well i roled up an elf Bard at my last session but was left to finish the charcter sheet on my own. i am an elf bard very graceful and charismatic. my party is large consisting of 2 druids a cleric a tankfighter a paladin and a sorceror (that has already roled up a rogue for when his sorc dies).

so far i have this. level 2 elf bard DEX 20, CHA 16, INT 15, WIS 10, STR 10, CON 10. i will use MW rapier, MW studded leather, a whip , and a longbow. ideally i would have liked to take weapon finesse at level 1 but i cant :(

thats about it i have 8 skills to max and i need to pick a feat and some basic equipment (mirror, silk blanket, wine, recorder).

for skill the "new rogue" will be a basic halfling sneaky guy so i dont need that really. i was thinking ...Knowledge history, knowledge nobility, perform wind instruments, Diplomacy, Bluff, Tumble, Jump, Listen (or balance)

as far as a feat goes all i can think of is combat expertise so i can take improved disarm and improved trip later. although thats alot of feats when i want to take weapon finesse at lvl 3. we cant use anything except the PHB yet. perhaps improved initiative?

i want him to be elegant and graceful. a real inspiration to everyone.

Seek out your DM and question if you can play the swashbuckler class.

My favourite character concept is bard/swashbuckler. And free Weapon Finesse at 1st level!

Core bard...not something I want to touch with a 10-foot pole. Sorry.

i read the bard link great link but not really what i was looking for.

i was really hoping for some honest input and opinion.

anything you might have experienced with a bard or other skill monkey. any equipment that could be useful and fit the idea of a pompous pretty boy gentleman bard.

First, are you stuck with those ability scores? If you can, I'd swap Dex and Cha (I'm assuming Dex is 18+2 racial) so you'd have Cha 18 and Dex 18 (16+2 racial). This will help with your more charisma-based bard (since you've got someone else for the more "sneaky" stuff and you implied the sorcerer would be dying soon, so boosting your spellcasting stat could be useful).

The complete series is a great source of material, especially the complete adventurer for bards. There's some good feat and PrC ideas in there that may help you get started.

Is your group rather min/maxed, or are they generally non-optimized for roleplaying and believability? If the former, you may want to listen to Wizards_White_Knight and multiclass. If the latter, a straight bard progression, or one that uses bard-focused PrC's (the virtuouso from CAdv comes to the top of my head) should be just fine.

You could max ranks in bluff and diplomancy. then use glibness and monkey the social skills to gross levels.

Ah, the old Jedi Bard Mind Trick.

Bard:"No, I'm pretty sure you said we could have this equipment for free."
Player: *rolls* That's a 58. Did I get him?
DM:
