My dm is what some would call slack in sessions, we started creating new characters about 2 months ago and we are all etching to get started on the new campaign, unfortunately we have only had ONE session since ( 3/4s of which was writing out character sheets). How do i tell my dm to be more pro active without insulting his dm skills (he is a very good dm.) cheers in advance. |
| KirkBb09-02-06, 11:29 PM | I have the same problem. I used to DM for my group, but a friend of mine finally stepped up to the plate. He still hasn't held a session yet, but everyone has made their characters. I keep pushing him and it looks like things are going to finally be getting started. The least offensive way I think you could do it is by showing him some stuff that would make his life easier. Random dungeon, encounter, npc, town, and treasure generators can be found here: http://www.rpghost.com/dungeon_gen.shtml I wish I had found them when I was DMing, would have made things much simpler for me. He may also be having a hard time creating an adventure in general, but have no fear, wizards has created a bunch of free adventures for characters of all levels available on their website here: http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b If he doesn't take the hint, by the time he does grow less apathetic, he will have the tools to ready a session very quickly. |
| TheChilliGod09-02-06, 11:33 PM | Wow, a gaming session within 2 months! How lucky for you! Look, my own campaign usually has about a session every 2 months as well. Three campaigns that I play in have a time frame between 2 months and 6 months. Every campaign session I've played so far aimed at being 7 hours long (including lunch breaks and latecomers). This is usually because... Well, most of my gaming circle have lives. Or weekend jobs. Or weekend other-stuff. Since we're all still in high school, add study to that list, too (especially with our externals so flipping close!). Therefore, your may not be a question of the DM's abilities as a DM, than his availability as a person, as well as that of all the other players. If that is the case, there's no changing anything. You can't really expect someone to quit his job over a game, or to walk out on his SO for it. Sure, you can expect him to find a cover for his job, or postpone dates till the night after, and good luck with bringing that up. If, on the other hand, it is actually the DM's abilities at fault (say, he can't be bothered calling everyone else, or he hasn't prepared anything yet), then give it to him straight. Tell him that you're bored. Nag him. My players nag me constantly, it might work for you. But really, if you find as if you could be playing more D&D than you are right now, then you might have better luck finding a second group (which you could play with alongside your first, hopefully). Online might be your best bet here, because usually people can't find a second group locally. |
| the_fenris_wolf09-02-06, 11:46 PM | I live in new zealand so we have already had our externals, we are all pretty extreme nerds so we dont have a life, we dont have jobs either, so im not questioning his avaliability. Its the fact that my dm is not motivated enough to organise sessions, and has told us many times that we are having session this weekend and cancels at the last minute. Cheers p.s we usually have a session every fort night, i wouldnt play if session were as long as yours. cheers.:D |

Point him towards the WOTC free adventures, maybe he had a bad case of writer's slab(bigger than a block). |

I have a DM who BOUGHT an adventure and just won't read the darn thing. And when he does read it, he highlights stuff, but still has to read is like 5 more times before he actually tells us what is happening. UGG! He runs his about every 3 months. I on the other hand, create my own adventures and run it about every 2 or 3 WEEKS! Yeah. So, basicly, it's all about how you can motivate them. I enjoy just bugging them over and over untill they get working on it. Once they get started, I'll keep bugging him to run it untill he actually does. |
