So, I'm about to start playing a Forgotten Realms campaign that is goin to be based on alot of Role-Playing, and i want to be a Ganasi becasue they just seem like they'd be a fun character to RP with(and battle, etc, but thats not the point). I've never played a race that has a +lvl adjustment, so i need some help. How exactly do i go about writing up the sheet for this guy? Ive read everything in the FR Campaign Settings book i could find on them(including the Powerful Races insert), but i'm still confused on it.

All the characters are starting at lvl 4, so from what i understand i just make my Genasi a lvl 3, but say he has 4 class levels? Do i need a special character sheet or somthing?

If you can, just think of anything you would do when making a Genasi and say it in here ...

btw, im planning on making him/it an Air Genasi.
and what kind of names do these guys have?

thanks alot to repliers

With a level adjustment of +1, a 3rd level class (fighter, cleric, whatever) is a fourth level character.

So, when you pick a class, your abilities and stuff are based on a 3rd level character, but your character is 4th level for other purposes.

Okay, just think of it this way:
You need 1000 (the amount of experience to gain level 2 from level 1) more experience to gain any level. So if you had a level 1 fire genasi rogue, you would need 2000 xp to gain level 2.
Right now you will have 3 class levels, but still be equivilant to a 4th level character.

Do note that the Genasi are the likely most underpowered LA+1 races out there. In fact, a dwarf is likely better. Talk to your DM and see if he can make a small adjustment to your genasi, making it an LA+0 race, just so all the confusion about the LA+ is gone. I do admit they are cool for roleplaying reasons.

If you want a Faerun name then the FRCS Book has a list (page 12). It's listed by language. So once you decide on which Genasi you want, find out which region he'll hail from (to list any languages you'll be speaking, see page 30-32) and pick one from the list.

Or if you don't want to do all that, then pick a name that's suited for his class, race, or personality. Use mythology, folklore, or imperial/pious/mystical sounding names. Like a Air Genasi fighter might be named Hermes Vanguard, a wizard could use Gildas Galerune. I'm picking myth and cool words at random, but you should get the idea.
