For some reason, the guys in my group decided to call the ranger (who's in game character name is Ellandall) "Jeff".

And the 1/2-orc barbarian was named "Duh" by a rollplaying newbie who had no clue about medieval fantasy games or naming conventions. I later changed his name to "Doug" as part joke, part background story.

Let's see:

There was 'Red Crotch' - the fighter. He had some other name - but we use miniatures to represent PCs and his miniature had a blazing red... well you get the idea.

We are currently playing with a portly NPC fighter named 'chunk' - who rivals the old Goonies character.

We encountered some NPCs in Eberron who had difficult names to remember - so I referred to them as 'Bob and Edna from Des Moines' - and it stuck. They are regular charaters.

Funny, a half orc barbarian had the exact same name in a campaign of mine.. strange, do i know you?

A powerful demon lord was named "Crazy Eyes" in a campaign.
He had some "crazy eyes" each pointing their own way, think of the dude in mr.Deeds.

Well, a DM once made a character for me (a human fighter) and wrote "Jim" on the name space. Later that session Jim died, and we didn't have any ink to print out another character sheet, so I took an eraser to Jim and made an elven ranger. The name was unfortunately written in ink (don't ask me why he did that), so to make it more elven I appended some letters to come out with "Jimolas".

On an epic game, I was playing a half-orc barbarian/frenzied berserker who's prowess in battle was nigh unmatchable, who's rages caused continents to crumble, who's mere glare could send a thunderstorm running away. Named Edgar. Only spoke common and Kobold. Had a thing for kobolds. Thought of them like dogs. "Awww, Edgar pet li'l kobold!"

I miss that character.

For a long time, to the frustration of my players, every NPC they came across was named "Charles" or some variation.

Chuck
Chazz
Chucky
Charlie
etc.

In a Dragonlance campaign we had going one of the players was named Palin the lawful good paladin of Paldine.

Then there was Tifistilestrius the Confounded in the same campaign.

Thats all I got.

We had one player in particular who was fond of juvenile names...he'd come up with things like: "Sofa Kingrate", "Hitler von Boone", "Dantron" (player's name was Danton), and so forth.

Another player once played an evil bard named Ozzy. I'm pretty sure he even bit the head off a small fuzzy animal.

My personal favourite was my evil wizard who escaped from the asylum with Ozzy and Hitler von Boone: Nephys the Unhinged. (Man, that was a shortlived campaign. Especially after von Boone ate that archon and got a disease...)

I was playing in a campaign and we had an old friend who had come back to town sit down for a game. He whipped up a fighter and couldn't think of a good name so he called him Luke Skywalker (not the funny name).

Next session our friend had returned home and we had this extra fighter which the DM promptly killed off. For the duration of the session we compained about the tragedy of Luke Skywalker so much that the DM banned us from saying then name Luke Skywalker.

As the next campaign started I created a character called "Loucksa Walker" much to our DMs dismay.

I ran a game set in ancient Britain, two years after the death of King Arthur. I asked the characters to choose old Welsh names, and provided a long list as an example. One of the players chose the name "Ednowain".

For the rest of the campaign, everyone referred to him as "Ed the Fighter".

My original DM had a NPC called Volga the Rabbit Slayer.

Most of my NPC´s have easy names, so my PC´s remember Malon, the gate guard, or the terrible Corthe Clan, but the NPC thei remember most is the Bard Patriarch Dantanalashera, of the Guispertsteppe Company.

In my campaign the Beatles motif is everywhere, the Chief of Royal Security is named Ringo, the Kingdom’s Princess is Jude, and the mysterious and lethal Mountain’s hermit is "The fool of the hill".

From the first party I even DM'ed:

Crave 4 Chaos, an elven wizard
Beeferoni (generally called Beefy), a 1/2 orc barbarian
Darkmage, a psycotic human sorcerer

Yes, I was young and naive back then. It should be noted that all three were newbies and that both Crave's and Darkmage's players were both quite good RPer's (and have gotten better ever since). Beefy's player.... well.... he had to be given his characters name by someone else and every character since has pretty much been a copy of the original Beefy in some way. Its almost become a running gag of sorts.

