| Yoppen07-18-07, 01:11 AM | I'm bringin in a cleric to a high level game that's been going on for a long while... The game is set in Forgotten Realms, and I'm wanting to get a domain that is in the Complete Divine. The clerics current domains are Good and Protection, and I'm wanting to get the domain Community. Other then the 4th level ability of the Divine Disciple in the players guide to FR, is there any other way to get another domain? Like useing miricle? Thanks |
| Salla07-18-07, 01:14 AM | There's an Epic-Level Feat that does it, along with a bevy of prestige classes like Sacred Exorcist, Radiant Servant of Pelor, or Contemplative. |
| Azezel07-18-07, 08:54 AM | There are a boat load of PrCs in the Complete Divine (and I'll hazard a guaess, in the Complete Champion too) that grant a third domain. However, unless the PrC grants a specific named domain, then it only grants a domain already offered by the character's deity. If your deity does not already offer Comunity, you cannot have it. (Ask your DM to house-rule it that deity X offers Community). |
| DrMorganes07-18-07, 10:02 AM | That is the single largest issue with new supplements. Honestly? Talk to your DM about it. Rather than trying to add a 3rd domain to your cleric, ask if your DM will allow you to simply swap one of your existing domains for Community. This may require the use of the Retraining rules from PHB2 or a simple DM fiat. Personally, I'm generally pretty good about allowing ONE DM fiat character adjustment over the course of a a campaign to facilitate such things. I don't own PHB2 yet, so I can't really comment on Retraining. |
| Azezel07-18-07, 11:30 AM | The retraining rules in the PHB II are worthless. The idea boils down to 'Complete a half-arsed quest and then boom - you're an Elf' or whatever. Things like that are much better handled out of game. |

Class retraining/ feat retraining I think it works pretty well since those aren't blatant changes that everyone sees. |
| RainerNader07-18-07, 04:00 PM | There's also a spell in Complete Champion called "Substitute Domain" or something like that. Basically you just swap domains completely (spells available and granted power), and it lasts 1/day level. It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but it is a relatively simple workaround. |
| Pallin Rahl07-18-07, 08:42 PM | Hmmm... maybe I'm reading it wrong, but it sounds like this Cleric in question hasn't even been introduced to this campaign yet. Why not just switch-out one of his Domains for the one you want before introducing him to the campaign. ...hell, change the god you worship entirely. If he's not yet been introduced to this campaign, for all intents and purposes he doesn't "exist" yet. I mean, you know the Cleric existed from a prior campaign... ...but there's no law saying that you have to keep him 100% identical when introducing him as a "new character" in a completely different campaign. ...that is, assuming the Domain you want could be normally grated by the god you worship. Otherwise, there are PrCs and high-end feat options... |
| Ayra07-19-07, 02:46 AM | I'm having somewhat the same problem. My group consists out of 2 unseen seers, 1 swordsage (who barely ever shows up), 1 bard, 1 fighter and 1 warlock. As you can see they lack serious healing power so I had to make a healer. I wanted to make a good one since he'd have to to take care of 6 other party members. They even bought me a special carriage for traveling so I can brew potions while we walk :) Anyway, the deal is that I took cleric 6 / radiant servant of pelor 10 / contemplative 4. I saw these classes thrown around and I like them most, aside from that a somewhat similar build like this already exists if I'm not mistaken. The radiant servant of pelor gets some really really nice healing things that greatly help healing my party, but as you can see it's limited to worshiping Pelor. Now there's no real problem with Pelor, except that the only domains he grants are Healing, Sun, Strength and Good. I would much rather make use of some other domains if that were possible. The spell to switch domains sounds reasonable, but finding something permanent would be even better. I'm still only 3 levels into cleric as we speak, so a lot on my build can still change. Any tips are of course welcome, as I'm sure they might also help the OP :) |
| Lana "Silvertongue"07-19-07, 12:09 PM | Clerics of dieties are limited by the domain spells offered by their diety. In non-faerun settings, the only other option this has is worshiping an ideal. This cost is the loss of viable prestige classes. The reason is for balancing. Smorseborging multiple domains tends to lead to CODzilla characters preCOD feats. My reccomendation is to look through Complete Champion, I would be inclined to to let Pelorites alter course under petition of becoming Shadowstrikers (Complete Champion 109) to add a single domain gained in an another prestige class only after completing the Shadowstriker prestige class. [One level dips never flew in my games, minimum levels to be taken in a single class must be three or half rounded up for {smaller prestige classes} whichever is lower, not consecutively.... but before I would allow another class to be taken.] Prestige classes; Contemplative on page 31 of Complete Divine gives you access to two more domains, but the domain must be attached to your diety already and you still only get to choose 1 spells per level from all your domains. Faerun doesn't allow ideal worshiping. From my reading of the poster, it sounds like the character hasn't been introduced yet. Community domain is one that I would say naturally falls to Yondalla or any of the "mother of the race" dieties. [Read the fluff text in Faith and Pantheons, it will mention it] If your willing to retool your character to follow those deities, more power to you. "Like useing miricle?" Guess I should round out the post by looking at this one. As a DM I would not allow it. Its essentially a free feat. I am also pretty sure Miricle doesn't allow it. Domains have to be aquired through classes/prestige classes. You could multiclass into a class that also gives you new domains but they must still be attached to the same diety as your old one. Pelor: Complete Divine added Competition domain (138) and Glory Domain (139). |
| StMage07-19-07, 12:16 PM | If you can only use core D&D and FR books this option does not work. There is a feat in one of the 3rd party books called Additional Domain, I think you need 5-8 ranks in Know. religion though, and it has to be a domain sanctioned by your god! |
| Lana "Silvertongue"07-19-07, 12:17 PM | The origional poster may want to post what the diety is the faerun character worships. "If you can only use core D&D and FR books this option does not work." I am pretty sure this isn't an issue as the domain he wants is in Complete Divine. Plus if it was Core and FR only, 3rd party options are also out. Though I am interested in where this feat is? |
| StMage07-20-07, 11:12 AM | The feat is from Ultimate Feats by Mongoose Publishing. I think it might be a 3.0 book, I've had it for a while, but most things can be easily converted over. |
| Yoppen07-22-07, 02:38 AM | Thanks for all the posts. The god that my cleric worships is Chauntea. She's the god that guided the first mortal wanderers to give up gathering for the stability of farming. Seems to me that she'd support community. |
