| Lailoken Atreides01-07-05, 05:46 AM | Here's what is given: Stats: 18,18,16,14,12,10 3000 Gold Now, I want to play a Warlock and the group is playing with the Gestalt rules and I am struggling with what other class to take. On one hand I have always liked to play a "fighter-mage"-esque character, but how feasible is that with a Warlock. One the other hand, I would want a class that would augment Warlock's abilities. Beyond that, there are so many delicious feats to choose from, it is so hard to choose which one! Skills and such are in the bag and not a problem to pick...items how ever are not so easy, but shouldn't be a huge problem (mithril chain shirt almost goes without saying). We are playing the Eberron campaign setting. So here is the dilema...I appreciate any consideration you could offer me...thanks! |

| Vapthorne01-07-05, 08:22 AM | Another choice is a Warlock / Battle Sorcerer(UA); or Warlock / Favored Soul for a nice step in spellcasting power. Or, if you're warlock id fey-based, go Warlock / Druid. These are just some generic suggestions: if you can't decide a class up front then work on a character concept and see what combo springs to mind. At the very worst, you can go for a Warlock / Commoner gestalt. |
| spasheridan01-07-05, 01:10 PM | I say warlock / rouge. Sneak attack damage should boost that eldritch blast really well, and since you're limited to a single attack a round the sniping rules work well for you. You'll have skills out the wazoo, and some of the warlock inovations stack really nicely with the sneaking skills of a rouge. I would shy away form a battlemage, a warlock already has a decent blasting attack and the battlemage is all about the blasting. If you really want 2 spellcasting classes... sorcerer or cleric / druid. Hexblade seems like a good choice for a fighter / mage kind of PC. The key to character design is to choose a role to fill. What role do you want to play? |
| Megrim_Lord01-07-05, 03:15 PM | definitely Warlock / Rogue. Later on go Warlock / Assassin and pretty soon you will have one crazy powerful death machine |
| Lailoken Atreides01-07-05, 07:46 PM | I think that I have decided to go for a ranger/warlock, possible to go up to shawdowdancer/warlock. I am obsessed with the ultimate fighter-mage character, and I think that this falls into those guidelines...aside from picking fighter/warlock straight out. another I have seriously concidered is a sorcerer/warlock, leading into a dragon disciple/warlock. I guess it will come down to the flip of a coin. Thanks for the help! |
| Alchahest01-08-05, 06:30 PM | I'm a fan of Azhran's idea. with the hexblade's high BAB, excellent fort/will bonuses (mettle), in addition to DR from the warlock, Cha to saves from the hexblade, hexing and blasting as a way to disable enemy casters (reducing saves, then using something like noxious blast to nauseate them, or whatever, really dampens a caster's ability to sling stuff at you. and when they do, you're going to take half damage or less alot of the time. I'd go hexblade/warlock and focus in mage-killing. also; the hexblade's BAB is going to make your blasts that much more accurate. a gestalt hexblade/warlock is an extremely versatile, tough, effective character. |
| Platinumwarlock01-08-05, 11:10 PM | I would almost recommend gestalting with Barbarian and using a two-handed weapon. From there, you could take the Hideous Blow blast shape invocation and become, essentially, a one hit wonder. Pick only invocations that will buff yourself or your Hideous Blow, then go from there. You'd probably also be able to take the Armored Magic feats from Complete Arcane (can't remember the name of it), so you could wear either a breastplate, or even Mithril Full-Plate. Just an idea, I guess. |
