| Vorm10-19-04, 01:00 AM | So we have a party that consists of a dwarven cleric, human fighter/paladin, human rogue, human monk, and the ever resourceful, ever powerful sun elven wizard (Me!). Set in Faerun, everyone but me was level 10. I was level 11. So we were infiltrating this sort of government building in a large city (Athkatla) after it had been invaded by a monstrous army. Our mission was to assassinate the leader to demoralize the army. So we kill the two goonish guards in front and our rogue climbs up the walls with his slippers of spider climb and throws down a rope. And then the fun begins... We get up to the large window and look down to see four guards at the very end of the large room and a creature of some sorts sitting at a circular table. Eventually we recognized it as a mind flayer. So our rogue wipes out the guards with a single fireball while I cast a maximized lightning bolt and the cleric casts flame strike at the mind flayer in hopes of a swift K.O. Didn't work. I got the full 60 damage on it and the cleric rolled pretty bad for something like 23 points. Mind flayer gets up, and hes pretty ******. So as usual he starts off with a mind blast. We all though it as a run of the mill mind flayer so we're all proven wrong when everyone fails on a high roll of 25 except for me, who got a 19 + 12 for the roll. So, everyone is stunned for 5 rounds except for me. So once again I hurl a bolt of lightning, only to realize this guy has an SR of 234534534. He starts flying towards me. Panic ensues. Then, I realized instead of beating it's SR, I can just beat its AC! I cast the trusty spell telekinesis, bring 11 objects (most were magic swords) hurling towards him, and do 83 points of damage, bringing him to -63. Everyone cheered and I was a hero (No one said thanks though). Later my dm told me he had packed 9 levels of sorcerer into that mind flayer, a total of CR 17. I laughed and knew that if we had all died and he had told us that, someone would have flipped. Thus, in the end, TELEKINESIS ROCKS! Oh, and after that I killed Manshoon. |