First the Bi-curious dwarven bard named Silky Longshanks created by my brother in law. *shakes fist*

Second, in order to introduce a new character the DM has the party come upon a group of hobgoblins and a large bag. From the bag comes muffled noises. The elf in the party parlays with the hobgoblins:

Elf: What is in the bag?
HG: Dinar, stupid elf.
Elf: Dinar?
HG: Yes, dinar. Stupid elf.
Elf: What is dinar?
HG:Supar.
Elf: Supar? Dinar?
HG: Yes, Dinar stupid elf.

This goes on for a while. For those who haven't figured it out the hobgoblin was saying Dinner and supper. The new character was in the bag and was to be dinner. After a short fight and the freeing of the new character the elf asks his name. D'oh the player forgot to name his character so he became Dinar Stupidelf.

this one time our adventurers were kicking back at the hometown pub and we needed to make a key NPC's name (the trusty bartender)on the fly. And since I had my DS with me (to tick off my DM) I blurted out "Nint!" And now our best non adventurer friend is Nint the Bartender who also has a cousin in the main city named Endo!

Well this is odd has no one else had a campaign with an Elf known by the players as "Alphabet" :D To this day I could not spell or say the 25 letter uber name he showed up with, we ended up just calling him Alf.
Evil Weevil

07-01-05, 05:17 AM
Bink the Barbarian- the players nick name is bink, though I don't know how, nor why, hmm.

Evil Weevil- One of my hilarious strokes of pure genius, the name gives no justice to the character.

Wally Whippersnapper- yet again my character, but he's real cool, striving to be what will soon be known as a were-pirate. (Halfling Were-blackbear that talks like a pirate only in were form :D )

Thats all I got now.

In the last game, the Wizard (Laergon) finally got his familiar, a Hamster (I used the Rat in the MM in terms of mechanics and familiar effects) by the name of Mr Nippy.

I believe his favourite battlecry is now: Go for the groin, Mr Nippy! Go for the groin!

While his wizard cowers in the backrow winding up Ole Betsy.

Me and my friend Chris created a Goblin family with three brothers all of which have the same name save that one letter is changed.

Rag
Reg

and soon Rug.

Then there were these Half-Orc twins named Rock and Tree. Me and my cousin played. Their Orc father was drunk at the time of their naming when the Slavewoman birthed them, so he named them after the first things he saw when his vision was blurry.

Then there was Buckler, my gnome wizard who guest starred in one campaign for a moment.

We did have a group with a Thri-kreen named Click-click. We started calling him Mr. Clicky out of character.

Then there was the Kobold Ninja, I made. He was raised since birth in Drow servitude as a miner. So they called him "Digger" so he calls himself Digger.

The one that strikes me first is the one someone put up on the boards a while ago, with Bill the Ruler of Hell and his ability to dismiss inconvient effects. But that wasn't mine, so it doesn't matter.

The best one was when my character was being held on trial for breaking and entering, and my excuse was I was looking for biological samples to study from the thorn bush I fell into and was arressted in. Sadly, I wasn't thinking as fast at the time, so I told the judge I was looking for "things from that porcu-bush I fell into". Guess what I went by until I framed one of the other PC's for stealing a magical sword from a shop (only a day later)? Mr. Porky.

There is a name given to a man who consults with the foulest sources of evil. A man who wears the blackest of armor -- armor so black as to appear to be part of the great void itself. A man who wields the sharpest of barbed blades, each spiked end decorated with the tiniest bits of human flesh. And the name given to him is... Jon!

A couple of NPCs I created for a campaign long ago:

Bob Sletter and the Eskimo, S. Quint, were from the North. Sir Furdud was from the Southern coastal area. And the easily confused Beddy-Bob was from a rather backward rural area.

"Euben Hadd" is a name I unabashadly stole from an early "Dragon" magazine for a short-lived PC of my own. His only claim to fame was that he cut himself out of everything that ever swallowed him. [I will never again play a Halfling or other Small PC unless the DM rules in advance that attacks from within a creatures' digestive system are always considered Sneak attacks.]

