| OneBallJay04-17-07, 02:11 PM | So, in a fit of curious stupidity, my character (ex-Monk 1/Wizard 5/Rogue 1/Daggerspell Mage 1) looked upon the visage of a deity when he came to congratulate us for a job well done and was permanently blinded. What can I say, I took a lot of wisdom damage in the previous battle. Anyhow, my group (Fighter, Ranger, Druid, Scout, me) is talking about options. We picked up a ring of three wishes (one gem left) as part of the treasure, and the group decided that I could use it to solve my problem if I'd like. The other options we've talked about are trying to track down someone/something that can cast heal, or manage with spells (darkvision, blindsight) and hope to come across a robe of eyes (or wish for one -- it's interesting that the wish spell has an upper limit on the gp value for non-magical items, but not for magical ones) or somesuch in the future. As for the wishes, in talking with our DM, he thought I'd have a reasonable chance of success if I wished for the sight ability of a dragon (double low-light vision, darkvision 120 feet) if I worded it correctly, but this feels a bit too munchkiny to me. However, the concept of being a blind arcane-channeling dagger-wielder is kinda growing on me. We've talked about wishing instead for permanent greater blindsight, which I like conceptually, and gives some benefits like ignoring invisibility, concealment, darkness, etc. However, since I wouldn't be able to read, I'd have to use a specially prepared spellbook (braille) and could only use scrolls I specially prepared myself. Also, I probably wouldn't be able to target spells beyond close range, along with not being able to discern colors, spot illusions, do research without an assistant, etc. What I'm looking for from the boards is other options, drawbacks or benefits I've possibly missed from the options we've been considering, or smacks upside the head for looking at the god when the DM had already let slip that we'd need a fort save to do so. What do y'all think? |
| OneBallJay04-17-07, 02:18 PM | Also, if it matters, we're using the spell point variant from UA, so my casting utility significantly expanded from just a stock wizard. More like a sorcerer with access to a spellbook for choosing spells from. |
| Kitaki04-17-07, 02:33 PM | Being blind certainly has more difficulties for a spellcaster than most. My only experiece with with playing a Swordsage that was blinded, but I had the stance that allows for blindsense. The RP value is interesting, but there are alot of drawbacks in terms of mechanics. For the love of, well just about anything, don't wish for the sight/eyes of a dragon, u'll prolly end up with some kind of eyeless dragon hunting you down. If I were to go that way my wish would go something like "I wish for the ability to see equivalent to a dragon." |
| Cartigan04-17-07, 02:43 PM | I fail to see how a spellcaster or Rogue would work blind. |

If I were to go that way my wish would go something like "I wish for the ability to see equivalent to a dragon." Yeah, no way I would actually word it like that. We've come up with something that should work, if that's the route I take. Cartigan, you slay me. |
| Zankue04-17-07, 03:38 PM | I'd say ask for your old vision back, very specifically and worded well, b/c blind sight like you said still doesn't let you read - not to mention depending on your era brail may not have been created ye - , and u only have a small range of vision with blind sight. |
| Empiro04-17-07, 04:54 PM | I'm guessing a 5th level cleric with Remove Blindness/Deafness is out of the question? |
| DrakePD04-17-07, 04:59 PM | If you still have your eyes, then you may want to try Remove Blindness/Deafness Conjuration (Healing) Level: Clr 3, Pal 3 Components: V, S Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Fortitude negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) Remove blindness/deafness cures blindness or deafness (your choice), whether the effect is normal or magical in nature. The spell does not restore ears or eyes that have been lost, but it repairs them if they are damaged. Remove blindness/deafness counters and dispels blindness/deafness. If your eyes are gone you may want to try Regenerate Conjuration (Healing) Level: Clr 7, Drd 9, Healing 7 Components: V, S, DF Casting Time: 3 full rounds Range: Touch Target: Living creature touched Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Fortitude negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) The subject’s severed body members (fingers, toes, hands, feet, arms, legs, tails, or even heads of multiheaded creatures), broken bones, and ruined organs grow back. After the spell is cast, the physical regeneration is complete in 1 round if the severed members are present and touching the creature. It takes 2d10 rounds otherwise. Regenerate also cures 4d8 points of damage +1 point per caster level (maximum +35), rids the subject of exhaustion and/or fatigue, and eliminates all nonlethal damage the subject has taken. It has no effect on nonliving creatures (including undead). |
| Oompa04-17-07, 05:07 PM | Just find a way to highten youre other senses, like daredevil, he was blind.. but could see.. in a different way.. |
| OneBallJay04-17-07, 05:30 PM | If you still have your eyes, then you may want to try Remove Blindness/Deafness Wow, I really am blind. I didn't realize that was a not-too-high level spell. I should still have my eyes, I think they've just had their rods and cones burned out by the deity's radiance. Thanks, Drake and Empiro! I'll probably just struggle along with greater blindsight (provided by the druid) until we can track down a 5th-level cleric. |

What do y'all think? Your character is a wizard? Well if he does not get his normal sight back, how is he going to read his spell-book? |
| HermitIX04-17-07, 05:39 PM | I had a blind NPC wizard in one of my games. I made up a cantrip for her and she could prepare it with out a spell book like read magic. Level 0 Material component sand or dust. It raises the markings so the blind person can feel what’s on the paper/stone whatever. And the spell last a minute per level. Edit: Well it was an NPC she never had to memorise her spell book, i guess make it last 2hours, and don't scale up for levels. or how ever long you want it to last. |

A level 5 wizard doesnt have enough time to readt his spellbook in 5 minutes, so effective he should do the spell like 6 times.. That costs you all youre cantrips.. |
| daggeroflath04-18-07, 01:33 AM | Magic of Faerun has a spell that grants you blindsight. I know, my (sorcerer) was blind for some time when we were stuck away from any clerics. Fortunately our DM has some odd rules about sorcerer's abilities changing to fit their circumstances (too complex to go into now) so I was able to switch a spell for blindsight. But if you're a wizard... I wasn't aware that they published spellbooks in braile? |
| V812204-18-07, 10:12 AM | You have gods thanking you for your deeds, yet you can't track down a 5th level cleric?:ahem: |
| Corpsekin04-19-07, 11:41 AM | the libris mortis has rules for grafting parts of undead creatures onto yourself, id just buy the eye of flame and a mumified eye to replace the eyes you lost and get someone with the corpsecrafter feat to attach them to you |
