i have a problem with my dm and using weapons while flying

my avariel character has good flight which means i can hover but allegedly a longbow is too unweildly to use while flying but i cant find any information about using longbows while flying

i can only find in the dms book that longbows cannot be used in mounted combat it says nothing about flying combat

I myself do not recall any rules of the sort. On first analysis, it appears that the DM doesn't like the fact that you can disappear out of the range of his monsters, and then pepper them with arrows, while they can't get their melee-focused monster butts up to you. He strikes me as the kind of DM who only ever sends you against monsters that charge first round, full-attack the next, flanking if it happens. Of course, all this is based on very little information, but it sounds about right. Just tell him that the enemies are allowed to carry bows as well, and can use them to attack you while you're flying.

The DM may be confusing the ability for characters with a good fly speed to hover (a non-action) with the ability to hover granted by a flying character with the Hover feat, which takes up a move-action.

Why don't you buy a Composite Longbow then? Better range, possibility of strength bonus coming into play and it can be fired from horseback...

Better make sure with your DM that they can be used when flying, though.