I know a player who played a character that (in his backstory) was once a gerbil but was polymorphed by an evil wizard into a Half-Orc (thats the race he was playing as). His name? As DM i had an NPC ranger. Cant remember his name.

The players started calling him all sorts of variants on "Walker, Texas Ranger."

Walker
Texas

then Chuck etc..

I loved the NPC when I created him and had big plans for him.. then he slowly morphed into a bit of a joke NPC... :D

I presently have a Half Orc Barbarian named Thokk. While not in itself a funny name, he, in character, got it from "Thats the sound my sword makes when it hits a skull."

Having a gnome artificer for like 2 sessions, I decided to give him an outlandish name. Brimbleflock Saldog. I thought it was very Gnomey. Also I named a Gnome in another game "Plumbaub".

One campaign I'm in has a family of halflings known as the "Snuggledons".

We came up with an NPC bartender named "Bart Ender." Which is funny because that COULD be a real name.

Halfling rogue in my campaign named "Nohtstanding B. Hindyu"

In a really bad campaign I was in we had a dwarf named "Greemar Nonads". Also had an elf ranger named "Link." Everything he picked up he would hold over his head and whistle a tune. Got old real fast.

Me and my friend's were all bored at school. Me, being the geek that I am, made temporary stick men D&D characters for us. I wasn't really going by the rules because this was just to pass time. For myself, I created Ukthor, the valient knight. Ok that was the easy part. Then I had to make 3 more. The next player likes spellcasters so...... Cheesebar the molded mage!

I was hungry. Relation maybe? nah.... Anyway, next person adores rogues. I'm having a hard time with names over here so she'll be...... Retardo the "gifted" Thief. This was the beginning of one of the longest running gags between me and my friends. Retardo just ran around screaming " HI, I'M RETARDO". He also had two short swords super-glued to his hands.

Now one more left and I was fresh out of ideas. So I just muttered "what the hell" and created the blindingly creative, ultimately unique, the eptomine of originalitie, the amazing.........uh.um.... The amazing.....guh...... Gnome..y.
Gnomey the magical garden gnome. He looked exactley like a garden gnome but he was alive. and he duel wielded a rusty shovel and a pair of safety scissors (spelling?).

It all went downhill from there when Retardo was captured and had to be rescued from behind the pure white castle walls of " Happy house Mental hospital" :P :D

bottom line: it was great. :D :D

Gnominy, the very iniquitous gnome thief.
Groothl the toothless half-orc with a Charisma of 3.
Narden Groinhammer, obviously a dwarf.

The same player played all 3 of those. He was a pain of a player, but hilarious all the same.

This weekend we had an NPC who was really there just as a meat shield. Somehow he could not lose. I kept throwing him in there with 8th-level PCs against terrific odds, and he just wouldn't die. We all began to really like him, but he was a nameless soldier, so I asked the players what they'd like to call him.

My wife said El'Gone because of the time he failed a save and ran from the room. The other player said, "Testi-clese." (Pronounce like "Hercules".)

So now his name is Elgone Testi-clese. (I hyphened here because of the censor.)

Sometimes the dice just really like a character, and you can't explain it.
UltimateReality

The other player said, "Testi-clese." (Pronounce like "Hercules".)Dantron's cohort was named that...I forgot all about that little name. *mutter to self* Dan (the player) was responsible for a fair amount of the incredulous and amusing-the-first-two-times-you-hear-it names that went through our group.

07-05-05, 02:46 PM
Our DM has a very high kill rate. However there is one particular player who has had worse luck than the rest of us when it comes to losing characters. Thus, he decided some months ago to begin naming his characters alphabetically. For example, his first character was Albrecth, 2nd was Brennen, 2rd Cyril.

He is currently playing Dennis, the sorcerer. Poor bastard.

Technically unless he was a really short halfling he wouldn't be biting other halflings, and would not therefore be cannilbalistic...Sorry, just a point I had to make...
Jeremiah DeathFist

07-05-05, 04:47 PM
My first character was name Jeremiah Deathfist the Smurfslayer.

