I'm trying to create a D&D character, but I'm kinda lost, what are the general guidelines to create a character? I suppose it must be something like:

1.Choose gender
2.Choose race
3.Choose class

1) think about what you'd like to play. Character concept, maybe general personality traits(aggressive/passive, social/reclusive, righteous/apathetic...)
2) Roll stats.
3) Pick a class, put the stats where you want them to match class requirements, then role-playing requirements
4) fill in the aesthetic blanks(gender, looks, etc.)
5) pick feats & skills

Of course it doesn't have to be done in any particular order, it just is easier if you have a general idea of what you want before you start, then figure out what you can make with your numbers. The fine details I usually figure out while assigning attributes and skills.

Just think of a character concept, as if your character were part of a book or movie, then move on to the part of turning your idea into d20 rules (race, class, prestige class, etc).
Use your imagination, and have fun, then you will be able to make lots of good, memorable PCs. :invasion:
