Ok, I don't know if this is the right board, but...

As a bit of an amorphous question, what are some fun multiclass combos to play? Amusing combinations in and out of combat.

Any combos you've had fun playing with? Why was it fun?

I'm currently having a lot of fun playing a 1 rogue/ 2 bard. I put some skill points in disable/search and I can fufill the role of a rogue while concentrating on bard (i'll add a level of rogue ~ every 4 levels). Locks we just typically smash open.

It's kind of fun having almost every skill in the game as a class skill and being the party diplomat and trap monkey. Plus a few sneak attacks now and then never hurt, and soon I'll get evasion as an ability which will be nice.

My friend is having a lot of fun as a ranger/druid.

If you're looking for the most optimal, the Character optimization board would be the best place to go.

I think most anything can be fun, if you want it to be.

my favorites (and I almost always play multiclass) are:
ranger/druid
fighter/cleric
ranger/cleric
fighter/sorcerer
bard (heck, that's a multiclass all by itself)
fighter/rogue
trapspringer

Multiclass at every level. It takes some planning with feats becuase you will run out of core classes at around level 15, I think. Remember that some have alignment requirements, though they can be circumvented via UA. Your saves will be fairly good, though you will have trouble hitting things, and about eighteen spell lists that can't do anything.

i played a sorcerer/druid and had a great time, True Neutral but a very dark character. i started with the 3.0 dual class option and advanced alternating.

another combo (im playing now) is a monk/wizard. focus on touch attack!

Brand, the Barbarian 4/ Bard 16, a hard-hitting, mead-drinking skald of the Uthgardt. Fast movement, 4d12 hit points, and rage really helped this greatsword melee bard work and the Norse flair from the barbarian class helped to negate the "pansy with a lute" bard stereotype.

Maybell Flowerpot, a kender Rogue 3/ Druid 6, a handler who discovered a talent for druidry when lifting a potted plant from a home. She carried the plant about as her idol ever since. This is a case of multiclassing purely for character-driven purposes, I haven't found any real synergies between the classes but druids are so powerful a few levels lost isn't that bad and sneak attack can sometimes be handy.

Celebril Ithilorien, an elf bard 2/ fighter 4/ bladesinger (RoF version) 7, was your typicval snooty elven fighter-mage. This was back when the bladesinger was a self-buffing death machine. Not that the newest version from Complete Warrior is all that bad.

Jareth, tiefling rogue 3/ fighter 2 - a brash, self-interested pickpocket and bravo from the streets of Sigil. He was intended to be a male version of Annah (for those who've played Torment). Pure rogue is great, but adding a few levels of fighter for some extra BAB, hit points (and in the case of this character Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Katar and Two-Weapon Fighting) can be a good choice. Kills your will save, though.

If your total character concept is class 1+class 2 nothing is fun.

If you do it well almost any combination is fun. Some are unworkable (barb/pal) but almost anything ells is good.

I don't usually multiclass, but a guy I played with a short while ago had a Fighter/Rogue.

This was a really interesting combination, since he become somewhat the typical "thug". You know, the cutpurse that knocks his victim down if he fails the pickpocketing, the bouncer at the suspicous pub, the dark man in the alley.

It was a cool concept, but I'd doubt it had worked that well if it wasn't for the fact that he rolled two seventeens, one sixteen, and the rest above 11....

The most fun I've had with multiclassing is playing a wizard/cleric. You can go Mystic Theruge, but I think it takes all of the fun out of it, i.e. challenge.

My character is a gnome illusionist/cleric of Olidammara (Luck & Trick domains). Really lots of fun! She's 4/4 and it is spells, spells, spells and more spells.

I always think of a character concept first as if ti were a storybook, or anime character. I only start thinking of rules (classes, prestige classes, feats, skills, etc) after I've thought up the character. So it ends up that I often have to use multi-class, and PrC to get the character I want.
I wanted an agile swordsman once, fgt wouldn't do, niether would rog, so it ended up being a Half-elf Fgt/Rog/Duelist.
Often the best multi-classes are the ones that mix different kinds of classes (physical, arcane, divine, psionic, and skill).

You could do ANYTHING

I've got a Barb 1/Ranger 4/Rogue 4, half orc :) If I'd allpcated skill points a little better, he'd be even more fun to play. As is, he can be a riot.

I play him as a tea drinking (as in, no alcohol) noble savage (think of the Warcraft 3 orcs). He doesn't really understand human culture, thinks elves are murderous and that mead/ale is poison. It's also a norse campaign and he has effected a VERY strong impact of his own religious beliefs in the campaign... he followers ancestral spirits/nature spirits etc

He has a terrible fear of evil spirits (anything undead or incorpreal) and will run away from them as long as his comrades aren't in trouble. Ever see a level 9 toughie run from a mere 1 HD skeleton? He managed to get through 1 fight at level 6, that is...until the local cleric did a Turn check and exploded the ghouls/ghasts he was fighting. That was too much for the poor boy...the fight was over and he just booked it.

What am I getting at? The class selections only serve as a backdrop for the character. It's the character background and personality concept that make a character fun to play.

My DM will hate me for my next character... a hafling bard with a penchant for wine, women and trouble.

I quite enjoy multiclassing, played a completely worthless in combat Rog/Wiz once, tons of fun to RP, and he was planning on going Golem Artificer(Or something like that), but he never made it passed lvl 8 i think.
Fav char ive ever played is a Sorcerer/Mystic/Mystic Theurge/Geomancer(Geomancer has been homebrewed to be a little more divine, all the drifts make you more like a magical beast or celestial/fiend instead of an animal.) Hes Monoplytheistic, and worships all gods in some small way, he gets along with just about anyone, i think thou that i have only one game left before the campaign ends, were 22nd right now. Ill miss him.

Soon i might be starting a new campaign, and i plan on playing a rather worthless character, hes going to be based completely off inner strength, Passion, inner power, and force of will.
Sorcerer4/Mystic4/Wilder4/Mystic Theurge4/Cerebremancer4
Feats: Practiced Spellcasterx2/Spell Penetration/Greater SP
Mostly going to focus on buffs and battlefield control - plan on putting up walls and monsters to try and break up the fray, while possibly doing a little bit of damage in a pinch.
This guy will be fun to play, and very interesting, but pretty weak, hopefully the game will be lower power and everyone will RP a bit, since they all seem to, but who knows.

You could do ANYTHING
Anything poorly, really...
Maybe a sorc(or wiz)/rogue(or bard)/cleric(or druid)/fihgter type.
It accomplishes the same thing, just make sit easier.
Of course, if you're feeling really nuts and Alignment is abolished...well..
Go buy yourself a Psionics Handbook, and throw all of THOSE into your character, too.