One time (in my groups days of noobness awhile back) we let my cousin play a session. At first he wanted to name his character Alpha Q (say that fast and something unexpected comes out of your mouth) but decided in the end to name him Alpha Jew. Worst player ever.

In my current group and campaign my friends Dwarf Fighter is named Granite Ironhammer but everyone just calls him "Pebbles." Infact our characters just learned his real name.

Not incredibly original, but both strangely fitting for a fantasy setting.

In a campaign I played in a long time ago, I named my halfling thief "Sunshine"; we figured that it must be a nickname. My brother had two characters that were Siamese twins, so he named them "Port" and "Starboard".
At one time, I named all of my characters something wierd: Peppermint the halfiing druid, Animal Crackers the wizard and his henchwoman Duck Soup, etc.
In my most recent campaign, one of the players didn't come up with a name for her wizard (who was capable of flinging horrendously destructive spells around), so one of the other players named her "Shiva".

His name? Krush the Skull. :D

Yewg Ownadie (Say it fast)
Orc Barbarian.

We also had a mystic theurge who didn't have a name until the last week he existed, so throughout the time he was with us we called him "Buttwipe"
Gurthoron

07-06-05, 01:25 PM
I was joining a campign as a tank-type black fighter dubbed "Gurthoron". The immediate response was:

Rogue: "What up, G?"
Cleric: "Hey, its the token black guy"

Thus he was called G or Token for the rest of the campaign.

Then there is my friend who always uses names that sound alike.

A dwarven paladin by the name of "Argot Noknees." The player, a terrible punster, still swears to this day that that was an accident, and that he didn't notice until someone else pointed it out.

Technically unless he was a really short halfling he wouldn't be biting other halflings, and would not therefore be cannilbalistic...Sorry, just a point I had to make...

The BoVD defines cannibalism as the consumption of the flesh of a sentient being.

Let's see, we had:
-a fighter named Bob(which got really confusing because one of the other guys IRL was named Bob)
-an elf named Himo(we pronounced it Heemo at first, but when he said it was pronounced Hymo, we brought up that it sounds like a certain part of the female anatomy and started calling him that until he acquiesced)
-a winged cleric named Coo of the Cloth(his surname was something goofy, but I forgot)
-a halfling rogue named Extra Spicy Curry
-a druid named Josh(I was feeling lazy that day)
-a warlock named Mike(still lazy)
-a cleric named Ryce the Reaper(you can imagine the nicknames)

Yeah, that's about it.

Our group has a rule that any PC, NPC, or intelligent item for which the player cannot think of a name is automatically known as Steve.

So my Mystic Theurge (cleric/wizard) was was walking around with a Pseudodragon cohort (which had several levels of druid too) and an intelligent greatsword (telepathic) named Steve.

Hysteria I tells you.

Many years ago I had an Assassin called "Good Question". I had a lot of fun with that name for a while.

My wife on the other hand loves naming her characters using either Welsh names consisting entirely of consonants or using sounds from other languages that are impossible for English speakers to make! Yes she is Trilingual and has a real love of languages. :D

The only other one that I can think of was a friends character who had called himself "Frodo" and insisted on referring to all the other PC's by names from the Fellowship. After a couple of months (Real time) of this all the players got tired of the schtick and asked him to stop.

my friends where in a game and had Stumpy the Balor, which was missing one hand but, everytime they ecountered him(he was the BBEG) they would say something really dramatic but silly because of his name...like "time to die stumpy" or "your evil deeds will be your undoing, now stumpy prepare to die"
I don't know i think it is funny

Playing in an all barbarian group is nice, where every barbarian is above 50 except one - who´s another barbarian´s grandnephew.
Their names?
Collin the Barbarian, Cecil the Mutilator, Quicthic the Kneecapper and Manus the Fortuitus.
Now imagine the response of the peaceful clerics of the village after introductions.

My DM doesn't allow silly names like Beasty Headsmasher or stuff like that.

But we did have interesting stuff...

Like...

