The_deacon 01-15-07, 02:38 AM	I'm not sure if this forum is really the right place to ask this, or if anyone would be able to answer it anyways... but here goes: A friend and I both bought the requisite D&D materials to get us started ((PHB, DMG and Dice )x2, plus the MM and Tiles). As you can see, it was a considerable investment, which we made because we know about four other people who told us that they would play with us consistently. Well, it turns out that they aren't at all commited, and seem unable to make it to any planned sessions, if we can even get them to attempt to plan a week or so in advance. Given that we've both spent alot of money, would really like to play D&D, and a one player - one DM setup sounds like a cop-out, we obviously need to find a serious group. The question: how? I'm fairly certain that nobody in our school plays D&D, and the local vendor carrying Wizards merch seems to be frequented only by people that we would never be able to fit in with... (super hardcore players who are a good 20-30 years older than us!). Essentially, we're looking for players in the Northern VA (USA) area (22046), around 15-20 years of age...
Mock26 01-15-07, 04:49 AM	Put an add on craigslist.com. I've used craigslist.com a couple times now out here in Chicago to find players and have been pleased with the results. I suggest, though, that you meet any potential new members to your group in a non-D&D setting, such as lunch or at the local coffee house and just talk to them about D&D and non-D&D stuff, kind of like an audition. If they're total jerks you should be able to pick up on this vibe and not invite them to join your fledgling group. Also, go to your local gaming store and ask if you can put up a notice looking for some players to join your group. Again, I suggest you "interview" any potential new players. Some have notice boards, sometimes the staff know folks, you'll often find posters for conventions, etc. Many stores will also run games. RPGA The RPGA is a great way of meeting folks. You can find games running in your town by other gaming groups which you can join in. Even if you are thinking about starting your own group, it is a neat way to meet new players. Internet - Gaming Clubs An internet search for D&D and your home town will often run into various groups, newsgroups, forums, etc. running in your area. Many schools, universities, colleges, etc. have gaming clubs and run public game days. Based on your age, when you meet folks online, I'd recommend always starting with public game days. Meet new folks in games run in stores, college facilities, etc.
FntsyWlkr 01-16-07, 03:20 PM	You know to be honest, if I knew of some people (15-20 years) who wanted to give gaming a try I would let them into a our existing group for a couple of games ... ... or I would even find a few players and play an outside game with them. Don't immediately dismiss the gaming store. Because maybe those "older gamers" have their own siblings that have been looking to play.

Krusk 01-16-07, 04:46 PM	Im sure there are people at your school who play. the thing is, most people playing dnd in a high school do not advertise it. simply hang out at your typical dnd players hangouts. Computer club, drama club, or any of the other less cool clubs. When your there ask around if someone plays. Alternitivly, ask the guy behind the counter at the game store if he knows anyone who plays, or has any cutsomers about your age. I bet there is someone.

In my past this is what I've gamed with: 1) Had a guy who stated when we were talking about moving the game across the river into washington state from Oregon state that he "couldn't cross state lines". 2) Had another guy who we kicked out of the group after 7 months because he was a little to annoying for us. A little over a year later, he was in the paper for kidnapping a homeless man and using him as a sex-slave for two weeks. Unfortunately, our hobby has some freaks...but these are only two nightmare stories within a solid 20+ years of gaming.

Online searches haven't been too fruitful yet because I'm pretty constrained by being too lazy to get my driver's license (still in high school). I'm going to try the hobby shop next, thanks for the help.
Krusk 01-19-07, 03:08 AM	Dude, go get your drivers liscense. Im sure you dont think your friends mind picking you up everytime you go somewhere, they may even say they dont. But they do. It makes gaming so much easier. Plus you dont want to be the guy whos mom comes to the gaming shop and stands around trying to be interested while you pick up your newest book/dice.
Yokomohoyo 01-19-07, 03:18 AM	Atually the licence is the least of his worries... For mid range transportation atleast (1-10miles)... He can always buy a bike or depend on public transportation if their is any in his area.
Flaxxon 01-19-07, 03:37 AM	I'd say the local gaming shop would be your best bet. All the ones I've seen usually have a post it board where you can post info about finding a group to play with.
