Origami_Ninja 04-29-05, 12:46 AM	Alright, first things first, I do not hate my DM for these current events, heck, I rather like these RPing situation. In fact, I only want to get some input as to what the next logical step should be. Alright, I'm playing a male changeling, who sees that it's quite helpful to be a female when it comes to getting things. Now, up til know I've been the wheeler and dealer of the group, trying to get things for cheaper, and selling things for more than they're worth, and being an attractive girl of the race that I'm dealing with has proven to be very effective. We're only level 3, and I recently just aquired a glamoured chainshirt of +1ness (^^), and I'm using that to assume various clothes, and I'm a bard. My party consists of a warforged pacifist fighter who has a CR 4 cat following him around, a mongrelfolk rogue who has bad luck and a fake hand(funny story, this), a half orc barbarian who believes in killing then questioning, and a human wizard (with everyone else, he's actually the outcast =P). Now, since my character find it easier to do his business as a girl, he runs around everywhere as a girl, and even has the party confused as to who he really is (the rogue knows he's a changeling, as he attempted to put the moves on him in girl form, and changed back to avoid any nookie) as he keeps introducing himself as another name/personality (and with a high enough bluff to make them believe it too!!). Now, the problem comes in with the fact that I no longer know I'm a changeling. That's right, my character has amnesia and doesn't know he's a changeling, and is stuck in female elf form. And on top of that all, since I went around introducing myself as different names, all 4 of the other members refer to me as different names, and my character doesn't know who's tell him/her the truth. The rogue has tried to con her into believing that she's his wife, and that she loves him, and will do anything for him (including cook dinner/make him a sammich =P), the Barbarian has attempted to make moves on her, the warforged doesn't know how to react to this, as he has his own problems to deal with (he's a pacifist, but recently he's killed...by fate), and the wizard is enjoying the attention he's getting from her since she no longer trusts the rogue or the barbarian. My character doesn't wear anything except shoes, socks, boxers, and an undershirt, and only uses her chain shirt to simulate clothing on her body, but since she doesn't know that her chainshirt act like this, she can't simulate clothing either. She also doesn't realize she can cast magic or use the bardic abilities, so I'm pretty useless in a battle, and I'm pretty much a blank slate right now. Now, the question is, what should my character do? She really innocent right now, and doesn't quite understand what's going on, or why she's with these people. She doesn't know that she's the wheeler and dealer, and a hell of a con artist, nor does she know that she has the ability to fool anyone into believing her words. She believes that the wizard is the only one she can trust, and that she can sing like no one's business. I've talked with my DM, and he's basically said that I could A. attempt to reclaim my past or B. stay as is, and attempt a "different" personality. Now, I think there's more choices than that, and I'm trying to figure them out. Oh, and I've talk with my DM about my character unconciously starting to shape shift, as one example I was talking with him about was the fact that even though I'm an elf, I actually sleep and dream, and during one such dream, I dream I'm a different person, and when I wake up, my face and body structure is completely different (it'll be another front that I've had, a human female) and she won't realize till she's talked with everyone, and NO ONE recognizes her. He said he'd allow it, but I wouldn't know how to conciously shift back. Anyhoo, any ideas is appreciated, and I thank you in advance. If anything, I'd like to try and reclaim my changeling, cuz he's suppose to go to chameleon, but with this, I might be able to make him a chameleon under a different reason.
SnowbearK 04-29-05, 02:18 AM	To answer this, you must look at how changelings learn to shapeshift in the first place. Is it done instinctually? Does it have to be taught step by step? IIRC, Races of Eberron (or ECS) states that young changelings start by imitating familiar people (playmates & family). I would think it to be something of a racial instinct on some level, since it's not an acquired power (ie, they don't undergo some ritual, they're born with it). At some point, probably under stress, she's going to shift. If the situation starts really aggravating her, she might take on the form of the person who is the source of the aggravation (the rogue for instance).
Neely 04-29-05, 02:50 AM	I would go with the instinctive changing first. Like Snowbear said, situations that evoke stress on your character. Danger also puts stress on characters. She could change unwillingly to something that looks less easy prey, as innate defence mechanism. For the second step I have to think about the film Memento. Your character could then start to make notes of what she/he thinks is her real self and not forget it. This way she could start gathering her past.
Origami_Ninja 04-30-05, 04:33 PM	Hmm..interesting, I never really thought about that. I think I'll take the Memento idea, I like that a lot, and the stress induced shape changing. Thanks the both of you for your input, I'll post how this'll go over after on monday.