The party Druid awakened a meduim sized tree, and we called it Woody, and it eventually became a Wizard :)

Or the Awakened Dire Boar named Arkturis :D :D :D

anyway, the other day, one of my players discovered a cool name (as he says) by pure luck: Pusi-liki, accept without the '-', so it's actually Pusiliki, some Elf or something :p

A friend of mine was DMing a campaign that was basically serious. One day he introduced an Ogre Mage NPC who wanted to talk to the party. They asked him his name. The Ogre Mage said "My name... is irrelevant." and continued to threaten/bargain/talk with the party.

From that point, Irrelevant the Ogre Mage was a re-occuring bad guy.

Kuroga Ji'tai of the Shadow, He who is the Dark Wolf, The Skilled Smasher, The Powerful Arcanis, Who Fights Like Lightning, Defender of Calooh Callay, He who Slays Things that Make Him Really Really Angry, Leader of Bearded Armies, He who Mocks Aformentioned Bearded Armies, He Who Turns into Great Nasty Things With Big Nasty Teeth Things on the Full Moon, He who has Killed Death...Twice :twitch:

I once played a gnome bard named Dollybop

My brother made a fighter named shadow wolf (he has a reputation of making weird PC names)

I'm sure everyone has had to deal with players that gave their characters LOTR names like aragon or sauruman.

I guess the coolest guy one of my players ever made was Osborn Legallow the lvl 3 halfling master thrower with an atk bonus of like +11(he never missed)

Finally my friend insisted on creating a new character everytime we played. To make it worse, he always called him elron the elf fighter, and he only used the elven thinblade.

I love my current DM, but he hasn't really got the gift for NPC names. Take, for example, the local Mason who we had to rescue after he got into trouble for building our -well my- heretical altar.

His name was Plot Point the Mason. We also bought all our items from "Magic shop guy" and the local cleric was just named Padre.

The local lord was also Lord Byron, then Lord Tennyson, then Lord Nelson, then Lord George W. Nelson, then Lord Nelson Mandela.

Actually it got to be kind of fun when we got to make up names. Fat Drippins the merchant was my favorite. There were a couple of other fun NPC names, but they're not going to get through the profanity filter. :D

Aside from that, the worst (or possibly best) I've ever done on a PC name was a hot Twi'lek chick whose name was "Pang Toon"

Well, in the new campaign my group is starting soon (Eberron) the orc barbarian is named Dreggis but everyone just calls him Greg. Also the player of our warforged fighter is thinking of naming his character Chunk.

Oh I have so many of these:

Dex (swashbuckler/rogue).

In my first game I DMed, the rogue was named Dirty Pillows.
Later when that player tried Dming, my brother named his cleric Clean Sheets.

More later.

Adid Naduid (pronounced A-did Nod-do-id) human gnome artificer ( wait what)

Virtue Niallo (the anarexic scitzophrenic elf)

"...Pret-ty p-pol call me Ugly..." -Ugly, the half-orc barbarian (int 6, cha 6).

Figaro Squeekspell, squeeky-voiced halfling wizard.

Tonka (a con 20 dwarf)

Tank (3.0 dwarf fighter w/264 hit points by lvl 10)

"What are you calling yourself today?" -Jaren the Scribe; "Marcus, if I recall correctly." -Malice, very evil looking warlock.

Black Mage (gnome warmage).

D.D.W. gnome warmage. In character it stood for something in gnomeish. OOC it stood for Direct Damage *****.

"Kawakatose. Be still and I will sing you a song: Kawakatose, Kawakatose, Kawakatose." -Kawakatose strangest bard ever. Supprisingly not an egocentric freak.

Goliath, Ogre in a futuristic campaign with a hand-held assalt cannon named David. Goliath could take down traffic helicopters.

NaK (a chemistry joke), human kinetisist(sp?)/pyrokinetisist.

