a dilema, should we rez him or make him roll up a new char? |
| bahamut_011-30-03, 05:26 PM | Great to here you've killed the dragon Chronos, I've been following you're party's story for a while. As for the sorc. he made a stupid mistake, but he may have just been so excited after finally deafeating the dragon. Are you able to res him easily? If so then I would say do it, I'm sure he's learned to take his time in future, even after what I'm sure was an exciting battle |
| Chronos11-30-03, 06:17 PM | Yes we killed a red dragon, but not THE red dragon, he will be much harder than this younger one. It would be fairly difficult to rez him but he really really want's us to. |
| nick01200011-30-03, 08:30 PM | You adventure without a cleric? |
| Asmodeous11-30-03, 10:46 PM | congrats! Yeah, he adventures with out a cleric. Guess your paladin is going to be laying hands for a while after that fight! How may I ask can your party ressurect the sorcerer? I assume we are talking about the level 12 sorcerer here and not the lich? Role playing , your party probably would realise that every party member contributed to the victory if it is as you say, a very narrow victory. With out the said sorcerer, you would all probably be making some nice dragon snacks about now so the rest of the party really owes him, even though he was stupid enough to rush for the goodies and get blasted by a trap. Role playing, your rogue probably may have know the dragons stuff would be trapped, the sorcerer may not have, so could have role played his character correctly which got him killed. Besides, if you still plan to belt the adult red dragon, your gunna need him. That arguement is probably the only one you will all need at the end of the day! Noticed a couple of you'se went a level since your last post. Good one! every level will help for the adult dragon! Oh, and by the way, How come there is a paladin and a lich in the same party?? Well, somebody has to ask!! :D |
| Chronos11-30-03, 11:23 PM | This is true, we all agained a level since last time. You make a valid point, he would be very helpful in the fight against the big red dragon, and it was the lvl 12 sorc., not the lich. We have gold aplenty from the killing of the two dragons, unfortunately, the only place we know that can do true-rez (his body is was smashed) very far away and would take a long time to get to. |
| BlaineTog12-01-03, 12:51 AM | Consider getting him Reincarnated. Cheaper, easier to get (assuming you can find a Druid of the high enough level), and (most of all) FUN! You could come back a a friggin' Pixie for goodness sake! |
| K'man12-01-03, 12:53 AM | Do either of your casters know teleport? That could speed things up. If not, planar ally is a more unconventional solution. Call in an ECL 12 outsider and (with DM approval, of course) let him play as that until he's raised or you encounter his next character. The question really comes down to how attached the player is to his sorcerer... If I were him, I'd make a druid or cleric, in the hopes of balancing the party out and giving it more staying power. In a level or two, when you fight big brother, you'll probably want the DnD equivalent of a field medic handy. |
| Asmodeous12-01-03, 01:09 AM | Much as I can understand the player of the sorcerer wanting his character back, the fact that a party of yours size is without a cleric is a real peg leg for all the players. also, the two sorcerers is also a bit of a peg leg as well as the average sorcerer wont have much in the way of "out of the ordinary" spells in their arsenal either. I bet they pretty much duplicate one another for spells huh? fireball, magic missile, lightning bolt, cone of cold etc etc. I know all the players are of a good level, from 12 to 16, but as the party gets stronger and stronger, the lack of a cleric is really going to tell. with our group, my character is the party cleric and is the highest level character too boot. the amount of times a well timed heal spell has saved the day. even party pumping spells like mass eagles splendor, bears, cats, etc, holy aura and individual spells like shield of faith, ressurections spells as well as the clerics offensive spells like flame strike and destruction. your party is sorely missing these spells and it shows in your fight with this red dragon. what was the dc of this dragon? your party is dc 14 and should be able to take the adult red dragon in a fight with similar results, ie, by the skin of your dacks. a six member party of a pally, barb, rogue, sorc, wizard and cleric is gunna pwn. Might be time for a group talk and see if anybody is willing (and dm allowing) to trade their characters for a cleric. |
| Mister Mayhem12-01-03, 07:33 AM | The only non-metagame answer to this question is the same as the answer to the question "Did my character like his character or consider him a valuable member of the party." If yes, ressurect him. If no, don't. |
| Chronos12-01-03, 05:39 PM | That question is probably the best one a good roleplayer. But in this case the player of the dead sorc is not. He is the most useless member of our party and so when he died we told him he should roll a new char. and be a cleric or bard so that our party woudl be more balanced. He didn't agree and said he is one of the most useful and that if it weren't for him we wouldn't be alive, when in reality he spent most of the fight caught the web of a Drider, and even when he did get out of the web, none of his spells inflicted damage to the dragon. |
| Asmodeous12-01-03, 11:12 PM | hmmm. I know that situation all too well. Nothing you can really do then. role playing, the other characters would probably have to look at the dead characters history and decide if he is really worth the effort to ressurrect. But, your group has a paladin in it, does it not? sounds like you are all going to have to take the long trek and have him raised then. about all you can do is hope to knock some sense into the players head and hope he learns something. btw, does it have to be true ressurection? it would be fairly easy for the dm to rule that true res is not available (npc castor isnt high enough level or something) and that ressurection is all that avail. if the player lost a level on his character, it might teach him that its a good idea to not get killed so easily hay? |
