How did/do you guys find poeple to play with? I try to get my friends to play but they all seem to not be nearly as "into" it as i am, and I always end up being the G/DM and its nice to actually be a player once in a while (which is what I prefer). Im a senior in highschool and i hope that i can find alot more people to play with whence i hit college. But if i could find a group to play with before the school year is up that would be alot better. If you guys have any suggestions they would be much appreciated. Thanks

My only real thought is to go to my local game shop on Friday Night Magic and asking any of them if the play dnd and would mind another to join their campaign.

Place a card on the Games Shop nottice board?

On a nottice board at School?

Use the RPG Gamer Classifieds here?

When I was younger, I asked hundreds of people to find but a handful. Sometimes people can surprise you and those that seem unlikely turn out to be good.

College was great. I posted a couple fliers in the dorm stairwells. Before I knew it, I was DMing 2 groups at my college and another game at a nearby college.

Try starting a D&D club at your school. I have heard of a few of those.

For now, you might start looking online. Get an extra email account in case you are flooded with spam, and post away. Post in the gamer classifieds here. Try looking at other large sites like mortality.net or enworld gamers seeking gamers area?

I found one of my Sunday game players at games.groups.yahoo.com/group/DnDcontact . It is a database of gamers and also has state specific groups. There is also www.accessdenied.net , www.dnd.meetup.com , www.rpgregistry.com , www.thegamerconnection.com , and www.xsorbit2.com/users/rpggroupfinder that I have found. One of the best places around are the local game shops. Many of the game shops are quite good for finding a game or players. Even the bad game shops in my area have a board where you can put up a note card and advertise for a game. Many also have an online forum where people are frequently looking for games or players. There are probably a ton of other places too that most people never thought of looking for.

Depending where you live, you might find clubs or organizations near you.
Maybe try looking for something at - RPG Gateway: Role Playing Games
Dungeons and Dragons resources; free RPG resources including dungeons and dragons adventures, player listings, D&D links and more.

And don't get discouraged when you run into a few nut cases along the way...

Yes, you wouldn't want to run into Identitystolen in a dark alley much less a well lit game shop. :P

feel the same way, but im 13, college is years away, im going to a new school this year so hopefully i'll find some people, and the nearest gameshop is a 2 hour drive (my town is pretty rural) and the people i do play with about only 3 are into it, when we getr to play.

oh and i DID start a D&D club, but... it only lasted two weeks because when the school denied it the FIRST time we would stay after with a teacher who played when he was younger and play but they found out about that, approved it and ended it two weeks later, plus kids would come just to throw our books at us and **** like that....... read my signature... :D

Thanks guys, your input is much appreciated and ill give a looksie at the plethora of links you provided Rab-Ka-La. Any additional tips would be great too! I did stumble upon a group at my Local shop, but they where all 25-30 and good friends that had an established regamin and flow/finess to their gameplay. I didnt know them very well and thought i would be more so intruding than an actual addition to the team. Thanks for your thoughts.

Dont be afraid to ask your local gaming or hobby store owner if he/she would mind if you started a sign-up sheet to get to together and play at the once a week. And if you dont happen to live close to a game store you can always get some of your freinds who have never played before and show them what its like. (both of these ideas would probably meen you would have to dm at first but later on you can switch off and let someone else dm)

Yeah ive checked many of the sites that where presented to me (thanks again) and the closest games are still and hour drive away, in Denver, which was rather disheartening. I do have 1 (one :weep: ) friend who enjoys playing any paper and pencil, but im not really content with playing with 1 other person. I have tried many (many many many) times to start a good campaign that lasts with my friends but they always seem to die down after 2-3 sessions with excuses as to why people cannot come (such as getting High Warlord in WOW...) I will ask my local game shop soon, and i hope that that will follow through nicely. Also, maby well get some freshmen this year that play dnd. Once school starts ill ask if i can use the bulleten board, though i would be hesitent to start a full blow club as I would no like an excess of 5-6 people (ouside of myself) to be in it. Again I thank you for your replies and if anyone else can think of some more contributing information/sugestiones, it too would be appreciated.

I have begun brainstorming ideas for a campaign as it is evident that my DMing the first few is likely eminent.

Sorry none of the sites have panned out. Sometimes a little persistence will be rewarded.

I would have to agree with Fargon. DM for a while and you can hopefully bring in another who will have some DM potential.

The age difference in groups can seem like a major hurdle to some. I would disagree. In one of my groups who are mostly in their late thirties, we got a 14 year old kid. While some balked at first, he turned out to be great. He reminded the old timers of the wonder they had lost. I have seen many cases like this where age was transcended because of the love for the game. Don't be afraid to go out on a limb with an unlikely group. Maybe you could learn something from others as well as they could from you.