NPCs: Duke Hash, his wife Mary Jane, and their son Smoke. Hobbie the hobgoblin. Trig (short for Trigonometry, a human raised by gnomes Had severe issues). Fido and Rover teenage twin rogue werewolves. Aaric Aamaaris (an Aasimar). Baka, human diviner with an int of 20 at lvl 8 (this was before I started watching anime; it was a total coincidence). Clubs and Spade, halfling partners in crime. King Vlad and King Vlad III (no relation, different campaigns). Shishishi (OA human shamen). Popopo (Shishishi's re-accuring bear animal compainion that's died in every combat he's been in).

Lilly, a silver haired villian who is a minor anoyance of a villian (makes life difficult by causeing trouble with the City Watch). Her name is funny because the day before resounding defeat in the courtroom my professor brings his 8 month old daughter to class. A elfin little baby with silver hair. Her name: Lilly.

Finally, what do you name your albino son if you live in the city of Rapid? White of Rapid.

In one Oriental Adventuers campaign we just had, one player loves Dynasty Warriors, so he came in with a character named... Cao Pi.

I think I pee'd myself after I heard that. Mostly we called him 'Wizzer', 'Leaky' (Hey Leaky, yer bleedin all over me!) 'Tinkle'.

*Sigh*, good times.

The group I am DM'ing for started calling a minor BBEG Tarter Sauce (real name was Warlord Tatarin) and as a group named themselves Warriors of Dijon. And then they started calling the neighboring kingdom Calimarie, instead of Kaminari. :uh-huh: :nonono:

BSUS (Blow Sh1t Up Specialist) Guntar Rambo, I have gotten better with names since I first named this guy. He had a longbow with explosive from Complete Warrior on it. :evillaugh

kudos to everyone that posted on here because of that great laughs. but heres my two cents.

I was once playing in a game where our Full blooded mountion orc enchantress'es name was...... Cheiftens Daughter. the whole backstory behind it is that in her village, that she ran away from, called her that because her name was so long and unpronouncable.

A player in my new campaign has a halfling rogue called Don Hastily, inspired by the armour table in the PHB

I also recall a wizard named Presto, who's attention people always seemed keen to get (Hey, presto!), and a fighter named Tullgorm, usually called Tull, because he's gormless.

he didn't have a name for his new guy so the DM put some pressure on him to come up with one RIGHT NOW... with that result =)

Bobo Basher , Dwarf Fighter ( played by our RL friend that was streetsmart but with a very very low IQ.)
We would make it a sport to have a argument and have him pick a side (assume he chose person 1). Person 2 will then make a argument that will cause Ed to switch sides... while Person 1 will make a comeback or rebuttal that will convince Ed to switch the side he supports yet again. This would go on and on until he would figure out something is wrong or he tells us he is staying out of it because he is utterly confused now.

This guy is pure hillarity. He plays his characters as himself and would always stick to dwarf fighters. (The DM told him Dwarves are cool and he stuck to that ever since)

He get's so into it... he was in tears before, fell off his chair in fright and jumped one of our players for betraying our group. He plays his characters so honest he would never act based on what would benefit himself or the group the most, he ALWAYS acts how HE would react to it.

Begging for mercy, peeing his pants, running from a fight, bed every prostitute in town, then beg the cleric to cure disease on him again. Dragonfear works everytime on him, no need for him to roll a save because Ed IS scared of a Dragon.

He keeps blowing all his gold on girls and alcohol on the first day in town. After that he keeps at it without money... which usually ends the same.. charges for assoult on customers, assoult on the inn owner and staff, assoult on the town guard, attempted assoult on the judge.

Needless to say all party members became proficient jail breakers. All of us had a "Ed Kit"

He truly made DnD a one of a kind experience.

After not reading much of the PHB, except the bare minimum for creating a half-orc barb, my friend's brother's first character was named "Krusk." Sadly, this was a year ago, and I was the first one to catch that the barb in the PHB is also named Krusk. This was a couple weeks ago. :embarrass

The first session of a new campaign, and one of our players was missing. He had already rolled his character, and wanted someone to play him.

We noticed he didn't name his new character. So, as punishment for not making it, I took the liberity of naming his character 'Ladybug Snookums'.

Ladybug actually kicked alot of butt, he rolled an astonishing amount of criticals.
